Official 2017 Knicks Offseason thread, Phil Jackson gone

LMAO @ us only defending against the triangle in practice, when we're the only team in the league still running it.

Amazing.

We'd probably be beast on defense if we played ourselves every game tho.

Feels like the whole league has evolved and uses advanced stats, modern offenses, and moneyball stuff while we're stuck in the Stone Age

before phil got here we barely missed the playoffs with woodson and he got fired...but before that we made the playoffs 3 years in a row... our record got really bad like historically bad once phil got here... but at least he got KP

Hornacek wants Kristaps Porzingis to get the ball more

New York Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek said his team is missing opportunities to get the ball to Kristaps Porzingis.

"They've got to do a better job of getting him the ball when he's got a mismatch," Hornacek said after the Knicks fell to 1-3 following a 19-point loss to the Houston Rockets on Wednesday. "There were several times where he's in the area on a smaller guy and we're not necessarily looking for him. We're looking for the next thing. We've got to find that mismatch, throw it up there, let him gather the ball and make a play on that."

Porzingis missed all four of his field goal attempts on Wednesday and was held without a field goal for just the second time in his 76-game career.

"They were switching, a lot of times he had a 6-5, 6-6 guy on him, we have to take advantage of that and just didn't see it," Hornacek said.

Some around the NBA believe that Porzingis' shots and touches may decrease in his second season because he's sharing the floor with new Knicks point guard Derrick Rose.

Rose and Carmelo Anthony are players who use a high percentage of their teams plays when on the floor. Thus far this season, Porzingis is averaging 14.5 points per game on 11.5 shots. Last season, he averaged 14.3 points on 12.3 shots. So there isn't a huge discrepancy, but the Knicks are struggling on both ends of the floor and would benefit from getting Porzingis some easier shots.

In addition to failing to take advantage of Porzingis' mismatches, the Knicks also struggled to defend on Wednesday. They allowed Houston to shoot 47 percent from the field and score 66 points in the first half. Defense has been an issue for the club early in the season.

In Tuesday's loss to the Pistons, New York allowed Detroit to ring up 64 first-half points. In all, Knicks opponents have scored 30 points or more in eight of 16 quarters, and New York has yet to hold a team under 100 points.

"We just have to build better habits and be better on our one on one defense," Joakim Noah said. "Just being on a string, being all together, understanding the game plan and taking pride in the defense."

Added Rose: "If we don't come out and play defense we're going to keep getting smacked like this."

I'm patiently waiting till we've played 20 games to pass judgement on this team. Just like in any sport, you can get a good sense of what the team is like after 1/4th of the season.

It probably will 20-25 games until we get the chemistry we need but I hope we don't fal too far behind in the standings during that time.

You don't need 20 games to see this team isn't good.

Melo is old and you can already start to see his decline.

Derrick Rose is an inefficient volume scorer who doesn't spread the ball around. Notice how much better his former team looks without him this year.

Noah has been run into the ground and simply isn't the same guy anymore.

Courtney Lee is Courtney Lee. A solid player but not a needle mover.

This team just isn't good. Headed toward 28 wins imo. Would be smart to blow it up and try getting some young pieces for Melo to build around KP but that will never happen. We'd rather try getting the 8th seed which won't happen either.

It's not hate.

This team isn't going anywhere.

He's our only moveable asset. If we are bad, does he really want to go three years without being in the playoffs? I doubt it. He'll think about the no trade clause and let it rock if he can go somewhere that can be decent.

Boston/Washington/Detroit, there are certain teams that would give us real assets to get Melo and we should listen and discuss it with him.

He's 32, doesn't play anyyyy D anymore and doesn't make his teammates better. He's not a #1 guy anymore.

He's still a very good player but you never really wanted him running your offense when he was in his prime and now that he's old you certainly don't want too.

Melo didn't decline going to Chicago to win a chip in NY. He did it to not win a chip while being in NY. U smell me famb?

Dude knows he won't win a title, his goal now is to build his brand and do what he can to deflect blame off himself like not defend in order to pad his stats and get highlight jump shots.

Our organization and star player are relics and don't fit in the modern NBA

Last night was one of those games where nothing went right, unfortunately it was the 3rd game of the season after 2 consecutive bad seasons. There's always gonna be nights like that regardless of who you are as a team, hell even LA blew out GSW once last year.
