Official 2017 Knicks Offseason thread, Phil Jackson gone

I actually agree with a lot of worldbefree's ideas.

I would LOVE to throw in the towel one more year for Markelle Fultz but we're not in position to do so. Also, there's no guarantee we'd even get #1 overall.

Who wouldn't love Markelle Fultz ? We all would but the rationale just isn't there. "Hey fellas go out there and lose games on purpose just to see if we can get the #1 pick". Hail nah :lol

Which is another reason why its time KP plays the 5. It'll hide his defensive deficiencies.

No it won't. Because then they'll just run a pick and roll with whoever he's guarding.

IDK if you've noticed this, but teams purposely attach us with pick and rolls ALL THE TIME. It's been this way since the Woodson era. For some reason or another, we don't know how to defend against a simple pick and roll and teams purposely attack us with it all game long.

KP needs to learn how to defend it if we ever want to get anywhere.

^ yep and even though we had like 4-5 new coaches the last decade the Pick and roll is impossible to defend with this team :lol

I think I'm at the point where I think Phil sucks though. He's just not this genius Zen master that was sold to us. He understands the game so he will get some things right, but he's not the change we sought. I'll be surprised if we get to the ECF under him.

Been very disappointed with KP's awareness of who's he's guarding also. Like he doesn't read the scouting report or do his homework on bigs that can shoot the 3. He doesn't close out hard enough on the 3 or he's just not pressuring the shooter at all. Frye hit at least 2 threes I think just cause he saw KP backing off like he couldn't shoot.

I think KP just isn't strong and athletic enough yet too. It's one thing to be agile for your size, it's another to have a strong core and body to clamp down on defense while scoring 20+. I'm not really expecting defense like that from him without another summer. Dude doesn't have a strong+athletic enough build.

KP is pretty slow. I'm surprised he gets to the basket as much as he does, actually. On those pick and pops when he gets the ball but a quick guy switches on to him, he pretty much has to give the ball back.

On defense, he will never be quick enough to close hard. He will always have trouble guarding the perimeter.

Defenses have been loving putting small guys on KP on those pick and pops lately. They will need to adjust by posting him up or maybe make him roll instead of popping.

I think the problem is we have KP moving around on the perimeter too much on defense.

Yes he can guard opposing guards in a pinch, yes he's going to have to close out on all these new stretch big men behind the arch, hyes he moves like a wing on offense...but he's still a 7'3" center.

He's being asked to do a little bit too much and it's reducing his defensive efficiency. Has his racking up fouls, instead of blocks in the post.

Is this still the media influencing the fans ?

Phil and his ******* mouth is a problem and would be fired if he was anywhere else.

This team is actually doing well and is the midst of it he wants to take unnecessary shots at Melo and other players

It's just pointless and annoying as ****.
