The max is higher than his cap hold. So why screw yourself out of $4-5 million in cap space by extending him early.

And because they have RFA on him. They can play the wait game.

It has nothing to do with wanting to or not wanting to pay him. They don’t have incentive financially to give him any deal until the offseason and DLo has no incentive to agree to a smaller contract than his cap hold
