I’m moving a little bit on this trade. Swanson and the other guy are not pieces at all for us going forward. The Thompson dude is a 24 year old catcher in A Ball.
Sheffield hurts a lot. But only because I like the kid and he’s a lefty. It’s great to have homegrown guys especially at pitcher. I know we traded for him but he worked his way up through the minors. That’s what hurts the most is that he was grinding his way up.
Sheffield has # 2 stuff, which is what Paxton is. So we’re looking for Sheffield in a couple years to be what Paxton is now. Also Paxton is arbitration eligible for a couple years so that helps.
Now to completely swing me Cash has to
1. Sign Corbin
2. Sign Happ or another good veteran for the rotation
3. I really want a quality lefty in our farm system, however Cash needs to do it, he needs to do it.

-A weak 1 (Sevy... Inconsistency makes him a weak 1)
-A strong 2 (Tanaka)
-A good 2 (Paxton)
-A really good 5 (CC)

When I said it, I was partially joking. But say we don’t get or even chase Harper or Machado. I really think a Cano for Ellsbury swap works for us and the Mariners.
(Both guys would need to agree to it because they both have no trade clauses)
-Cano comes home and finishes his career here.
-Ellsbury goes home to the Pacific North West
-Use a couple mid level prospects to get Mariners to eat 1 years worth of Cano. Would save them $50mil overall and they can get out of ($47.3mil left in Ellsbury + $23mil of Cano. Cano is $120mil). Also they get rid of the deal much sooner 2021 rather than 2023 with Cano
-Cano plays 2B while Didi is out. Then move Stanton to LF and Cano to DH. With a game a week at 2B or 1B
In 44 away games in 2018, Cano was .320/.394/.491
Cano has been healthy his entire career. And in Yankee stadium, I think he pulls off a 30 2B, 30 HR season while hitting .280 or better for a couple years.

Cano. But that would just be to get him some more games and open up DH more throughout the season for other guys.
Saves them $50-60mil, even if they kicked us $20mil. Also they do have a spot for him if he can play. Even if it’s a 4th OF. We don’t even have that to offer
Also could help them with some mid level prospects.

I don’t think it’s a bad idea at all. We have to pay $47mil for Ellsbury anyway. We’re not going to find another out. If we can get Mariners to take $20-25mil on Cano’s $120mil left, it’s not a bad deal at all if need be throw them some low prospects their way that are too old and not far enough along to ever mean much.
The trade is basically 3 years of paying Cano if you really look at it. I mean we are not going to use Ellsbury at all anyway
Cano in 80 games hit .007 below his career average. Was higher on OBP. 10 Homeruns shows he probably could still hit 25 at Yankee stadium.
He has not been injured in his career. Since 2007, his lowest game total was 150 games. He was suspended for 80 games, played 80 out of 82.
He can play half the year at 2B. Move Torres to SS while Didi is out.
Then when Didi comes back Cano, Stanton in LF. Cano at DH. And when needed, Cano can play all 4 positions on a 1 game basis to give Voit, Torres, Didi and Andujar a rest.

Mets wanted to trade Jay Bruce for Cano + Diaz or Haniger. Also Mets asked Mariners to eat $10mil off the deal each year.
