Are they ever readable?
And I say this as a Michigan fan.
Even the boards that entertaining like TD and BOL are 90% terrible.
Oh it's a cesspool right now. I got bored/irritated at work so I engaged for a while before I realized that 95% of the board is just trolls. I clicked on a poster's history and he only posts following losses. 40+ posts the week following a loss, 2-3 the week following a win. "is Clay the worst SC coach ever" is a hot upvoted thread right now. And "Could we beat UC Davis considering they're going to outscore us vs. Stanford" is another favorite.
Insightful posts like this one actually breaking down the game get lost in the muck:
- Stanford was fantastic on the OL in terms of execution, with only two clear mental mistakes the entire game. They had a decent amount of physical beats, particularly from Gustin, but there were very few unforced errors.
- USC DL was dominant on the interior, and generally played great sideline to sideline. On the one long run by Love, Stanford used a 2x2 blocking scheme on the end and ran a very creative set of twists. Really smart play design, perfect execution. Other than that, though, Clancy had Stanford's number.
- USC didn't have any sacks, but it did have a lot of tackles for loss and incompletions that were the result of hits on the QB.
- Alongside Porter, Biggie and Rector also had very good games
- On the offensive side of the ball, the OL was inconsistent, often soft, and easily tricked. There were some astounding physical beats, like Toa and Vorhees somehow letting a double teamed guy through, but most of the mistakes were mental. Stanford used the same delayed stunts and blitzes over and over and it kept fooling the interior OL.
- Daniels did a lot of great things on extending the plays. He also kept throwing off his back shoulder. Not a good game, but the flashes are absolutely there for him to be a dominant guy.
- A few bad play calls, but probably 90% of the offensive issues stemmed from the OL or Daniels. Bad blocking, holding onto the ball too long, staring down the receivers, and not stepping into the throws were almost always the cause of the stalled drives.
-Sophomore OL had a lot of physical beats. They need to get better in a hurry. Even Edoga had some uncharacteristically bad play
- The RG spot should be an open competition. Vorhees just did not play well enough. Tyler Petite is a blocking liability.
- Jackson clearly has the tools to be a dominant LT but he needs a lot of coaching because he lost some battles to smaller players because of technique.
-Bottom line: this OL needs a lot more hitting and coaching to be any good. And in a hurry. Pretty good chance Calloway costs Clay his job, though who knows how this OL would look if they actually practiced the way they claim they want to play.
