OFFICIAL 2019 COLLEGE FOOTBALL OFFSEASON THREAD

Are they ever readable?

And I say this as a Michigan fan.

Even the boards that entertaining like TD and BOL are 90% terrible.

Oh it's a cesspool right now. I got bored/irritated at work so I engaged for a while before I realized that 95% of the board is just trolls. I clicked on a poster's history and he only posts following losses. 40+ posts the week following a loss, 2-3 the week following a win. "is Clay the worst SC coach ever" is a hot upvoted thread right now. And "Could we beat UC Davis considering they're going to outscore us vs. Stanford" is another favorite.

Insightful posts like this one actually breaking down the game get lost in the muck:

- Stanford was fantastic on the OL in terms of execution, with only two clear mental mistakes the entire game. They had a decent amount of physical beats, particularly from Gustin, but there were very few unforced errors.
- USC DL was dominant on the interior, and generally played great sideline to sideline. On the one long run by Love, Stanford used a 2x2 blocking scheme on the end and ran a very creative set of twists. Really smart play design, perfect execution. Other than that, though, Clancy had Stanford's number.
- USC didn't have any sacks, but it did have a lot of tackles for loss and incompletions that were the result of hits on the QB.
- Alongside Porter, Biggie and Rector also had very good games
- On the offensive side of the ball, the OL was inconsistent, often soft, and easily tricked. There were some astounding physical beats, like Toa and Vorhees somehow letting a double teamed guy through, but most of the mistakes were mental. Stanford used the same delayed stunts and blitzes over and over and it kept fooling the interior OL.
- Daniels did a lot of great things on extending the plays. He also kept throwing off his back shoulder. Not a good game, but the flashes are absolutely there for him to be a dominant guy.
- A few bad play calls, but probably 90% of the offensive issues stemmed from the OL or Daniels. Bad blocking, holding onto the ball too long, staring down the receivers, and not stepping into the throws were almost always the cause of the stalled drives.
-Sophomore OL had a lot of physical beats. They need to get better in a hurry. Even Edoga had some uncharacteristically bad play
- The RG spot should be an open competition. Vorhees just did not play well enough. Tyler Petite is a blocking liability.
- Jackson clearly has the tools to be a dominant LT but he needs a lot of coaching because he lost some battles to smaller players because of technique.
-Bottom line: this OL needs a lot more hitting and coaching to be any good. And in a hurry. Pretty good chance Calloway costs Clay his job, though who knows how this OL would look if they actually practiced the way they claim they want to play.

I guess he can’t be fired for being a hypocrite, but the holy than thou image, then calling an escort of all the “sinful” things you could do, really rubs wrong.

Don’t care if you do it, even though I’m sure his wife cares a great deal, but don’t potray yourself as a saint and hide behind bible verses. I don’t even attend church and have a led a more pure life than Hugh lol.

Hell, if he wants to pay players, he should just find a job in the League. At least it’s legal there and he won’t have to worrry about sin lol

I think he’s talking about the #Metoo stuff.

Even if there is a tinge of truth in his statement (it’s a joke to compare him to Briles), all he literally has to do is say he made a mistake, hopes to get another chance, and keep it moving from there.

The victims act is going to win no one over.

He's coming across as incredibly unlikeable and out of touch. He's handled things very poorly since leaving Ole Miss. Just apologize and move on, stop blaming others for the spot you're in. His holier than though act at Ole Miss coupled with his victim act now make him unhireable.

After the first pass.

Why is Mike Farrell allowed access anywhere? This is the same dude that pulled that Rosen **** before the draft and wrote hit pieces on all the other QBs and admitted the Rivals rankings are biased.

Im not on Rivals so I’ll have to google it all later but he was on Rosen’s junk hard almost like his agents were paying him. He was apologizing to Rosen for everyone else not seeing he was the greatest QB in the country/maybe ever while saying all the other QBs except maybe Baker would be busts:

On Josh Allen:
“I see him as a bust long-term. I changed my opinion on him a little bit because I get caught up with his arm strength and the way he can sling the ball around and how well he moves as a big guy. When you watch him against nobody, when you watch him in all-star games, when you look at him doing routes-on-air, he looks great.

“I still go back to those FBS games and he didn’t look good. Completion percentage is a problem for me. Kiper is just being stubborn. He picked his guy and he’s not going to waver off him. That’s how a lot of people get. Maybe I’m being stubborn and I picked against the guy, but I just don’t believe in him.”

So questions:

1. Is the Big10 west bad except for Wisconsin and Iowa? Losing to EMU? Pee-eww.

2. Why is Jalen Hurts letting Saban burn his redshirt against Sunbelt teams?

He didn't burn his redshirt

He gets 4 games this season. If they're playing him against Arkansas State in a blowout instead of saving him for say Miss St. or Auburn, it's safe to say they're not planning to redshirt him this year, meaning he'll have 1 year of eligibility left.

If he wants to redshirt still he'll redshirt. If he wants to play he'll play, its up to him. Doubt he can go to Saban and say na I'm not playing this game save me till the big ones and Saban complies.

That EMU game wasn’t really an upset. Didn’t look at the updated S&P+ rankings but last week before the game Purdue and EMU were separated by one spot at around 60 IIRC.

Other than that it’s hard to know what to make of NW since Thorson still isn’t really healthy yet. Nebraska looks how anyone who actually watched them last year expected them to look.

Jalen's a fool for letting himself get suckered into this ********.

If he burns a year of development and snaps playing second fiddle...

at the end of the day, Hurts has zero shot at making the league. Why not leave and go somewhere and play your last moments of football. Its not like that Bama degree is anything to stick around for.

True and he's already won a national title so it's not like he hasn't experienced that already. We don't know the full story though. It's hard to say goodbye to your teammates, he might feel like he's quitting on the team. Getting his degree might be a big deal to him.
