Gotta agree. That's like the Mets signing Larry or Burrell.

Which is why I give Andy a bit of credit for saying he never considered signing w/Boston when he went to Houston. Said he just couldn't do it. Yanks definitely need to fall back in that regard. Stop signing these guys that KILL your team as an opponent. That "if you can't beat him, sign him" mentality is basura.

Wow, some of these people saying what the Yankees should do haven't touched the Yankees season thread this entire year.

Okay, well I have a few suggestions on what I'd like done.

1. I'd like to get Lee, even with CC money.

2. I don't want Crawford because I see him losing his speed 2-3 years down the line, as well as his gold glove defense. So what's the point of keeping that when we have a much cheaper version in Gardner there anyway. Plus, lets face it we need to move Jeter to LF eventually. Sure Crawford has more power and is a better hitter, but he won't be getting those infield hits anymore very soon, and a ~15 HR average isn't all that impressive anyway.

3. Trade Montero because I think we can get something great in return. Romine is the better long-term option because he's a worst hitter sure, but he can handle a pitching staff which is what we need. We need the DH spot for our aging players and 1B is occupied by the best defensive 1B in the majors for a few more years.

4. Get a reliever. Now Mo has 2-3 years left max. I'm a fan of Rafael Soriano personally and would love to sign him to a deal where he's the setup guy now and just learn from Mo more about pitching while he's still around. Sure he'll be expensive, but we need to be realistic that Mo can go down with an injury at any time and might never come back. Or he could just lose his stuff one day.

5. Resign Pettite if we can. He's a gamer and I'd really love to see him stay long enough to get 300. He pitched well this year anyway.

6. I'm not down on AJ yet. He just needs a sports psychiatrist or something. Dude has the stuff, he just isn't all there mentally. And lets not forget, he pitched well for us during the 09 run.

7. Look for a great SS prospect for the future now!!

Edit:

And yes I'd resign Kerry Wood if we could.  He pitched great for us, and hey he owes us, the pitching coach fixed his delivery!

Oh, and as others said, trade Joba and get some value for him at least.  We destroyed him by making him a SP when he never had the stuff anyway.  He is shot IMO because his confidence is non-existent.

I don't know if Hanley is the best long term solution anyway. The reason is that his defense isn't that great, even though it is greatly improved. His character is off, remember the incident with his coach where Freddy Gonzalez got fired?

I mean if I had to trade for one of these young SS it would be Tulo hands down.

Some of you need to step away from the monitor and leave baseball alone for a couple weeks because some of the **#@ you're saying is insane at the very least.  We took an injury ravaged team to the ALCS and got outplayed.  Relax.

First things first, Girardi needs to be dumped immediately.  His in game handling of the bullpen and consistent mismanaging of games led to our downfall.  Game 6 should be the final straw.  Robertson struggled all series and you bring him in to face Cruz, it's the final game why not bring in Wood or CC?  If you're going to defer to Tony Pena for every decision, why do we pay you the big bucks.  Also, need to make sure no one steals away Long or Eiland.

At catcher, it's time to bring up Montero.  He's done all he needs to do in the minors.  Split time with him and Posada and have the other DH.  Montero has made enough strides at catcher this season where he's actually better than Posada defensively.  That bat is no joke either.

We're good at first base, we just need Tex to not start off as slow as he has been the last two years.  Mike Sweeney would be a good bat and a decent defensive replacement on Tex's days off.

Second base we're great.  Hopefully Cano doesn't have a lackluster year.

Shortstop is gonna be tricky.  I'm all for keeping Jeter and paying him whatever we can.  But we need to get it through his head that a position change may be forthcoming.  His defense is atrocious and it shows.  His bat needs to wake up next year as well.

Third base we're good, A-Rod just needs to stay healthy.  I'd like a Melvin Mora or Chad Tracy in the event he's out for a significant amount of time again.

It gets complicated in the outfield.  I love Gardner.  His contract is good as well and he won't be demanding something big in the future.  But the bat cost us in the playoffs.  I'm on the fence about Crawford.  Yes, he's an excellent LF and a great power threat especially in Yankee Stadium.  But the years and money wouldn't make sense to me.  All the Mets fault for giving Bay 4 years/$66 million.  Crawford is gonna want at least 5 years/$100 million.  A big NO to Jayson Werth.  You're going to give a right handed power hitter who hits in a notoriously right handed friendly park (also not a great fielder) $100 million to hit in a bad RH power park in the Bronx.  We can't get rid of Swish.  Our chemistry goes out the window with him.  Curtis is a stellar CF.

I'd let Kearns and Berkman both walk.  I'd take a combination of Hawpe/Hinske/Stairs/Thames as backup OF'ers.

We're not getting rid of Burnett so he's here to stay.  I'd resign Pettitte if he wants to come back.  CC, Andy, AJ, Hughes and either take a chance on Duchsherer or Snell.  Maybe even a Sheets or Chris Young.

Our bullpen needs to get lefties.  Logan struggled in the postseason.  Joba needs to be the 7th inning guy along with Robertson.  Resign Mo and Wood of course.  Make a strong push for Arthur Rhodes or Matt Thornton.

Trust me when I say, you do not want Hanley. He's a pain in the #!# who gets away with things because he's Hanley Ramirez playing for the Florida Marlins.

dI don't want to overpay for Werth or Crawford. I have no problem with Gardner, he struggled in the post season, but hey he was pretty damn good for the regular season.

Pay whatever for Lee and work on the bullpen

Bring Montero up

I'm not really sure of Gardner's BA, but if he can hit a consistent .280-.285 and learn how to bunt well he could be very valuable. Some people in here are acting like it's the end of the world.

The Yankees are an automatic 95 win team, barring any major injuries and even with the ones you guys had, they still managed to get to the ALCS. I think the layoff you guys had an impact, personally.
EDIT:

As far as Jeter is concerned, didn't he hit like .320 or .330 in 2009? Maybe he just had a down year? The man still has wheels.
