Official New York Yankees Offseason Thread

Yea he did but you can't really discount age taking a toll on him when he's getting up there in it. Have to be cautious either way.

I will say that it will be a goddamn travesty if he signs with another team. Yankees have always shown that they're more about production than loyalty with stars start with Bernie and you can go all the way back to Ruth on that part...

First things first, Girardi needs to be dumped immediately.  His in game handling of the bullpen and consistent mismanaging of games led to our downfall.  Game 6 should be the final straw.  Robertson struggled all series and you bring him in to face Cruz, it's the final game why not bring in Wood or CC?  If you're going to defer to Tony Pena for every decision, why do we pay you the big bucks.  Also, need to make sure no one steals away Long or Eiland.

At catcher, it's time to bring up Montero.  He's done all he needs to do in the minors.  Split time with him and Posada and have the other DH.  Montero has made enough strides at catcher this season where he's actually better than Posada defensively.  That bat is no joke either.

We're good at first base, we just need Tex to not start off as slow as he has been the last two years.  Mike Sweeney would be a good bat and a decent defensive replacement on Tex's days off.

Second base we're great.  Hopefully Cano doesn't have a lackluster year.

Shortstop is gonna be tricky.  I'm all for keeping Jeter and paying him whatever we can.  But we need to get it through his head that a position change may be forthcoming.  His defense is atrocious and it shows.  His bat needs to wake up next year as well.

Third base we're good, A-Rod just needs to stay healthy.  I'd like a Melvin Mora or Chad Tracy in the event he's out for a significant amount of time again.

It gets complicated in the outfield.  I love Gardner.  His contract is good as well and he won't be demanding something big in the future.  But the bat cost us in the playoffs.  I'm on the fence about Crawford.  Yes, he's an excellent LF and a great power threat especially in Yankee Stadium.  But the years and money wouldn't make sense to me.  All the Mets fault for giving Bay 4 years/$66 million.  Crawford is gonna want at least 5 years/$100 million.  A big NO to Jayson Werth.  You're going to give a right handed power hitter who hits in a notoriously right handed friendly park (also not a great fielder) $100 million to hit in a bad RH power park in the Bronx.  We can't get rid of Swish.  Our chemistry goes out the window with him.  Curtis is a stellar CF.

I'd let Kearns and Berkman both walk.  I'd take a combination of Hawpe/Hinske/Stairs/Thames as backup OF'ers.

We're not getting rid of Burnett so he's here to stay.  I'd resign Pettitte if he wants to come back.  CC, Andy, AJ, Hughes and either take a chance on Duchsherer or Snell.  Maybe even a Sheets or Chris Young.

Our bullpen needs to get lefties.  Logan struggled in the postseason.  Joba needs to be the 7th inning guy along with Robertson.  Resign Mo and Wood of course.  Make a strong push for Arthur Rhodes or Matt Thornton.
THIS and the rest ...

Ok so apparently letting Eiland go was 100% Cashman's doing.

Said the reasons were "his" and "personal"

I have to assume it has something to do with his leave of absence he took earlier in the year, either way he will be sorely missed.

Idk how you guys feel but it seems like Girardi will be coming back, based on what Cash said today. I for one wouldn't have minded to see him let go...the way he handled the season towards the end of the year was pitiful.

Who will be the next pitching coach?

and Cash said they will "work something out" with Jeter.

Big mistake letting him go. Let's see who they go after. I hate the fact that Girardi may be back next season. He's the downfall of this entire team.

But on the real imo, y'all still have a nice two year window for a chip if y'all do the following:
1. Get Lee, no matter the price.  CC is great but has never been a guy I've ever trusted in the Post-Season.  If he's your number 2 though your great.
2. Make sure Andy doesn't retire.  Throw how ever much is neccesary.
3. I understand for all the Yankee nostalgia ##$@%+%* you have to sign Jeter so I guess that's whatever
ohwell.gif
.
4. Victor Martinez is a free agent, Posada can go or stay and platoon.
Really, hitting wise your team all depends on this A-Rod.  Dude is getting up there in age but def isn't done.  Y'all need to make sure he gets back to full health and can perform cause if he hits it changes the face of your team.  When he doesn't, the same things happens which did this year.

Victor Martinez is one of the worst defensive catchers in the league and is moving to first base soon. Pass on him 10 times out of 10. We don't need to sign another catcher with Montero and Romine ready to take the baton. Especially a guy who is even worse at throwing out baserunners, can't field pitches in the dirt and doesn't hit well situationally or with RISP.

PASS.

Bring back Andy but at a price. Elbow issues never disappear.

Did I actually read in the paper yesterday that A-Rod is under contract through 2017?

I'm sorry but..
