Official NT dad thread: can the dads get love

anyone have issues giving kids antibiotics?

my toddler has an infected lymph node behind her ear and is supposed to take over 13ml of antibiotics twice daily for 10 days

acetaminophen or ibuprofen she does fine with but the dosage for those are only 7.5ml and they are not chalky like the antibiotic she has

it's cherry flavored and we went back to the pharmacist to have them flavor it with grape but she still wasn't having it...tried to put it in a glass of grape juice this morning and didn't tell her there was medicine but no dice

tried to force her to take it last night and she vomited

that's a tough one man. my son hated taking them up until he turned 4 and i used to bribe him with a juice reward if he took his meds (he rarely gets to drink anything sugary). i've heard of parents mixing it in with ice cream. not even sure if that's appropriate though.

Try mixing it with milk?

Idk if it still works but if you can hold em down and get the medicine in their mouths you can blow hard on their face and that often triggers some kids to swallow.

Also can try getting a popscicle tray and freezing it in some juice

Baby girl's first day going to daycare today. Wife was fortunate enough to be able to bring her to work for the first 4 months. She had some separation anxiety lol. We got a couple pics today of my daughter and she's all smiles :)

Easiest for me is to mix it in a lil milk. Make it like a shot glass amount

If that doesn’t work then u gotta take the plastic syringe that comes with the medicine, put it in the back of their mouth where their back teeth would be, and let gravity do the rest. Lol. Goes right down.

My son would spit out his medicine. Lol. So I had to resort to drastic measures.

Up until about prob 6 months ago my sis n law has to pin down her 5 year old to make him take amoxicillin when he has to take it. Its chalk like you describe, this last time they added a cherry flavor and he was less resistant but still had to pin him.

She ended up making a game out out of it and in the end he was wanting her to pin him down to so it. Doesnt work for all but at first it was just pin him down and pretty much make him to take it a lil at a time lol

my kid is 4 now

don't recall her having to take antibiotics in the past...never had ear infections or anything

she was asking for ice cream medicine so maybe i will get some vanilla ice cream and mix it if nothing else works

My girls are growing up too fast man. I can't imagine a life without them.

Forgive me while I spam the thread with pics. LOL

My son at 8 months just started crawling. I never noticed how much stuff we have to move and block until now. He was walking in those walker toy things for a month but those contraptions keep his hands out of reach. It's a good workout following him lol

Had a convo with my old lady bout our kids when they were babies. Youngest out of five turned 5 this past weekend. She brought up that with her first pregnancy, the WIC lady told her that a baby cannot die of crying. If the baby cry’s after you fed and nourished it, let it cry. Do not hurt your baby.
That lady and her words always stuck with her.

that's what we did Monday night and what I did this morning...she just chokes on it and spits out as much as she can...she ended up getting it on her hair which feels like straw now

didn't have enough time to wash her hair properly so I couldn't get all of it out

they prescribed a new medicine which the dosage is 9.8 ml instead of 13 ml like the last

mixed it with a vanilla frosty and she took it last night

first tried mixing with milk this morning and telling her it's strawberry milk

added in a lot of hershey syrup which she initially refused but she finally took it (most of it at least) after the whole spit up incident with the syringe this morning

Good luck with all that...sick kids are heartbreaking even if it's a little cold...

Y'all have any trouble with picky eaters...my 4 year old has a pretty selective eating habit...my wife was trying to convince me to take him to food therapy...don't really want to do that but don't know any other options...

yeah... my 4 year old eats like a bird sometimes and is a grazer.

right now all she wants is starch.... rice, noodles, bread.... no kinda protein. gotta hide it in there somewhere......

food therapy?!! :lol
my son isn’t a super picky eater but he’s very particular. he’ll eat raw fish but he hates tuna sandwich. he’ll eat grilled steak but refuses to eat a hamburger patty. i make his breakfast and lunch everyday so it can be challenging at times.

we like to indulge my son in certain things. right now he’s super curious about different fruits so we go to the market every few days and let him choose some to try. some of the winners have been dragonfruit, figs, mangosteen, cotton candy grapes and a few others. he was indifferent about pomegranate, coconut and guava. we have sapodillas and some kinda fancy pineapple at home in the fridge.
