You can’t beat an implacable right-wing party by pointing out their hypocrisy, taking the high road or appealing to shared history or national identity or history.
Indeed.
The risk of going down that path is getting locked into the kind of politics that we are currently witnessing in many African countries, where destabilizing violence becomes a permanent variable in the equation of regime change (Mali just had its second coup in 9 months).

Socialism provides answers to a lot of socioeconomic issues that the US has, but I don't know how it can delegitimize/drown out the calls for political violence coming from the far right.

I just have a hard time imagining a long-term, peaceful solution that doesn't require the break-up of the permanent Dem/Rep coalitions and the creation of a true multi-party legislative body.
