Apparently the charge depended on whether the barrel of the gun was under a certain length or not. The judge told the prosecution he'd dismiss the charge depending on the length of the barrel.
The prosecuton answered that it wasn't a short barreled rifle and then he dismissed the charge.

That's the gist of laws in this country: implement rules with enough loopholes that the people who are not supposed to be subjected to the law by social convention are exempt from it, while those who are conventionally painted as criminals bear the full brunt of it.

They had a legal expert on the radio say the same thing about this trial: for the jury, it's not going to be about whether Rittenhouse killed those two people, it's about whether it was reasonable to do so. So, if you're a blue line clown who "would've gone there if it weren't for the arthritis" and you're sitting on the jury, Kyle's your guy, and you're gonna make sure he walks.

After further review, it seems the judge was right on the gun charge decision.

We need to be careful with this comparison. Zimmerman killed an unarmed black child.

Rittenhouse killed two white men, and injured a third white man. At least one was armed with a gun and another had a skateboard, and skateboards had been thrown/used as weapons that night.
