What is the solution to the problem though? Private schools will continue to raise tuition as they expand their campuses and offerings. Are you just going to disallow student loans in general then?

This is the dumbest part of America's immigration debate.

People are so upset with Biden not controlling immigration like Trump.

But in regards to the Southern border, Trump just instituted more cruelty. And in exchange for this cruelty, and the false sense of being made secure, American citizens allow Trump's goons to cause long-term damage to other parts of the legal immigration system that will cause long-term damage to this country.

American needs to be taking in millions more people a year.

That not only goes for the right. I see a lot of dumb anti-immigration comments from people on the left too.

it’s a bad situation all around, he should have never said he’d forgive student loans and I don’t know how half these people will resume pavements.

i don’t even think student loan forgives is that great of an idea. It will just happen again down the line. Sure it would be great for a lot of people but then the next group will get screwed again. But since he promised it he should do it.

I’d like to see the root of the problem solved too to go along with forgiveness to stop it from happening again.
It was perfectly fine for him to say it IMO

Dude didn't know Delta was gonna happen. The labor market recovered way faster than anyone predicted. Retaking the Senate wasn't even a lock

better public schools to compete with them that would cost less.

I definitely wanted student loan forgiveness but best believe ive been beating the ish out of my loan principal these past 2 years. Taking full advantage of that interest freeze.
My girl made a good dent in hers. I advised her against it but she didn't listen, her usual payment was $300, but she was throwing in like $800 a month

But increases in rent finna screw her over big time. Her rent is jumping by 50%

yeah I can’t advocate what I’m doing for everyone. Fortunately for us, my I wife and I’s, income grew pretty substantially over COVID just due to the unique positions our companies were in. Mixed with the fact there wasn’t sh*t else to do. So we kept the payment going and threw some money on top of our mortgage payment too.

One thing about loan forgiveness, it can’t happen with out making public/state institutions free. This will make “elite” private institutions adjust costs or offer a product that leads to exceptional value in the job market.

it’s also on us the “debt generation” to let our kids know that where you went to college in 90% of cases doesn’t matter. Take the cheapest/easiest route to get a degree and get out.

We do live together now

The plan for the longest time was for me to move back into my house. And for her to get a place with her sister (who has a young child and needs help)

Maybe even them renting my house and me getting a place on my own or saying in our current apartment

But the family I rent my house to is in a tough place. I gave them so many breaks on rent, and with increases in the market, if they moved the rent they would pay would double or worse.

I don't want to screw them over either.

Them fools baking be giving me pies and cakes, and sending me albums with pics of their kids to butter me up because they know my heart is soft.

So while I could still move out and get a place myself, my girl and her sister probably need my help. Now the plan might be all three (four with the kid) to get a bigger apartment in the current complex. They are over here all the time already

So I'm over here eating this struggle pecan pie, with Peppa Pig blasting in the background, cursing socialist Jesus as to why he gave me so much damn sympathy.

Since I work from home, I provide free babysitting too.

This morning after waking up mad early to make this kid banana pancakes, this child gonna get sad, and when I try to cheer her up she asked me for two guinea pigs for X-Mas. Looked at her like...

elite institutions and grad schools will still keep their prices though. It’ll just make it a larger barrier to entry.

Because at the end of the day the college you finish really means nothing. It’s the alumni that keep coming back and recruiting is what makes the school great.

Even if what you are saying would work, it would take decades.

you’re a good dude man.

sounds like you got it figured out the best you can without being a douche.

you could grab another house if we were in normal times and just let your girls family Rent for cost. I’m sure you’ve already thought of that though and that’s also a huge pain…

theyll be forced to offer a superior product though. A product that can’t be gotten with an education from a state school. And that has the success rates and ROI to justify the cost. America as a whole isn’t as in love with higher education as it once was. And there are a TON of millennials and Gen Xers jaded by the cost that are gonna raise a generation of kids that aren’t going to view college the same way we did. Prestige means less and less. Especially the further you go on with your education.

Yeah, like my daughter is 15 and wants to go to college but she is even saying she doesn’t care as long as she gets what she needs out of it.

kids know about the cost these days.

In terms of prestige I think you underestimate its value. Depends on the major and career path but in business related fields school matters.

Doesn’t mean someone who goes to an Ivy will automatically be more successful, but they will have more doors open to them.

i think it meant more when college was less accessible. And maybe at certain companies it still holds weight. But I don’t think Americans are conditioned as they once were to accept a $50k+ Bill when an equally viable option is could be available with similar outcomes little to no cost at all. I’m not saying elite institutions are just gonna cave and drop prices all together, and I’m not saying the prestige won’t be the reason some choose to go. But an actual free/low cost public option would defiantly impact attendance at many of Americas elite institutions.

if college was free I’d go in the winter when I’m laid off work being a 34 year old grown *** man because why not?

work on an engineering degree in the winter and go paving in the summer. I’d have a job waiting for me when I was tired of busting my ***.

I think who it will hurt are the middle of the road private schools who have been closing the last decade anyway. There is no space for you if you are not elite and expensive. It doesn’t make sense.

But generally I agree that if you have the option of going to an expensive non elite private school or a cheaper state school, then the state school would be a better option. Like Hofstra and Manhattan colleges here in NY are not worth the tuition. Their degrees just don’t have the pull here. I’d rather my kid go to a Baruch for business or Stony Brook for medical studies.

The schools outside the top 50-60 are the ones who will need to adjust.

Yeah the market will have to adjust accordingly. It’s going to force those middle of the road schools to up the caliber of education they offer or close. Or maybe there will be avenues for these schools to offer state sponsored degrees for specific programs. Theres a lot of different ways this could go.

Based Jesus Based Jesus I found some Dems we can both be mad at

The Maryland legislature had a chance to turn a 7-1 map into a 8-0 map, and a couple of people for silly *** reasons prevented it from happening :smh:

So a far-right freedom caucus nut gets to keep his seat even though the majority of the Democratic Party wanted to get rid of him, because of a couple of coward and self serving liberals :smh:
