***Official Political Discussion Thread***

Questioning people's blackness inevitably leads you down a rabbit hole
to making goofy arguments that reinforce stereotypes and oppression.

it's like the Sauron's ring in Lord of The Ring.

you think your using it but often times it is using you.
Arguably the biggest issue discussing race is race is a made up concept based on how far your ancestors lived from the equator and more and more how much you identify with the genetic features that gives you. So to define membership of a race is mostly a subjective concept. It was once encoded in law but for good or bad that is becoming much less frequent.

I am willing to be the devils advocate on this and argue a lot of the disconnect going on in this conversation is because there is an ethnic group made of the descendants of African American enslaved people that have called themselves black for a long time but the term is too broad to describe them accurately.

I would actually argue that the term “African American” better describes this ethnic group better than Black does and that the race black is a all inclusive thing like the racial term for Asian or Native American or white, and the issue we’re seeing a lot these days is the ethnic group of African Americans do have a group culture identity that gets overlapped with the concept of race and makes discussing both…. Impossible.

For example, Korean Americans are considered Asian, just like Italian Americans are considered white, or Haitian Americans are considered black. African Americans need a name for their ethnicity that is separate from the term from race.

Guess we now know which direction they lean. Wonder what was the final straw for her? The red flag laws for guns he passed? How about banning conversion therapy? The 12 weeks paid family leave and 12 weeks paid sick leave? No? I got it, it was the free breakfast & lunches for school kids! She's pathetic. We get it you're rich & feel entitled. Sorry Tim passed laws to help regular Minnesotans that don't have your $$$$
I did the unthinkable - clicked the comments section of her tweet...smh.

People are just vile creatures sometimes.

I think Black American describes the group better. An American with an Amazigh (North African) background would technically be African American, but they're not black.

A lot of our racial classifications are rooted in 19th century race theories (pseudoscience) that just don't want to die. The discussion around blackness is mostly cultural, but because of these pseudoscientific concepts, we often conflate skin color with culture.

Yeah that term would work too. I just think that the ethnic group needs its own name and most of the hostility toward membership with cease. It would also allow them to better formulate an argument for reparations. Though the best legal argument would require some sort of state action and ironically enough people who identify as other ethnicities today would be beneficiaries too. Race is way too broad to be questioned based on ethnic ties, but an ethnicity can be.

judging from that graphic, I think Kamala made this decisions at the last possible second.

no way anyone spent more than 5 mins on that.

Their official campaign artwork should be Brat Green and Artist Formerly Known as Prince purple.

Let right wingers freak out about that.

I hope we can calm down and be better. I love my NT family too much for us to post things that have been posted these last few pages. This Black identity stuff is wack and only helps the bad guys.

I don’t think that you could find a serious academic who believes that Blackness only would apply to Descendants of Slavery in the US or the colonies that would become the US.

trying to segregate blackness feels extra stupid in the internet age.
mass media is interconnected, it's inevitable that culture is going to be shared and remixed, among people who look like each other.

Starting off strong here in the Project 2025 PDF (page 36), glazing Reagan's era as something everyone should emulate. I'm sure that'll perform great with black voters.

The second highlighted sentence goes on to state the 3 main "threats" conservatives faced in 1979; "the Soviet Union, the socialism of 1970s liberals, and the predatory deviancy of cultural elites."

No mention of Reagan's criminal Iran-Contra conspiracy and cover-up, or the fact Reagan was deeply racist.
As you likely know, Reagan got caught on tape expressing his blatant disdain for black people while in conversation with Richard Nixon. Including slurs such as "monkeys."
Miraculously, the tape does not contain the N word. However I think we can all agree that someone referring to black people as monkeys is certainly no stranger to letting the hard R rip.

Summary: The document glazes Reagan for a whole page and describes Reagan and his so-called 'ideals' as what "[America's] generation should embody."

This next except is from page 37, titled "RESTORE THE FAMILY AS THE CENTERPIECE OF AMERICAN LIFE AND PROTECT OUR CHILDREN"
Well apparently that starts with deleting the terms sexual orientation, diversity, inclusion, ...out of any federal rules, regulations, grants, legislation, ...
This is just the foreword and it's already completely bat**** insane. Literally everage page gets more dystopian and absurd.
