***Official Political Discussion Thread***

that should be you pitch, encourage participation, not indoctrination.

maybe your students don't even buy into da binary party options...and that's beeeen da trend line.

i dont buy into party loyalty either.

i buy into da self interest party, as should everyone else.

Keep in mind, this is what Iam telling my progressive students. They are already progressive, I am not telling them to be progressive.

I have some libertarian and Republicans students and I don't need to give them this sort of advice because Libertarians and Republicans are much more savvy and they have already infiltrated and changed the RNC, they are already willing to vote for people they do not really like in order to get a particular policy goal achieved.

Movement conservatives don't sit out General elections or waste their votes on third party candidiates in rder to "send a message." They vote for "RINOs" or "true believers," in the general elections, they fight to get the most ideologically conservative that they can get in the primaries and they repeat that process over and over and they have done quite well for themselves over the last half century.

no one is gonna make flipping burgers a 15 dollar a hour job without HEAVY job loss as a result....
let the business models change then.

if that kid is running a machine flipping 100 burgers at once, you can pay him $15.

i hear the same argument about beef and chicken... if we enforce laws requiring humane treatment of cows and chickens, then prices would go up. well let them. there is plenty of food in this country for everyone x10.

edit: a substantive discussion on this would require much more depth than we are capable of. but i'll just say that the market will adapt. to me we just need to maximize productivity that allows for basic living coverage for our people (housing, food, health care, education). we get there with the proper education and jobs. if that comes out to 40% of people employed full time, that's fine. if it takes 120% of people, that's not.

There is probably always going to be a human employee to interact with in the face of growing automation.

For example, I always order my movie tickets online and use the machine at the theater now. But last spring, there was something wrong with the machine. Some kind of technicality cuz I bought tickets to the same movie on back to back days. Suddenly I needed someone human to talk to and the teller behind the window who never does anything finally had something to do.

People need that human interaction so human employees are never going to be entirely cut out of the picture.

I'm not sure how increasing automation is an argument for increasing wages though.

Rex, do you think those "ideological conservatives" are going to lean towards Trump or Hillary?

I'm okay with this. :lol
Me too. Too bad all of the white people who said they were going to leave the country if President Obama won, didn't. I would love to see a back to europe movement if Hillary wins. If she elects Biden Secretary of State, that would be cool, but she needs to hire a brother to a position that would really piss off "the american people."

Rex, do you think those "ideological conservatives" are going to lean towards Trump or Hillary?

Most of Trump's resurgence in the polls is the fact that libertarians, evangelicals and rich white women will vote for the Republican, as they do every election.

A libertarian will say "I don't like his trade policies and his ' law and order' rhetoric, but he will cut back on regulations and capital gains taxes."

Evangelicals have already said that banning abortion is more important than Trump's "potty mouth."

Rich white women in the burbs love that Trump will brutalize blacks and Mexicans and Muslims and reduce top marginal rates. Their rationale is "If he met ME, he would respect ME, he wouldn't grope ME, he ain't talkin' about ME." (HT Chris Rock).

The only two Republican voting blocs that may really refuse to "come home," to their nominee are conservative Jews and Mormons. Conservative Jews know what Trump means by "globalists" and "international bankers," Trump ain't talking about the excesses of transnational corporations when he talks like that.

Mormons also tend to be much more honorable and than other members of the religious right. Mormons actually do care about manners and while they may be naive about racism, they are not animated by racial appeals in the way that other conservatives can be. Members of the LDS Church may indeed stick with Evan McMullin or Gary Johnson on election day.

:lol that'll be the day. Americans telling the deplorables that if they don't like it they can go back to Europe...

some day. some day soon.

edit: to add to rex's post -- i think Catholics are roughly split this time around. but, with Pope Francis's influence, i see them moving more to the left in future elections and generations.

I do not think I will live long enough to see it happen, but a movement back to the fuhrerland would be hysterical! Clinton does two terms, and then a Latino or Asian gets in there, white people wont know what to do with themselves! Let me say it this way, white men wont know what to do with themselves!

she cheated, maybe. and the FBI is committing federal crimes by playing partisan politics to try to influence a presidential election. how does that make you feel?

He totally chose not to respond to this cause he knows this is true lol.

This whole Comey saga has peaked my interest on the FBI.

I'm about to crack open this book on the history of the FBI called Enemies by Tim Weiner

anyone read it?

I'll report back on what I find, you guys will want to know what your up against when president Trump is sworn in and dismantles the free press. :lol

OMG!!! Get that man out the sun before he loses his og colorway
sick.gif
Who? The Leonardo DiCaprio looking guy holding the "DOMINICANS 4 TRUMP" sign. Nah, not necessary. Nobody would ever mistake him for anything other than white. The man obviously carries some grade A Aryan genes the Führer would be proud of. I'm talking straight purebred Viking stuff. Like this guy:

this is where Clinton gets fried.

Who hurt you?

Maybe slave owners? Or the KKK? Or decades centuries of being treated like a second class citizen?

To be fair, I cringe too when I see blatantly anti-white rhetoric. But I don't think daddy is asking for all whites to go back to Europe. Rather than turning the tables, he wants things to be balanced. He wants a white man to feel the same sting that a black man feels when he hears someone tell him to back to Africa. Or the way a Chinese-American feels when he's told to go back to Asia. Or the way an Iranian-American feels when he's told to go back to riding his camels.... The way women must feel when they're told sexual harassment is part of the culture. The way homosexuals feel when they're told HIV is god's punishment. The way Latino-Americans feel when they're told they are rapists and to go back to Mexico. and so on. (Basically everything Trump has been saying over his lifetime, but I don't want to make this about politics.)

I envision an America that fulfills the founding principles of a melting pot, not just of skin color but of religion and ethnicity. To me, the people who are fighting against that are THE MOST UN-AMERICAN people there are, and they are the ones who should be told "go back to your country."

“Re: Friendly advice. No mercy."
"Bernie needs to be ground to a pulp. We can't start believing our own primary ********. This is no time to run the general. Crush him as hard as you can."
"I agree with that in principle. Where would you stick the knife in?"
"Obama betrayer (Wh will affirm). Hapless legislator (Senators/members will affirm). False promiser (policy elites will affirm). Can't win (black people will affirm)."

Absolutely disparaging comments against Bernie Sanders. Still unsure how ex-Bernie fans can see this, in addition to the proven rigging of the primaries against him, and other incredibly awful comments about his followers and supporters... and NOT be livid at Hillary and her staff.
Not only in this email do they talk badly about Bernie, they specifically say he betrayed Obama, is a terrible legislator, liar, and black people won't vote for him.

Lol, you gave that dude a bit too much. He can't comprehend that much at one time without it being delivered by fox news.

CNN Debate Attendee Reacts to Her Question Being Leaked to Clinton Campaign
by Ken Meyer | 5:01 pm, November 1st, 2016 VIDEO 353

screen-shot-2016-11-01-at-3-34-22-pmOn Tuesday’s Happening Now, Fox’s Jenna Lee spoke with the woman who asked the question that former CNN contributor Donna Brazile gave to Hillary Clinton‘s campaign before a CNN presidential debate.

Lee-Anne Walters identified herself as the “woman with a rash” who wanted to ask Clinton about her plan to address the poison water crisis that continues to afflict Flint, Michigan. Hacked emails from WikiLeaks revealed that when Brazile was still with her old network, she somehow got hold of Walters’ question, and then sent campaign chairman John Podesta advanced notice of what was coming.

When asked how she felt about the news, Walters said that Clinton “should be disqualified because she had had an advantage she shouldn’t have had.” Walters also said that she was “disgusted” by Clinton’s answer, describing it as a “cop-out” that would not adequately address the lead in the city’s water.
