***Official Political Discussion Thread***

Americans don't understand how foreign policy works, which is a shame because it's really all the president is good for.

Trump will go further right on Israel, so good luck with voters on that Iran issue

It always kills me with trump’s stupidity on “the wall” (and now it’s tariffs)

But ain’t no wall was stopping the people who fly into the country legally on whatever visas and just stay, like elon.. and that’s the immigration problem in the US and elsewhere

The only two questions now are how much more damage can Trump do to our political institutions in four years and will he have the votes in Congress to pass a new law on term limits.

Not joking about that last part.

The reality here is Dems are never going to win if the truth doesn't matter.

If people complain about the price of eggs and blame poltics instead of the avain flu outbreak, the truth doesnt matter
If people complain about the price of gas and ignore the deal trump cut with opec that cut oil supplies driving up prices onlt for more oil to be produced under the biden harris admin, the truth doesnt matter
If people complain about inflation, ignore the massive amounts of stimulus via direct payments and PPP loans that took place under trump (some of it justified) to prop up the economy during a time where the supply chain was at its weakest, and despite all of that the biden admin was able to reduce the inflation rate down faster than any other developed nation, the truth doesnt matter.

when it boils down to it, dems arent held to the same standard as republicans are by the american people and now more than ever, vibes matter more than the truth. especially when it comes to the economy. if the truth doesnt matter i dont know if dems will ever be able to reach THIS America in any meaningful way if appealing to reality doesnt matter.
It’s obvious that the charismatic candidate is what matters most. You can lie the rest of the time.

Latinos aren’t a real group that’s the biggest issue. Latin America is a gigantic multi-racial hodgepodge, an indigenous Bolivian, an Afro-Brazilian and a white Cuban have very little in common but all are “Latino”. It’s not a real block of people united by anything, and the majority who migrate here legally are the most well-off members of their country. Florida is the new capital of the Republican Party for a reason as it is really the northern tip of of Latin America and the financial capital which has the sort of effects you would expect.
what are you are talking about?

Joe Biden moved to the left on literally everything
Yes, but he was an unappealing corpse who has spent his career talking down to people and was mostly profoundly crooked and unlikable. Joe Biden might have had the most left-wing economic policies since Carter but it didn’t matter if his term was marked by massive inflation and the end of the Covid era checks (something that is stupid but for lots of low information voters, color their perception of Trump “helping” them).

He also got us into two wars with an ever emerging third.

Your whole thing is blaming the left, and you’ll do it again, but the reality is they win in 2008 by convincing people that they were actually on that side and abandoned the playbook ever since.

Yea he's not leaving office until he dies or is removed I'm afraid :lol

Absolutely not gonna happen on his own volition anymore after all the work that his supreme court did this passed year giving the POTUS unprecedented power and protections.

Ok.......cool. Yall are free to feel that way. But I'm just trying to give some insight on why this demographic didn't support the Dems. But just keep this in mind, keep calling them incels, misogynistic, and smooth brained and you'll do nothing but ensure that the Dems will not sniff the white house again. They can't win without their support. And sooner tor later the party will have to come to terms with that. A lot of yall seem to have forgotten that politics is all about engagement.
Personally, for me, it's never about dems and Republicans.

It's about integrity, honesty, patriotism, honor. All of which trump has none. If this were George w. I didn't think people are so polarized. But the days of a decent Republican that puts country first is almost over.

To add, I think the Republican party is much more guilty of name calling than democrats.

There's gonna be a lot of "told you so" moments in the next 4 years.

When inflation continues to rise because people realize it was about corporate greed and not economic decisions...

When over policing leads to social unrest...

When none of the promises Trump made are actually done...

When taxes for the middle class go up...

When the economy crashes because of his awful plan...

When unions are busted up...

When the rich get richer and the middle class shrinks...

Etc etc.

Gonna be very interesting to see if the resurgent labor movement energy and urgency of the Biden years carries its momentum and continues to grow under Trump 2.0.

Might be one of the few tools working and middle class folks might have to fight for material gains short term now that the electoral avenue will be blocked for the time being...

On a large scale, sustained organized labor movements might be crucial in the long fight against the continued ascendancy of the far right and fascists worldwide.

We just had a labor strike at US ports because of the threat of automation… Trump
is going to push it full steam ahead

Tbh he may actually die. Dude can’t be in great health and he’s almost 80

At this point I just feel deflated. I had a shred of optimism after Biden dropped out but now I’m feeling the same way I felt between Biden’s trainwreck debate performance and Trump’s first assassination attempt.

Feels like we’re in a dark tunnel and there’s no light at the end. America is cooked for the foreseeable future.

Get your money NT, thats going to be the only way through and out of this sh*tstorm
Simple. Lie and then do the right thing. If it all works out for the average American, they won't even notice.

I wonder if paulwest1985 paulwest1985 would be in here taking victory laps like he is now if Harris would’ve won? Ya know, since he didn’t like either platform and voted third party.

Intersante. 🤔🤔🤔
How am I taking victory laps? I'm not celebrating Trumps victory. I'm neither upset or excited that Trump won. I saw it coming. The only thing I'm doing is trying to explain why a significant demographic of men went for trump.

Unfortunately a lot of the issues Kamala and the Democrats faced come back to Joe Biden's hubris. Remember when he said he didn't plan on running for reelection? That's the root of all of these issues.

I understand why the Democrats quickly coalesced around Harris given the timeline but she was set up to fail from the beginning. I think she ran a great campaign, all things considered and crushed Trump in the debate but she was in a tough spot. Despite all of her efforts, Harris was never going to be able to separate herself from Biden, who is a historically unpopular president. The shortened timeline also didn't give Harris much time to fully flesh out her policies either.

Ideally Democrats would have had an open primary and found a fresh-faced (likely male) candidate but given the timeline you can't pluck a candidate from relative obscurity and a lot of the strong contenders (I liked Josh Shapiro or Wes Moore) wouldn't want to burn their political capital on a failed, last minute presidential campaign in 2024 when they could run a full campaign in 2028.

Of course the entire reason the Democrats were in this difficult spot is because of Joe biden's hubris. Joe should have told the world he wasn't running in 2022 so Democrats could have had a normal election cycle. I liked Joe as a president and I think he did a great job but unfortunately a big part of his legacy is going to be how badly he botched the 2024 election cycle and how he screwed over the party

Not joking about that last part.

This is going to sound like hyperbole but it isn't.

The country is finished as we know it.

Trump is far less mentally stable than he was. He doesn't have to worry about a second term (or running for one at least), he's not even going to try to appoint more "traditional" Republicans like he did last time in Mathis, Milley, even Pence tbh, etc., he's likely to get 2 more SC appointments, a whole host of federal judge appointments, and the crew he's going to bring in won't have the same bedding in period that they had last time so they'll be gunning right out the gate.

The damage is going to be incalculable.

It's truly a tragedy made worse by the fact that so many so called "patriots" voted him in.

Honestly, Im with the dude above. Hoard your money and protect your family.

Was having this conversation with my mom months ago. These impressionable men eat this stuff up and Dems definitely need shift focus on where their messaging goes but just like how the media treats Republicans with kid gloves these content creators and their misinformation outreach go completely unchecked as well.

but Dems still gotta trend this route more and more regardless

Yea unfortunately the kids won't save us either...

The boys especially are neck deep in that red pill/trad revivalist stuff that's been finely tuned and targeted directly at them throughout their formative years

That was always a LIE. They are their parents kids, at the end of the day :lol :lol

I mean the negative messaging on ACA was unpopular and stopped them from repealing.

but this is my point, the ACA survived negative messaging because it was ACTUALLY popular. it wasn't a polling mirage.
It survived negative messaging, it survived implementation, when people try to take it away the public gets mad.

I don't know how you can look at student debt relief, a policy that benefits women and the college educated

and then literally right after, dems get killed with non college educated male voters, and don't actually make up much with women.

and think student debt relief is actually a popular thing that wins votes.

Or look at the child tax credit and watch no one care that it got implemented, know one care when it expires and think that this is a strong thing that moves votes.

these issue polls should be taken with massive grains of salt imo.
