***Official Political Discussion Thread***

At the end of the day, voters in general (not specific to the US or any country) are not the brightest. I would use a far more harsher and more accurate description but I can't without getting banned.
You gotta cater to the lowest common denominator to some degree at least.

An increasingly significant aspect holding Dems back imo is that a small portion of the base are willing to shoot themselves in the foot and spray everyone else down with them just for the sake of some kind of moral grandstanding about voting third party or not voting at all. Those kind of people don't really exist in the Republican base.
Again, I would describe these kind of people much differently but I can't without getting banned.

Oh no, the candidate isn't my perfect fantasyland imagination of what I want, better vote third party or stay home and then morally grandstand. Oh poor little privileged child, shut the **** up and cry about it later. It's literally as simple as picking whichever you deem more or less beneficial.

OKB will be like “the Dems have to stop being the party of the elite.”

Then you point out the elite crushed the Bernie movement which was made up hundreds of thousands of small working-class donors with massive cross-racial, working class appeal and he be like “the Bernie left is the problem with the party.”

Winnings peoples vote has to start with getting a candidate outside of the party to be honest, that’s how toxic the centrist are because no body trusts them or likes them at this point. They have no beliefs besides maintaining their stranglehold on the party. The republicans have beliefs even if they’re evil imo, they fight for them and have a vision centered around them.

I like Bernie, I initially thought he was the best candidate in 2020.

but im sorry the Bernie revisionism is crazy, every bernie revisionist needs to ask themselves;

IF BERNIE COULDN'T WIN MODERATE VOTES IN A DEMOCRATIC PARTY

WHY WOULD YOU THINK HE COULD DO IT A GENERAL ELECTION???

I don't really care about student loan debt, but it's also not a divisive issue. There aren't really huge amounts of people against it, or would rally to stop it. Play to your base, you want to help black people out instead of Kamala's crypto plan? Black Americans carry the most student loan debt. You think doing things that appeal to the people who will actually vote for you is a bad electoral strategy for some reason.

There are a lot of people who hated the student loan relief believe me. But rather than force education reform we are doing debt relief where the issues stem from the institutions themselves.

These are uncertain times ahead, with the presidency, House, and Senate all controlled by Republicans, and a particularly radical president at the helm. It’s hard to know what’s in store. Let’s stay hopeful and PRAY!

If there's any glimmer of hope, it's that things have to go well these next two years, or there will be hell to pay in 2026. It's possible Republicans in the House and Senate won't get on board with some of the dumb stuff like tariffs, because they'll have their own hides to worry about.

A lot of people are economically struggling right now, and prices are up. Rather its right or not whoever is in office at the time is going to get the blame.
Yup. This happened all over the world. Whatever party was in office post Covid took an L. Left or right. Didn’t matter. The writing was on the wall :{

language like this is the reason why

it has nothing to do with "pitting us against each other"

people think this language is weird and alienating and it makes the democrats look like the "maniacal corrupt elites"

there is no andrew tate conspiracy.

running on freedom, equality, and old fashioned don't be racist.
is great, people like that. do that.

We'll agree to disagree. For clarification, are you saying we need to cater to the debauchery to gain their votes?

There is an Andrew Tate problem. We can't ignore some of the systemic and ideological issues.

That's why, instead of weaponizing identity policies and intersectionalities, we need to evoke the class struggles and start looking into organizing outside these systems that serves the oligarchies.

The thing about this is that it’ll only get worse with his policies. Yet he’ll spend the next four years, blaming the Dems and his base will believe it.

if people had said

"hey man our voters are college educated, and female. yah its a bit inflationary and yah its kinda regressive since it helps doctors and lawyers and phds the most
but we hey we won so lets do it."

i would be like fine whatever.

but what actually happened is people made absurd arguments about how popular it was
and how actually its not that regressive

the first reason is realistic hardball politics.

the second reason is a delusion that comes from confusing the interests of college educated voters with the entire electorate.

Probably not, but thats what im saying. Its a huge disconnect I feel like with the party and the black community in 2024. This aint the 90's no more.

I just feel like young black men get bullied a lot for lacking some information. But the dems still have the black women vote on lock. So its like they aren't listening to the brothers no more. And I feel like with immigration and stuff our voice is getting less and less important. Which is why ppl like Charleston, Ye, and others can rise cuz they give a message that ****** can relate to

So if they’re so “disconnected” with the Dems…. What’s the connection to the Republican Party?

“Relating to a message” just because a particular person said it…. Still doesn’t absolve them from the fact of being misinformed. They still need to educate themselves regardless of who said it. I f*** with Charleston and Ye as entertainers. But dudes really need to separate the entertainment value from the information

Again, I have a broke, 24 year old cousin who had no idea what a 401k was talking about he supports Trump. Always bumming rides and smokes weed all day :lol :lol :lol Trump isn’t going to benefit him in no way

…. People were going through this when Trump was in office from 2016-2020 as well :lol :lol
Im only going to speak for myself. But 16-19 was cool for me personally. I was working at the mall and could afford an apartment in Houston which is a big city and gas was cheap as hell. I feel like ppl weren't hurting like they are now. Friends, females in my life are all telling me now they are struggling more than ever. I had friends that had to move out the city. And my generation is the new adults, so its like natural reaction is gonna be lets switch it up. I want to own a house one day too man

Obama told them why its important to vote and they literally complained that he was "preaching to the wrong crowd"

We have to hold young black men accountable for not being informed with current events and policy and how voting at all levels impacts them directly

The US has a overall problem with regard to turnout and actual doing what is in your best interests

Black men get flack, but that’s the second most solid group behind black women

It’s white women and poor whites and supposedly religious folks who these convos need to start with especially after trump.. it’s those groups who need the heat turned up on, it’s just easy to always turn and point the fingers at black men for any slight dips in percentages or turnout

But trump ain’t the first selfish white dude with multiple wives that would have burned a long time ago if the Bible was taken literally.. could only imagine the questions that would publically be discussed if Lindsey was a democrat..

It’s still wild to me that Hillary suffered for doing the supposed Christian thing and forgiving the indiscretions of her husband

No connection its just different. Our parents and grandparents been voting dem our whole lives. And if you are black and from the south you were raised that way. So I think a lot men just feel like they are being lied to. Especially when they pockets are hurting and the cost of everything is rising. Im not a republican but I cant blame ppl for feeling like they felt unheard

To add to this point

That's 100% a massive fumble all things considered given the stakes and felt entirely avoidable immediately when Biden dropped out.

Gonna end up being a historic wasted opportunity

imo this is leftist propaganda.

a fact everyone needs to understand
MARGINAL VOTERS ARE MORE CONSERVATIVE THAN HIGH PROPENSITY VOTERS.

moving to the left isn't a magic pill that turns out more voters.

also the 2020 covid election numbers aren't realistic reference point for turnout.

A lot of people are economically struggling right now, and prices are up. Rather its right or not whoever is in office at the time is going to get the blame.

nah we don't have to lie.

there are not a lot of people struggling right now. american at full employment. income is rising in lower classes.
economy is growing better than anywhere else on the planet.

people just really really hate inflation. thats what this is about.

What does this even look like if facts and truth don’t matter though? Political engagement has been degraded by the right so much that folks will believe a shade room post before a study released by pew research. If Dems want to continue to put real plans forth that actually help people, this is not game Dems can win.
