:lol

Putin was directly behind it man. Nothing in Russia takes place at these levels of government, at this level of magnitude, without say so from Putin or at the very least full knowledge of it.

good point. imagine that awkward conversation...

"Hey Vlad, how's it going?"
"Good, Boris. What have you been up to lately?"
"Well, I directed a team of hackers to undertake a sophisticated hacking effort and coordinated with Wikileaks to release this information in a way that would be damaging to the American election and tilt the scales towards Trump."
"Why didn't you tell me about this before? Who told you to do this? How do you know this is what we want? This is ridiculous, Boris! Why doesn't anyone tell me things around here?"
"Well, with all due respect, sir, you are a kindhearted gentle man who has never engaged in duplicitous behavior, so I did not want to get your hands dirty on this one. Plus, I figure you don't feel strongly about these sorts of things."
"Why, Boris, you are correct. Carry on."

We really got to do better on education in this country.

I never realized how many people haven't the slightest clue how our government works.

man you'd be surprised I'm 20 and the lack of knowledge kids have on how government works is crazy. i cant blame them tho i cant even remember ever really being taught all that well about how government works until i read up on it on my own and took political science classes in college

to be honest, i was a Political Science major, and i still have the faintest idea of what is going on

Schools don't put this level of awareness of the gov't workings as a priority. Hell, they barely explain how taxes work in schools

They need to watch some old episodes of Schoolhouse Rock!

I legit sent my homeboy this video when he was complaining to be about why doesn't Obama pass a bill to punish cops killing unamred black people.

Dude didn't think it was funny, but I lose my patience more and more at people that don't even take the time to learn about how our government works.

:rollin @ Donald basically telling a crowd full of his supporters the whole drain the swamp **** was a false promise. Nothing but lies.

Son said it sounded corny and just wanted to see how it played with the crowd.

People in the crowd faces :lol
:rollin

Dude really just reupholstered the swamp and dipped everything in gold :lol

Y'all are right...I only have a tiny idea because I studied government in undergrad. I think keeping the general public oblivious is part of the deal, though. Same reason legal writing is barely understandable even to lawyers.:{

Those of you who lack the knowledge have no excuses though. At the very least you should have an understanding of the workings of the government that makes most of the important decisions that effect your lives. We got the internet...educate and empower yourselves.

Only real thing I remember is us memorizing the School House Rock Preamble song. It's amazing that to this day I remember that song.:lol

I'm not the smartest guy in the room, but I like to make sure that I'm not the dumbest guy in the room. :lol

Would have probably said the same thing if it weren't for this. My HS history teachers (especially those who taught 19th-20th century stuff) made us watch the news and report the next class though, so that helped A LOT in putting current events in a larger context.

I never had high school teachers do that lol I only started reading newspapers more last year because I've been taking journalism courses as well as political science. Man our education system is in desperate need of repair :lol

My sophomore year in high school I took a class on current events.

Every Friday we had to write a report about a current event and discuss it in class.

Had to have legit sources cited too.

I had some decent classes on American history and civics in high school, and I may have been on the debate team... Those were helpful and gave me the jargon and basics, but it wasn't until after college when I really got a better handle on things. It was a combination of a) gaining an authentic interest in politics as I was trying to understand some complicated international issues (I learned how to judge information and the importance of studying history), b) gaining an understanding about psychology and human nature (which ultimately is what politics is about), and c) just good old maturity, both as a thinker an as a person.

No matter how we got to where we are now, it's a continual evolution. My views have changed drastically over the years and I am sure they will continue to change. What has not changed is the importance of introspection and understanding bias, not just in others but in yourself, and, like I mentioned above, remembering to judge events in the context of history and human behavior. A cornerstone for all this is, of course, knowing the basic facts and truth of things. It's pointless, for example, to debate the success of Obama's presidency when one doesn't even know how a bill gets passed or the role of the Supreme Court. And it's pointless to debate Russia's intentions if one doesn't understand the history of the Soviet Union and Cold War.

If they confirm a story is fake, they notify Facebook through a special reporting website it exclusively built for them, and can include a link to a post debunking the article. Facebook will then show posts of those links lower in the News Feed. It will also attach a warning label noting “Disputed by [one or more of the fact checkers]” with a link to the debunking post on News Feed stories and in the status composer if users are about to share a dubious link, plus prohibit disputed stories from being turned into ads.

One year too late but it's better than nothing.
