+1. So much backlash against "smart" people, the morons run the country and they're controlled by the government now

I've seen conservatives complain about "hipsters," safe spaces, college students who don't have to work, craft cocktails, activists, yoga classes, lattes and folks who travel a lot. They seem to dislike the habits, attitudes and affectations of young people who have upper and upper middle class parents. And yet conservatives support the policies that enrich the top 10% and impoverish the rest. To make matters worse for conservatives, who live in poorer parts of the country, they oppose the measures that would give them some rough parody with the urban bourgeoisie that has done so well these last 20 years.

trump's hand from tip of middle finger to the wrist is 7.25", according to a mold of his hand.

average hand size for someone his height is a full inch longer, or about 15% more. that's akin to the difference in height between Duncan and Parker

@millenial would be proud of that measurement research

he's about to let us know ninja's hands are also 7.25", just like his beloved leader.

but all kidding aside, the ban on Iranians is horrible. trump is ruining lives and it is complete ********. why not ban Saudis or Pakistanis instead? i really despise and hate trump right now. this needs to stop. someone needs to tell him to step aside.

i think there's at least 2 Oscar nominees who can't attend the academy awards now. everyone should either boycott it or just use the 3 hours to ridicule trump. this is ****** up.

I saw that the ban makes mention of aliens, which means that it could be possible for resident aliens (think green card holders) and non-immigrant aliens (like international students) to not be allowed back in the country if they ever leave.

Students are especially vulnerable because every time they leave the US, they have to get a visa in order to come back in. That means that anyone from any of those countries may not be able to finish their studies even after having spent between 2 and 4 times the annual tuition amount for a resident.

The brain drain is going to hurt us

The average American is an idiot. Don't let NT's political thread's demographics fool you; in real life and outside of major West and East Coast cities/metro areas, illiterate and/or ignorant people outnumber people with common sense by far.

This is exactly what happened in England too. All the brainless hicks outside of the major cities voted for "taking Britain back" from the EU, and then they started crying about it all over Twitter in the upcoming weeks. Their hate towards Polish and Muslim immigrants was the only thing that mattered, until they learned about the negative economic and social consequences AFTER the vote

See this is my issue.

Your condescending tone does nothing.

A lot of people are just raised in enviroments where following politics seems like a waste of time.

At 31 Ive probably just started paying even the slightest attention to it because of Obama.

Instead of spewing your negative views on people who seem to be at a loss, why not shepherd the sheep?

Probably why this thread has so many few new posters.

Its like the gym for out of shape people tryna get fit but get clowned for taking the first step :smh:

Yea. This, I believe. Probably out of every ten voters, maybe one really follows politics like that. That's out of the people who vote.

Then there's the ppl who don't vote.

Trump Executive Order Could Block 500,000 Legal U.S. Residents From Returning to America From Trips
In banning newcomers from seven countries from entering the United States for the next 30 days, the president has used language that could affect those who are in the U.S. already on visas and green cards.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...me-staff-to-u-s-after-trump-immigration-order

Alphabet Inc.’s Google delivered a sharp message to staff traveling overseas who may be impacted by a new executive order on immigration from President Donald Trump: Get back to the U.S. now.

Google Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai slammed Trump’s move in a note to employees Friday, telling them that more than 100 company staff are affected by the order.

If it was the 90's or anytime before I could have some type of sympathy for people not knowing enough about their own country's government but it's 2017 and we have this thing called the internet.

Information is a few keystrokes away. This election did have a lot of misinformation but there was always access to fact checking.

The orange clown told people what he was going to do and if they believed he was bluffing/lying or that dems would keep him in line, what was the point in voting for him?

You aren't sticking it to the career politicians and the elites by electing a "billionaire outsider" and then voting in the same GOP career politicians down the rest of the ballot.

They wanted their outsider and they got him. Thought they were in on the con but they weren't. Thought his policies would only effect the others (Minorities and LBGTQ).

The orange clown never once fully explained any of his plans and they still voted. None of it mattered because he spewed the rhetoric/dog whistles they liked.

They cared more about a damn wall or ban on Muslims more than they did about their own healthcare. They weren't chanting *BRING BACK JOBS!!!* or *FREE HEALTHCARE!!!*

The so-called party of small government and fiscal conservatives. :rolleyes

Maybe once this is all over and trickle-down economics fails once again it will finally die.

Isn't this unconstitutional as hell?

@Law_Mana:US Border patrol is deciding reentry for green card holders on a case by case basis - questions abt political views, chking facebook, etc

@Law_Mana her phone, txts checked her Facebook and even handcuffed her. Eventually she was admitted.

@Law_Mana At JFK they interrogated an Iranian green card holder for several hours. Asked her about her political views, went through

@Law_Mana Iranian with dual citizenship of Canada not allowed to board plane from Ottowa. #MuslimBan #nodueprocess #constitutionalcrises

This is a politics thread...harsh opinions are to be expected

If you find them bothersome enough to distract or put you off from the wealth of information that's shared in here every day, that's on you

The brain drain is going to hurt us

Not just the brain drain:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-international-students-post-trump-met-20170112-story.html

A study of 40,000 students conducted by Intead, a firm that advises colleges on global marketing, and FPPEDUMedia, which runs student-recruitment fairs abroad, found 60 percent of students said they were less likely to study in the U.S. if Trump won. By comparison, fewer than 4 percent of respondents said they would be deterred from studying in the U.S. if Hillary Clinton won.

And while tuition will not increase next year for Illinois residents, international students at the Urbana-Champaign campus will pay 1.8 percent more, to nearly $30,000.That compares with the $12,036 in base tuition paid by Illinois residents.

International students account for about 5 percent of all U.S. college students, and, as a group, contributed nearly $36 billion to the U.S. economy in 2014-15, according to the institute.

In Illinois, more than 50,000 foreign students brought an estimated $1.6 billion to the state in 2015, according to a study by NAFSA: Association of International Educators.

Public universities used to be more selective when it came to enrolling out-of-state students because their budgets were always met by the state legislature. The move to reduce public funds availability by conservative lawmakers has caused many schools to rely more on foreign students as a cash resource and to neglect their domestic students who rely on federal aid, loans, and who might be more prone to drop out and hurt graduation numbers and other meteics universities care about.
