There is no upside for consumers. Allowing ISP to throttle and direct your internet to content that profits them, they will turn the internet into something like cable T.V. If you have Comcast, you can only watch the content and channels they carry on Comcast. If you have AT&T you can only access their content. Either Netflix and other streaming services will disappear, or be forced to make deals with ISP's to allow their content on the ISP's network. Profits will soar, and so will the cost of these services.

What the US government really needs to do is build a brand new fiver optic infrastructure that serves everyone in the country, and then lease it out wholesale to every single company that wants to become an internet provider.

It would pay for itself, and we would have dozens of companies competing on price.

Sweden did exactly that, and as a result have dozens of services competing to provide service - resulting in some of the best service at the lowest prices on earth.

This would be a great idea but that means it probably won't happen.

If we thought Facebook, Twitter, etc. were playing us by controlling what we see and when, this will make things a thousand times worse. It may well become impossible to find REAL news...which is no doubt exactly what the Republican party wants. We'll be funneled wherever they want us to go each time we go online. Big Brother goes a big step further.
