did the coach blow timeouts again? were the coach(bad communication) forced to take a delay of game in order to preserve timeouts?  That set of down was costly. If it wasnt for that 5 yard penalty, they would've had a first down and kept the drive alive.

I'm not saying it's all on the coaching and the blame should go to both. But really, these are some silly mistakes that should not be happening over and over again.

The delay of game penalty was because VD was standing on the sideline when he supposed to be in the huddle and ran out w/ 10 seconds left on the playclock. That was on Vernon, try again.

So while Alex Smith was standing away from the huddle staring at the coaches as time ticked away, you are saying the coaches and Alex were not communicating because Vernon was on the sideline?  You are really saying that the coaching staff wouldnt make any sort of play call or say a word to Alex because they were waiting on VD?
Ok.

So it looks like the 49ers ARE that team that dominated the 1st half against Seattle... just stupid TOs and some really, really unlucky bounces.
Whether you are an Alex-hater or Alex-supporter the man grew a pair tonight.  In fact he did so well on that drive he left too much time on the clock for Brees
laugh.gif
Some things I noticed about the game:

- Patrick Willis is a hybrid lion/gorilla/otherworldly animal.  Enough said.

- The offensive line in both run and pass protection looked really good.

- Gore still has it.

- Alex Smith can indeed control the offense.

Even though the L hurts this actually gave me confidence going forward knowing that maybe at some point we won't turn the ball over and can thoroughly dominate a game from start to finish and we can play with any team in the league.

OL protection was huge, no sacks allowed
They worked much better with plays being called in quicker.  Smith was able to use cadence to draw the def offside, and was able to point out matches and call plays, no miscommunication disaster like we saw in seattle

Theres no such thing as 'moral' victories. If you believe in moral wins, you are a loser.

Granted we played well enough to stay in the game but, a safety, a touchdown, a fumble inside the 20, a pick inside the 30, another pick inside the 30 and a muffed punt 2 feet from the sidelines will never win any games. hell if we could have put up FG's at the least on the board with all the turnovers we had deep in the Saints territory we would have had another 9 points and the entire game would have played out differently.

If im not mistaken we had a chance to go up 1 with a FG in the 4th but instead threw a pick on THIRD down. Then the muffed punt, and field goal we gave up. Instead of trying to march down the field to take the lead, we had to make a goal line stand, take the ball the length of the field, score a TD and convert on the 2pt conversion just to tie. We make things MUCH harder than they need to be. We simply can not turn the ball over like @*%*@!# morons. I can understand a pick when trying to make a big play, or fumbling because you got lit up, but not ones that bounce off our hand into the opponents.

Not one where we are being careless with the ball and not wrapping it up tightly inside the red zone (multiple times).

Not one where you hike the ball 10 feet over Alex's head and 20 yards of distance into the back of the end zone for a safety.

And DEFINITELY not muff a punt late in the 4th quarter of a tight game after your defense just worked their *%#** off to get that ball back.

I hate to even bring it up, but Goldson really has to turn his head and know where the ball is on that last reception to Brees' favorite target Colston..

I'm not saying we played a terrible game by any means, but when we have the opportunity (we had multiple) to put a game away, or put ourselves in a position to win we have got to take advantage of it.

We've had that same problem for years now and we need to tweak a few things and be smarter if we want to take that next step and make it to the post season.

Credit to our D who made a HUGE goal line stand there at the end to keep us in it, and even though we didnt create any turnovers nor get too much pressure on Brees, we did play a pretty damn good defensive game.

Our offense showed flashes of brilliance throughout the game, especially in that last drive, but we gotta do that consistently. We have some pretty damn good weapons on O and we need to take advantage of that and not waste possessions.

What's wrong with Ted Ginn? Why isn't he returning punts? Isn't that the reason the Niners traded for him?

Good luck to you guys at KC, that stadium is a tough place to play. I'm a Chargers fan so hopefully ya'll do us a favor and beat the Chiefs and we return the favor by beating Seattle.

One thing I forgot to mention. Michael Crabtree.

This dude needs to grow the +++! up. He sits out all of the preseason and now he looks like a lost little puppy out there. Sure he had one huge play yesterday. But he was pretty much a ghost for the entire game. He was called Derrius Heyward-Crabtree in the postgame wrap. It disgusts me. Then he goes and celebrates on his one catch of the game? Come on son. You have 3 total catches in 2 games. Stop acting like you are one of the best in the league.

This fool needs to step up. Period.

Smith said he no trouble understanding the calls and getting them radioed to him in time. There was one delay-of-game penalty against the 49ers, late in the third quarter, but it had nothing to do with communications: Tight end Vernon Davis was late getting on the field following a kickoff.

"The buckle came loose on my helmet," he said. "I had to get my helmet adjusted."

Smith said he thought Davis might have anticipated a TV timeout that didn't come. He called it "a freak thing."

Like I said, the problems w/ the 9ers last night were all on the field. You can't blame coaches for the turnovers that falls on the players Smith, Gore, Walker, and Adams.

IDK but thats on Smith also, he was only targeted 3 times in the game.  All of Smiths passes were short, checkdown passes besides like 3 or 4 of them.  Not sure how open crabtree was though on plays he wasnt thrown to though.  You gotta get the ball in your playmakers hands, so I dont know why he isnt being used so much in this early season with training camp under the belt like he was used last yr without camp.

this too?
they had to take a timeout b/c they only had 10 men on the field. AND this came right after the saints took their timeout. How do u have all that dead time to set a play and fail to get ready still?

we can go back and forth all day. However, the point is, there's definitely room for improvement and mistakes like these should not continue to happen.

anyways

-niners need to get westbrook more involved. Seeing how Alex loves the checkdowns, that would be perfect for westbrook. Better yet, have gore and westbrook back there for passing situations would be money.
-Haralson needs to get demoted. His job is to be a pass rusher and he's not doing it. The closest he got to brees resulted in a roughing the passer. Brooks?? LaBoy??
