Musically, him and the people around him are literally changing the face of rap as they go. For better or worse, Wayne has become an iconoclast, something we all know would never have happened with his C1, C2, Hot Boyz style of rap. Jay said it best...you want his old stuff buy his old albums. I'd much rather be seen as music idol by the people that matter than keeping it real for a bunch of nobodies. So many brilliant artists fly under the radar their whole career and for what? Give me the fame and fortune, #$@! ya'll opinions.
Lol

Difference is, Jay has come out with some tracks that can stay in rotations. Wayne on the other hand....

All IMO of course
So you're gonna tell me that from a general standpoint, Wayne hasn't had at least SOME tracks that can stay in rotation? All his music after C2 was unplayable? If not, then why make that Jay comparison. Most will agree that Jay's flow is not the same as his pre-BP/BP2 days. Hell, dude even said it himself. If everybody wanted to hear deep, cerebral rap then the face of mainstream hip-hop would look completely different. I just know most of ya'll wouldn't last 30 seconds as A&R at a major label. And the ones that would, would be out looking for the next Soulja Boy, not Kendrick Lamar.
you can switch up your style and still make quality music

look at Andre 3000

ATLiens was
pimp.gif

Then he switched up his whole style like Wayne on The Love Below and that was a classic
pimp.gif

He still was deep! He still was that ATLien just a little more in left field

Cant say that for C4

But I think we can all agree that ATLiens >>>>> The Love Below. Hey Ya and Roses were great songs but would I call them classics? Not really. The same goes for Wayne. C2/early Droughts>>>>*, but in that span he has made some quality songs, even some classics. And lets not forget, in terms of music, Lil Wayne is a bigger name than 3K so obviously he did something right by switching his flow.

It's only a few days until Lil Wayne releases Tha Carter IV, but he's already setting new records. Weezy's latest single, "She Will," lands with a bang at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week, his highest debut ever on the chart.

"She Will," which features Weezy's Young Money protégé Drake on its chorus, is the album's fourth single to make the top 100, after "6 Foot, 7 Foot" featuring Cory Gunz, "John" featuring Rick Ross and "How to Love." According to Billboard, "She Will" is Wayne's fifth top 10 debut on the chart, placing him ahead of Kanye West and Eminem. The song also debuted at #1 on the Billboard Digital Songs chart and is now at #17 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Song chart.

Watch Lil Wayne recording "She Will" in the studio.

Lil Tunechi is ramping up the momentum for his ninth album at an ideal time. In an unprecedented move, Tha Carter IV will be available Sunday night at midnight, right after the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, where he is set to perform.

"We've been brainstorming and taking from things that we put together on the road, so I think they can just expect a new and improved Wayne, a different Wayne," Wayne's musical director Gil Smith told MTV News of the VMA set. "You know, he always comes different: One day he's a rock star, one day he's a skater; he's singing R&B. I think we can expect a little bit of everything in this performance."

The video for his hit rap ballad "How to Love" just premiered online and the song currently sits on the Hot 100 chart at #8.

On Wednesday, a song from the album called "It's Good," featuring Jadakiss and Drake, leaked online. It features Weezy lobbing a dis towards Jay-Z with the line "Kidnap your %!!+%, get that how much you love your lady money," which clearly refers to Beyoncé. A possible war of words with Hova will surely spark more interest in Tha Carter IV.

Perhaps Weezy's only stumble lately was a skateboarding accident over the weekend that left him with a gash over his eye that required nine stitches.

I'll be eating my popcorn and keeping an eye on this thread when it's revealed that Wayne will do more numbers than WTT first week, with the influx of Jay and Ye fans coming in here to bash the album even more, shake their head at today's state of rap fans/teeny boppers, and make excuses how WTT was an iTunes only release out the gate and that might have played a part in it. ....after
pimp.gif

the move, commending how it didn't leak the joint to the net. Can't forget the good ol' 'record sales means nothing in terms of quality' (It doesn't, but it's all jokes when a dude like Wale goes triple wood first week)

I haven't played WTT in two weeks, though. No replay value to me.
