OG Sneakerheads vs Noobs

OG heads don't do raffles..

So true.

Walked through my local mall last night with my girl, saw a line at the HOH for a raffle.

She asked me "Are you going to get in line babe?"

I looked at her like

If I can't get the shoe FCFS, or online, then i ain't worth it to me. I'll pay resell for some, but **** all that jazz. You'd never catch me in a line for the OPPORTUNITY to MAYBE get some shoes.

Lol but yo standing in line used to be mad fun man... That used to be the highlight... Seeing all my Detroit players up early 6 am with cazal frames and wissam leathers lined up, chilled out talking with the rest of us. You see the one or two out of place cats and you know they about to have a bad time walking out the mall....

The raffle thing destroyed that... You have 12 yr old kids copping 5 pairs on release day. Come on bro you think these kids could have done that had they had to line up at their local store ?

I aint gonna say I gave up shoes completely but I gave up jordans 100%. Haven't bought a pair since like 08 and don't plan on it either. I have lost love for sneakers recently and haven't copped any since python kobe viii and area 72 kd.

What kills me about these new shoe buyers is their only buying it for fashion. Strictly, fashion.

Meanwhile, I couldn't wait to rock the latest Jordan sneaker and retro's to ball with on court. We wanted to be just like Jordan lol. We wore the things he wore around the same time in attempt to be like him.

I put this on everything, me and my crew back than were 15, 16 years old buying sneakers to wear to our CYO and middle school basketball games because that's what these shoes were for? We'd wear them on the court, take them off after the game and wait until the next one to wear them again.

Strictly, for basketball purposes. Yeah, we'd occasionally wear them off the court and stunt but we caught so much attention from people in stands by wearing the latest Jordans at our games.

Hell, my very first picture of myself posted here on NT was in 2001 of me wearing my cool grey 11's playing ball. And I got clowned and flamed for my jeans (I wish someone could find that pic lol)

As time went by though, and I wasn't playing ball anymore or as much, I would wear certain models off-court for nostalgia or reminiscent reasons. It made a fashion statement by default though because they were aesthetically pleasing.

Of course though, this could've been different in your era or time of copping sneakers. But in 2000,2001, 2002 - I was buying shoes to hoop in. I wish these new sneaker buyers were in it for the same reasons; but that would be in a perfect world.
This is true for me. Now that I'm older I don't play ball as much or as seriously as I did when I was younger and even then, I'll use an old beater pair to hoop in. I don't play enough to justify spending money to buy a newer Kobe or LeBron shoe.

How old are u bro

Lol when people say 2005 was "back in the day" or "the easy days". 04-05 was when everything hit the fan

i never understood why ppl wanted jordans when they cant even hit a mid range jumper lol excuse my ignorance but when u rock jordans, i hope u can ball or at least make 3 jumpers in a row. these r JORDANS, he played basketball. if u dont like basketball, u have no business buying these shoes. let someone who loves the game get them, damn.

28 today is my bday actually
Happy bday fam but I swear back in the day it use to be the same ****** at Northland every weekend in a small lil line. I was a young dude but my cousins was always there n eventually every body knew everybody. Now I ride pass and see 50+ lined up outside n the cold and just smh

I'm 28 too, kinda felt that being born in 1985 (the year of the AJ1) we should've been guaranteed pairs lol.

But I'm also sure that older dudes are like I have to stand in line for a raffle ticket, which doesn't guarantee me an actual pair.

Call me what you like(OG or whatever) but ive been grabbing Nikes since i was 9. Just turned 30 this week and can honestly say that GREEDY re-sellers, GREEDY mom and pop shops, GREEDY retail stores,GREEDY corporations(ie.NIKE...they use a lot of psychological tricks to keep us interested) and weirdos who get a kick out of seeing someone struggle for something they want ruined the experience. Today's Bred debacle is a perfect example. Also see Space Jams,Galaxy,Cool greys, Lebron EXT,Yeezys for confirmation that its all screwed up. Im happy i experienced a time when it was so much easier. It actually fuels the desire to spend my money on other kicks from other companies I like.

I completely agree. It's like buying track shoes and can't run. People can be extra lame lol

I hate the fact that when I tell someone I have a genuine appreciation for shoes, they label me a hypebeast. Like my dude, I didn't even say a specific brand of shoe (we all know they're insinuating Jordans), let alone Jordan's aren't even my favorite shoes. I like foamposites, not these new color ways that look like someone threw a variety of pain colors on them, I'm talking about the Dark Neon Royals (what I would do for a pair from 97), the OG "Cough Drops" from 07, who could forget the Eggplants? The only Jordan's that appeal to me are the Columbia's XI, Melo XII, Hare VII, White/French Blue VII, and Pearl/ Pacific Blue VII's.

Son you did not walk out with 12 DMPs lets be serious.
SMH!

Like I need to impress someone up in here ....

and you are correct, I didn't walk out with 12 DMP's.

I walked out with 4 from each location, all in the BX. (4 161 FL, 4 Modells in 3rd Ave. and 4 FL 3rd Ave).

the difference to me is, back in the day i couldnt wait to wear my shoes. id wear them out of the shoe store

now everyone is buying the "new hotness" for e-cred, keeping them 'DS" and flooding the market with shoes that just released for over retail.

keep your rainbow bright foams for $250. ill be on the bay coppin old stuff that nobody cares about

Fellas, I'm saying this with the utmost respect...some of you take this hobby WAY too seriously. These are sneakers. Period. I have no more right to them as a 40 year old man than a 12 year old kid who wants them for Christmas. Yes, I remember when obtaining these things was easier. Yes, I remember the days before there were resellers. I also remember when it cost 5 bucks to go to the movies. Those days are long gone. I won a raffle for the gammas. I tried this am for the 1s and failed spectacularly. It's just how it is now. Nike doesn't owe me or you squat. I'm not going to hate on a young man because he aced me out of some shoes. If he beats me with his bot or his mother's money, good for him. Life goes on.

when people buy the new kobes to wear with skinny jeans its a joke imo. theyre gym shoes to me, nothing more.

Exactly.

Am I not considered a sneakerhead since I don't wear the shoes I buy casually? I buy damn near every new performance shoe to put on court

yes lawd...

Cats talking about you can't cop Jordan's if you can't hit a mid range jumper?

Lolwut?

Both of ends of the spectrum are wack...

Old heads are eem wack-er because they think they can set the parameters on who can and can't rock...

F outta here kinfoe...

yup, the first question when a new kobe/lebron/kd shoe comes out should always be, how does it hold up on the court

then we can talk about whether it looks good or not

unrelated but it seems like OGs tend to go for the classic look while kids these days just want shoes to stand out, sucks to go to a footlocker and see 70% of kobes and lebrons in fruity colors

Can I wear Jordan's? I was more of a defensive specialist

That argument is so stupid
laugh.gif
nah dude you need to stick to the gloves

You 2nd gen buyers have no idea how easy it was to buy a pair of Nike Air Jordans.
Demand was high, but supply from Nike, Inc. was higher. Not only did you have Athlete's Foot, Footlocker, and Champs with multiple size runs, but all of the anchor stores like JC Penny, Castner Knotts/Macys, ect. had much more. The current year's model would stay on shelves months into the next years release. You would see a shoe, put it in layaway, and cut lawns for six months to save the money to finally buy them out.
I wish that we could hop in the DeLoreon and drive back to that era.
