Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

No shame with the BFG title.:{

What do you mean? The movie has the title of the books it's based on, which has been around for close to 40 years.

What am I missing?

I'd say the connotation is inappropriate then and now, which is why I say no shame.

Though I wasn't aware it was written 40 years ago, I look at it and subconsciously I'm saying to myself Big F'ing Giant.

The connotation just seems off for a kids movie.

It'd be like if Disney or Pixar or whoever wanted to make a film about a sacred acacia tree that had magical powers and named the movie The Holy ****tah, just seems odd to me

Feels like I haven't posted as often but I hope to be more active and regular..

I've had my time occupied by my very awesome girlfriend the last few months.. as well as the promotion I just got at work. It's pretty legit. Huge bump in salary and benefits as well and it's been a long time coming with the amount of work I've put in

Just wanted to share with the movie fam.
Congrats, fam! Flourish!

The girl is definitely taking away some nT time. But I also wish I had a desk job sometimes so I can get paid to be on here haha

Yeah, it really puts a cramp in my style

I usually have to wait until I get a break or use the bathroom to jump on NT at work.

A desk job is where it's at. I'm on NT more at work than at home lol

Same here. Ever since I discovered private browsing on Firefox, and also had my desk moved to a corner out of sight out of mind, I'm on NT 95% of the day :lol .

Your IT dept still sees what traffic rolls through and where you browse though, no?

Anyways, congrats Big J. Getting paid, getting laid :hat :hat :hat

I know that our IT department can look at everyone's browsing history, etc., but I don't think they really say/do anything unless people are trying to check out pron or downloading a bunch of unnecessary **** off the net. I think that's probably true of most companies. Been checking NT from work for years and never have been asked about it.

For sure. I'm just paranoid about browsing anything outside of like news sites and finance sites. I mean, our damb firewalls block about 95% of the internet.

Man I give no damns about the IT department. As long as you not on porn sites you good. I'll be watching anime on the computer at work, no damns given :lol

We don't even have an IT department. Small office and company (wholesale/eCommerce) in general so my boss is just your regular guy.

OK. I see where you're coming from. Maybe since I read the book when I was a kid, it never occurred to me that other people would assume the "F" stood for *******. I suppose that's possible. Kind of sad though if we really are at the point that the majority of people are thinking **** anytime they see an "F" in something.

:rollin @ big ******* giant.

That's just ya brain wired for profanity when it comes to acronyms from being online too long :lol

And my initial thoughts of BFG was from Doom "Big F----ing Gun"

and for the older generation.... the original

Just watched The Lobster

Really strange movie but kept my attention throughout. It was super funny in a very subtle way. I wouldn't say any of the performances were great because the story asks for robot like emotions from everyone.

Actually I take that back. John C. Reily had to talk with a lisp which was :rollin :rollin :rollin. I was pretty much cracking up laughing throughout.

On a more serious note
I thought it was pretty interesting how they played on the whole animal theme, literally and metaphorically. The way that the humans interacted with each other REALLY reminded me of watching like animal planet or something. It was like watching penguins bumble around and not having any idea how they find a mate in the wild. I'm assuming that was the intention with the film, to draw parallels between the "civilized" human world interactions and the "wild" animal world. I haven't read up on this movie yet but I bet there are some cool theories out there.

Personally, I give it a 7/8 for the creative story, the well known actors, and the insanely good cinematography. But I could totally see how a person could hate this type of movie and consider it boring/confusing. It's def out there but I recommend giving it a try.
