Insomnia 7.3/8

Great movie. Pacino and Robin Williams have some absolute classic scenes, particularly the one on the ferry. Come to think of it, this was right around the time One Hour Photo came out. Williams plays a great creep.

The Wizard of Lies - 5.7 / 8.

Classic De Niro performance. Nothing extraordinary imo, just extra solid.

Michelle was great, tho.

I enjoyed the nonlinear approach to the narrative & the chaotic editing.

Madoff was a soulless cat according to the people behind this movie. It made it seem like torture for that family & damn at what happened to the brothers. Had no idea. Also had no idea that this movie has been in works since 2011 (when De Niro bought the rights to this script).

Really, really liked the build-up to that final scene/ close-up shot. That shot there is a glimpse into DeNiro's greatness.

alien covenant 7.5/10
excellent sequel but slightly repetitive from prometheus

baywatch 7/10
pretty typical cop like flick but enjoyable partially because it's so reminiscent of typical cop flicks

pirates , no tales 8/10
if I remember the last one this definitely picked up better than the last and earns additional points for a proper finale to the franchise.

They've been playing The Godfather movies on amc. Forgot how fine Michael's Italian wife was.

Damn. I seen fences. Scumbag Zel :{

But man zel and Viola killed it. I liked affleck winning the Oscar, but I'll be damned if I didn't enjoy Zela performance more.

Viola a damn chameleon.

Hacksaw Ridge - 6.9/8

I'm a sucker for war movies, and this was fantastic. First hour was a little slow, but the last hour REALLY made up for it. Some of the best and most graphic battle scenes I've ever seen in war movie. Andrew Garfield had a strong performance as Desmond Doss. WHat I liked the most was seeing how some of his platoon-mates ended up having nothing but respect for him and his convictions. I wonder how much of the movie stayed true to the actual story, but all in all, the movie was great.

I don't think it is very accurate, personally.I read the opposite is true and it is said to be very accurate. The true Doss has now passed away so he will never get to see and tell us himself how true it is.His son said that there were always folks coming by the house when he was little wanting to tell the Story and he said his Father would turn them down out of fear it would be portrayed inaccurately. That was his only requirement for the film to be made, and nobody that wanted to tell the story would adhere to that requirement so he never let them tell it.His son went on to say Mel's telling is completely accurate and well done. All that tells me is Jr. probably wasn't as strict as Sr. in how the story was told and decided to take the check and allow Hollywood to go to work.

You're probably right...still was a great flick, tho.

Before the credits rolled, there was a clip of Doss and one of his platoon guys. Doss was going over the prayer(s) he was saying and the platoon guy was so indebted to him for saving his life.

Logan is a 5.5/8. Ending saved it from being a 4
Lego Batman was a 7.5/8 top three Batman movie.

Wait, what?

I completely disagree.. the ending is what killed it for me.. well shouldn't say killed it, but what knocked it down for me

Movie should have been 'nebraska' but I don't think the ending delivered on the build up of the movie.. better than the wolverine, but same issue closing

Checked a few boxes this weekend...

Trespass Against Us - 5/8 - I really like Fassbender and Gleason but the movie misses on the family mark for me. It was like a more serious Snatch but without the character building or the real impact of consequences.

The Monster - 4/8 - A weird take on the classic monster movie. They try some interesting things but fail in my opinion. The child actor came off more annoying than anything.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Me Tell No Tales - 3.5/8 - They need to stop. It's the same thing on repeat with ridiculous stunts that don't make any sense. They're grasping at straws for "Sea Legends" to try to keep people interested. Retire Jack Sparrow and move on.

I had never seen Cape Fear until this weekend, and even more so, I had no idea it was Scorsese.

DeNiro was great, and creepy as ****, but by the end they had dude like Michael Meyers or some ****, he just kept comin back. :lol

I liked it, and it probably was better in 91 but for now I'd say easy 6-6.5/8.

Weird seein when Nolte actually was somebody that mattered in Hollywood.

I agree with that score for Cape Fear and also with the "invincible" factor. Didn't dude get beats with chains and bats in an alley and make a Rocky Balboa-ish recovery?

Word, dude got the brakes beat off him and flipped the script somehow. It's crazy how buff deniro was in this and Taxi.

Side note: the original Cape Fear is extremely good as well. Check it out if you haven't seen it. It holds up well
