Championships do matter, the game is 5 on 5. If you are a great player you win, period, no ifs ands or buts about it. To paraphrase what was said on PTI this week, "It's not football with 22 players out there, it is a team of 5."
Saying a player needs rings to be in the discussion just makes you look dumb. If somebody asked you if Chris Paul is a better point guard than Derek Fisher, would you say Chris Paul is not even in the discussion? If Chris Bosh gets a ring this year, is he automatically better than Karl Malone? Is Karl Malone not even in the discussion?
LeBron has already easily surpassed Kobe. He's nowhere near MJ, but Kobe is the one who is not even in the discussion. Kobe is a lesser player who has been a part of great teams. Both Luke Walton and Sasha Vujacic have 2 rings. Is LeBron "out of the discussion" with them?

Don't kid yourself, LeBron IS going to get the rings, but that's not what makes him a great player. That is a result of being a member of a great team.

False.
To paraphrase what was said on PTI this week, "It's not football with 22 players out there, it is a team of 5."
And it's still a team sport. Just because one player can help your team more in basketball (by virtue of less players on the field/court) doesn't make him more important than the team. Better whole teams win in this sport, just like in other team sports.
Don't kid yourself, LeBron IS going to get the rings, but that's not what makes him a great player. That is a result of being a member of a great team.
You could replace LeBron with any other great player's name and the above quote is still true.

QFT Kobe couldn't even beat my suns in the first round a handful of years back why you ask? Because he had nobody around him!! You cannot argue the fact that there is a direct correlation between Gasol's arrival and the rejuvenation of the Lakers in the playoffs.

Again, he was named the Chosen One By The Media who was ever so desperately in need of a replacement for Mike. He might have adopted the name, but the King and the Chosen One, that is all Media talk. Don't get mad at him for that.

And again, it is crazy to use the, "He isn't as much of a man since he teammed up with folks." Everyone has someone else. Mike and Magic already had those people on their team, LeBron left to get the same thing. Why are those situations that much different? They aren't.

So again, so what if he is playing with another great player and a very good player. Jordan NEEDED another hall of famer for his 6 rings, and another hall of famer for 3 of those. Nobody questions him though? So unfair. SO unfair.
If that's how you classify not winning, then Jordan wasn't winning for six seasons either and he didn't leave his team. The first 7 seasons of MJ's career vs LBJ's, has LBJ with 27 more regular season wins overall. Chicago's playoffs went in this order: 1R, 1R, 1R, 2R, ECF, ECF, Championship. Cavs? No playoffs, No playoffs, 2R, Finals, 2R, ECF, 2R. So, who really wasn't winning?

The Cavs were only knocked out of the playoffs by the Celtics twice (the same amount as MJ BTW), so it's not like they were in his way for the past five years and it was just too much for him. Why are we having a pity party for him?

If LeBron has a TATTOO that states "Chosen 1" and acts that way, why can't that be held against him??? Doesn't he have a "King" tat too? It's not like dude is humble and tried to avoid being hailed as those things. It was his choice to be on the cover of SI at 17; his choice on the tattoo -- some of this could've been put to a stop by him.

Teaming up with those guys by chance and by choice are two different things. LBJ teamed up by choice. There would be no issues if Bosh and/or Wade were drafted by Cleveland (or even if one was drafted and the other signed or traded for). You can't hold someone to something that happens by chance -- which is what Jordan had ...

Edit: Now this stat may be cast aside since the NBA changed the playoff format, but LBJ has more playoff wins that MJ as well (first seven seasons) ...

We have a winner!

I'm glad we still have some people with sense on NT.  It's all these kids who probably never seen Jordan play and hate on Kobe and come up with every excuse to make him seem like a Mookie Blaylock level of player.

Go watch:  Come Fly With Me, Playground, Air Time, Jordan Imax, and whatever ones I missed and get some game DVD's offline.  Go learn something go learn about the past and how skilled players were even before Jordan then you will know cats today are SOFT.  Yeah I said it every player in the league BUT the ones who came from the mid 90's era that play 80's and 90's style of ball are SOFT.  You know who those few who are left are I don't have to name them and guess what, they the ones with the RINGS.

I got game tape where Jordans starting center looked like he belonged on Wall Street.  Dude has Paxon only to rely on for his first few years even when Pippen got there.  Pippen was HOT GARBAGE when he first came in for like 3-4 years.  MJ schooled him and made him what he was so the disrespect Pippen showed by saying this garbage is TOM FOOLERY.

First off let me say im a MJ fan I grew up watching him, with that said Pippen earned the right to his opinion he played by micheal jordan for years and was vital to his greatness. I believe what pippen was trying to say was Jordan was great but what he sees in lebron is something different, he sees the same MJ qualities and more. Lebron is unselfish at times for the better of his team something MJ and Kobe conflict with. He practice with MJ seen his weaknesses and his strenghts, he followed the heat vs. bulls serious seen Lebron strengths and weaknesses and was more impressed with Lebron. Just like I heard over years tons of people say Kobe was going to be better than MJ but I guess LBJ is hated right now so.........

Can't quote from my phone. Onion Slice, all the players you mentioned will never be in the discussion of the single greatest player ever. (Bosh, CP, Malone). No player without rings can enter the discussion
