If you doesn't understand the Transgender community, think of it like Goldeen evolving into Seaking; yes, they could've stayed as they were, but the real them needed to evolve into what they were inside.

Just flipped a 689 Growlithe into a 1496 Arcanine. My highest CP mon at this juncture.
almost level 20.
