Unless you have a pristine, low mileage E46 M3, the cost of maintenance over a "few" years will far outweigh any potential appreciation. They are ridiculously expensive cars to maintain, and frankly I struggle to see any value proposition in terms of owning one. And I'm by no means an M3 hater (except the new ones--they are complete garbage).

Most are basic 35s... the V-8 is kinda cool but still a car based suv that is littered on the highway.

Yes the M5 is the exception and ultra rare. There was a time the X5 was dope. Today it’s just a meh soccer mom vehicle. Mind you it’s not a bad vehicle at all.
