Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Hadn’t seen a Source mag in years and this is what I’ve been missing

"Critically acclaimed"

I don't know about all that, seems like he hates media obligations, just think he wants his skills/music to be recognized like his more respected peers.

Maybe the media was an obligation when Wale first started 10 years ago, but it's not now.

People already have him labeled and dismiss his music, because they don't like him.

Wale had a few missteps in the beginning of his career with Interscope which negatively effected his perception in the marketplace. But I feel like the most detrimental thing is his personality in interviews and on social media. He's become the woe is me guy, nobody wants to be around that guy, much less voluntarily listen to him.

One of the main thing is he turned off a lot of female fans early and they're the ride or die fans

His female fans don't become as big as they should be.

That Nav quote that was posted in here made it seem like he just wanted to be famous in general and get followed by TMZ. I don't think Wale wants that

Let me clear up me saying anything like he wants to be followed by TMZ, I'm saying Wale wants that pat on the back and praise the same way Nav wants that paparazzi following and recognition.
Wale is missing the wave of feeding his fanbase and making a living from that. K.R.I.T. is a perfect example of somebody who isn't often championed in the mainstream but continues to feed his base without whining and is hailed as one of the better artist putting music out

This. JCole didn’t help by putting him on blast in a song :rollin and that’s supposed to be his “boy” too

I don’t think wale not eating. He making his bread doing just fine. Ain’t nothing wrong w/ wanting more fame and recognition/respect he just going about it the wrong way.

Crying in interviews and on social media = no no

Just rap about it in your songs. Hell, do some publicity **** like da baby and the rest of em. Whatever you gotta do but don’t sound like the hating bum. Bruh was sitting up there crying on the radio talking about its cuz I’m dark skin :sick::smh:

Naw it ain't about being washed, not for me anyway. I just legit wonder what the younger dudes like about some of these newer artist. I don't hate though (at least not most of time), it's just funny because I remember my pops trashing me for being a huge No Limit and Cash Money fan

I'm not one of those "I listen to 90s only" people; there's music from every era that I like. But damn, how is it "being washed" to ask these new rappers to just have a flow and be comprehensible?

I mean...I used to clown on Mike Jones in the early 2000s, but when my boys and I played one of his songs recently as a joke, we ended up talking about "At least artists like this put in SOME effort back then!"

A lot of these new clone artists resemble the rambling fiends I avoid eye contact with every time I'm forced to take public transportation

I think some of y’all are HIGHLY generalizing “new rappers”. Yes, more than before...there are “clone rappers” that just try to copy and social media their ways through with no talent and no effort. However, The ones that cut through, and stand out...for the most part, bring something to the table and are uniquely talented and have more than we see on the surface. Hell, I even do it at times. That Polo G project is my favorite right now. I didn’t give him a chance initially because for some reason, I thought he was a plant or something entirely different than what he represents. Then I actually...you know LISTENED and stripped away my pre convinced notions. We’re kind of preconditioned to front on some of these lil *****s. But a lot of them are talented and far from the “clones” y’all paint them out to be.

Most the ones I listed a page or two back (save for Keed and Gottit...really bring something pretty fresh to the table that will last. But even with Keed and them...they came up directly under Thug...and are proud of that influence etc.

I think we just see rappers who look similar...then just slap a label on them after listening to 45 secs and file it in the “new *****s” I’m not going to give a chance too.

I’ve heard you of all people constantly praising trash and break it down like there’s a skill there. You dead wrong and you love garbage.

Not listening to an artist called No Cap. Doesn’t get more unoriginal than that.

And I’ve played a lot of **** you’ve asked me to play, you shooting 0%
