Here is my first run. Three weeks to the half marathon.

Hi guys I decided to ask the pros here

Me and my girl are expecting our second child, and earlier this year (before we found out she was pregnant) she decided to run the Nike women's half marathon in SF. A couple of weeks back her doctor advised her not to run it just because she will be in her first trimester and that would be high risk.

So here I am, I get thrown into the mix, I will be running it for her. None of my cousins know about her being pregnant, also I'm just going to secretly jump into the starting line and we will surprise everyone. (FML Though Ferreal).

The marathon is October 18. Since the birth of my first son I let myself go and I'm in no shape at all to run long distances at all.

My questions

1. How can I better prepare myself? ( I started to 1 mile runs since last week)

2. Any recommendations on any gear?

3. Breathing patterns/exercises & conditioning

4. Any routines I should try out?

5. Prayers?

any help will be appreciated. Thanks again.

I will be running that race too, there wont be many of us guys :lol

Good luck if you are just trying to get ready now. The course is suppose to be pretty tough

MAN, mile 11 (?) up Lincoln is going to be INTENSE. I remember running DOWN it in the SFM full. Running up it is a different BEAST though!

If I log at least 80mi this month (5mi away), I'll have to log ~66mi per month for the remainder of the year to hit 1,000mi. I think I'm in very good shape to do so! :smokin

I was curious to see the course for the Nike Women's Half and wow. Props to those who complete it.

Also, I'll be at RnR SJ this weekend for the 10K.

Keep up the hard work everyone!

I've been running on pavement a lot so I decided to join a trail run up a mountain. It was a 10k run and elevation was from 200m to 600m, took me a good 1 hour 40 mins. Trail running is another beast, it actually felt better running up the mountain then coming down. Running down hill kills your shins and knees.

It rained a few days before so the terrain was pretty slick, had to jump on rocks to cross a few creeks. Some downhill parts I was taking baby steps to avoid slipping, while these other runners were just jamming down the hill like it was nothing. I slipped on this one part, you know the embarrassing slip where both feet are in the air and you land on your ***. Yeah, that was me and I ended up spraining my wrist trying to stop that fall.

Don't run with your best pair of shoes for these trail run, at the end of the day my shoes look like they went through the mud run.

i'm on travel and the city i'm in is not very conducive to running

i did 17mi on a treadmill yesterday :x

Any socks you guys recommend with enough cushion?

I usually wear the Nike half cushioned no shows or crews.

I've logged 90.5mi for the month and 810.5mi for the year so far. I think I could definitely hit +100mi for the third consecutive month by the end of September. How's everyone's month looking?

only at 36 so far this month [emoji]128553[/emoji] but i play a lot of full court basketball and do the stationary bike or elliptical on non running days. I need to use one of those other Nike apps to keep track of the Nike Fuel I'm using up.

Passed 100 miles tonight.  First 8 mile run in a while where I kept the pace under 8 minutes.  Odd, because I was wiped out from work today, haha.

Nice job on that trail run!

119 miles so far, my best month in a while. And just as I'm getting more consistent, I need a surgery that's going to put me down for a few weeks [emoji]128545[/emoji]

Anyone run in their Lunar Eclipses tonight??? [emoji]128521[/emoji]

Hey guys. Long time lurker in this thread and I decided to finally post something. This past weekend I ran the Bronx 10 mile and I felt amazing. Initially I thought I would have to stop around the 5 mile marker and rest but surprisingly I only stopped once and that was at mile 9! I couldn't believe it. I've only been taking running seriously over the past year or so but I was really proud of my over all pace. The splits were all over the place though haha
Ps. I need friends on nikeplus and ig

Nice!

After this morning, I'm (unintentionally) at 111.11 miles for the month.  I kind of want to keep that, but I know I need to run tomorrow for the race this weekend.  Plus, I have an outside shot of joining Ray in the 1000 mile club for the year.

Wrapped up September with 114mi in 17 runs.

Now, I need to log 166mi (~55.33mi for each of the following three months) by the end of the year to hit 1,000mi. :smokin

How about you all?

Also, any ideas for October's #NTrunningChallenge? 8o

Ended at 117 on the dot.

Just under 725 for the year, so if I can average about 90 a month the rest of the year, I can hit 1000.  October will be easy to hit 100 again, but who knows what November and December will bring.  But, since I'm running a half just after the new year, I should have a realistic chance.

Hit 140 miles this month

:lol for some reason I thought yesterday was the last day of the month. Training program called for another 5 miles today.

After the half marathon I'm going to decrease my runs. And do more lifting

Big numbers from some of you all last month. Keep your feet the ground. Wish I could be out there running in the wind too. I'm 10 weeks in on a 12 week grion pull and hamstring recovery. Still not able to run even though I've tried. Keep up the good runs and be safe out there...

Just ran a 5K for HERS Breast Cancer Foundation in Fremont for my mom last weekend. Paid an extra $5 for a dri fit runner tee that I've already used multiple times since. Will definitely wear it more this month.

Nice! I'm looking forward to all the contributions in the feed! :smokin

The Garmin Forerunner 225 is tempting, as it has the built-in HR monitor that I'm looking for. However, I LOVE the display and customization on the Vivoactive... #indecision

I am going to get a Vivoactive soon. Perfect watch for me since I would be able to use it for Golf and Cycling as well.
