Martin would be a member of the military forces that is combat ready.

Of course the level of "ready" is not going to be constant across the board for either side but I'd have to assume that the majority of the armed forces are trained decently while the majority of the public would be self taught.

May be I'm over simplifying it but I liken it to comparing somebody who picked up playing a sport compared to somebody who trains people in the sport.

I say this from experience, a lot of these cats aren't cut out like they portray them to be in the media.

I would take the self taught person probably 9/10 with a firearm because they have a genuine desire to learn. Like i said most of the cats in the military aren't looking to hurt anyone. It's a means to an end to secure financial stability.

The military is also a numbers game and very political. It looks bad when a commander has certain percentage of people who don't pass training requirements, especially when they're jockeying for promotion. Due to this, you see a lot of people pushed through certain situations where they probably shouldn't be.

You factor all that it in, and the wizard behind the curtain becomes less oppressive and ruthless then thought to be.

People say you can't just give up on a solution to gun violence/regulation, but bring up fighting back against hostile tyrannous govt and it's "oh no that ain't gonna work".

If it ever came to fighting the government, you think that you could just organize a gun battle against the government and duke it out like in the olden days?

You do know that we live in an age where the government has all kinds of weapons that can kill you, while they themselves are physically far away from you, right? Even guerrilla warfare tactics are obsolete when you can't actually get to your target, because the target is not there.

Meanwhile, all you have are weapons that would be useless in an all-out war against the government, but are pretty useful if you want to kill dozens of random innocent people.
