STAY/GET BACK IN SHAPE VOL 3.0 -- A New Niketalk = A New Thread

My problem is on the left side too.

How long did you get back to lifting?

..

I just don't understand how I could've herniated my disc. I lifted on Friday. I felt fine. Saturday, Sunday, I didn't lift. And then the pain started on Monday =/
You might've not herniated your disc. It could be some other nerve problem but the only way to find out is to get that checked immediately. I herniated my disc from deadlifts but the chiropractor said that that wasn't the only thing that could have caused it. When I was 7 years old, I was in a major car accident but luckily came out without a scratch. Everybody thought that I was fine so I didn't take any X-rays. Turns out, over all these years, I had a loose disc in my lower back (potentially from the accident) and anything such as bending over to grab something off the floor could have herniated the disc. I just happened to herniate it from doing deadlifts.

Took me about 3-4 months to get back iirc. During that time I went to the chiropractor since the injury wasn't too serious to the point where I needed surgery. But ever since then, I haven't had any pain/problems in my lower back or left leg. Was expensive, but worth it.

There's no benefit to "stacking" vitamins. They have their independent benefits. If you have trouble sleeping or achieving deep REM sleep, ZMA's are known to assist in that dept. take them before you go to bed. You can take your multi any time during the day.

Ever since classes started, my sleeping schedule has been screwed, and I take ZMA. I'd sleep at 11pm (take 3 pills 1hr prior on empty stomach) then wake up at 1-230 am and not go back to sleep at ALL after that. My room is completely dark so i dont understand why i can't go back to sleep since light disrupts sleeping....this has been going on for the last 2weeks btw since classes started.

Pvc pipe... Srs

QFT... and it's cheaper

PVC pipe is a great option but might be too firm for someone just starting to roll out if it's gonna be new to him. I have a PVC pipe but I want to see how that new hyperice vibrating foam roller reviews.

Sounds like some sort of sciatica. Often associated with herniated discs. Just speaking from my experience. Go see the doc and let them tell you what they think, preferably a PT or specialist too.. Seems like regular docs knowledge on stuff like this is limited in my experience.

sciatica is the worst...I used to get it all the time.  I switched from conventional DL to sumo, and it never returned.  Not sure how that make sense...

Thanks for the input guys. Yea, everything I've been reading online leads me to think it might be possible herniation. The earliest I'd be able to see a doctor is next Thursday or Wednesday, if I can get the time off.

My research also tells me that even if it's a herniated disc, it's not the end of the world. The idea of it is scary but it seems most herniated discs are resolved without surgery in 6 weeks.

So I'm a little happier now.

No lifting or strenuous activity until you see the Doc bro

Take that week off from the gym

If it is herniated and you push it, it won't just resolve itself. Take that time off the last thing you want is to need surgery to fix it. Trust me.

it depends on the severity whether or not it'll heal by itself.

i was stupid, didn't realize it was a herniated disc until a month in. Did some chiro work and continued to squat and deadlift DESPITE doctor's orders. BAD IDEA.

this was back in March last year...i JUST started to deadlift again (75lbs) and light front barbell squat/goblet squats. I tried doing barbell squats, but i don't trust my lower back enough.

I still have pain in the morning and the sciatica on my left leg kills.

somehow, my lower back feels stronger and looser whenever I deadlift though..so i'll probably increase the weight very slowly.

my advice: stop lifting. take NSAIDS to fight the inflammation, go to a chiro ASAP and get an MRI. go through with therapy and stretches at home.

i had a herniated disc that eventually needed surgery...went through all the steps (physical therapy, oral steroid, injections, and finally surgery)...recovery was about 2-3 weeks

seriously not worth the risk of further injury

2-3 weeks? Word?

I had surgery for 3 herniated discs in my lumbar. Severe sciatica and really just hurt my overall life. Surgery was dec19. I won't start physical therapy till feb 2. I hope my recovery goes well. I still get some nerve pain and my lower back is always sore.

Doubt I'll ever be pain free :(

i should clarify, i meant recovery was 2-3 weeks of being off my feet...i was in the hospital for 4 days, followed by bed rest at home for another 2 weeks...

full on recovery, back to normal everyday life, was about 2-3 months...

my surgery was 9 years ago, and I've relatively fine, but i have had two slipped discs since then, but they did go away on their own (well one with medication)...ive stopped trying to lift very heavy as a result, it sucks but i don't want to deal with any potential issues...

I hurt my lower back bad last year about this time. It lasted for weeks. I then got the flu and was passed out for a week literally. When I got better my back pain was gone. It's back now :{

In terms of severity, it's not that bad. I've been working out every day this week. In fact, I feel better during and right after a workout as opposed to the rest of my day.

But so many of you guys are scaring me, that I'm going to get rid of any deadlift and clean work. But I still want to do cardio and any other kind of work that won't tax the back.

I'm looking for doctors right now at work. I think I know who to pick, but the office is closed now.

It's just crazy how randomly the pain came. I worked out on Friday and felt completely fine. Saturday, Sunday, didn't work out and I was good. I didn't work out Monday cuz I was sleepy from pulling off a 16 hour shift. Came in to work on Monday and bam, the pain just hit me when I was walking :x

Na. It's really weird. I can bend down and touch my toes just fine. For most of the day, it's just a general throbbing pain, right in my left *** - which I can ignore just fine

Some tightness in my lower back but I wouldn't call it pain.

But then at unpredictable times, I'll have a flare up of pain that radiates from my *** area, I'll feel it down my leg and in my hip and a little bit in my back - and then it goes away. I can't predict when it'll happen - the flare ups seem ******* random

Just be mindful that a lot of things tax the back. Running, jumping, squats. All rough on the lower back.

From the looks of that MRI that herniation is not likely ever healing by itself. Mine wasn't nearly as bad and it was the worst experience ever so I ended up having a microdiscetomy. I couldnt imagine the sciatica forever. I'd consider surgery if you're always in pain, it's not that invasive anymore. Just sayin.

^^ yeah, i figured that much.

I'm trying to not go through surgery or prolong it as much as i can since the pain is bearable. The only time the sciatica flares up is when i first get up during the day..and whenever i sit after standing too long or stand after sitting too long.

stretches in the morning and night has been helping and also the light deadlifts seem to make my back looser.

only thing that bums me out is not being able to lift heavier and also unable to wrestle.
