I feel you.

In terms of the actual SPORT though, what can be done to make it more interesting for the non-fans? (If that is even possible)
I think it's tough. You mentioned how slow it is and they've done a few things to try and speed it up (There are more things they can and probably will have to do moving forward so games don't last forever)

A shorter season would help. Have games feel more impactful but you need revenue elsewhere to cover for that like expanding the playoffs

Offense attracts and it's getting worse in baseball. You gotta get rid of pitchers batting in the National League (you have a few that can hit some bombs but it's not worth keeping moving forward). They might have to **** around the juice the balls again

I think it's important that you also said the game is old and white. That plays alot into the culture of the unwritten rules and not being able to celebrate/react when you make great plays. The fanbase is dying (Literally) and letting this new group of players to express themselves and not this "back in my day we didn't do that" nonsense can change the perception of how a sport is viewed as entertaining or not. You need a new generation of fans that doesn't feel this is an old and white sport anymore

But for the game itself like finessence finessence it kinda is what it is at this point. There's incremental changes you can do but it's only going to go so far

Steven A bout to go through his ***** lesson.

If you want to be a star in a country, it helps significantly to speak the native language of said country....

what is crazy about this statement?

Don't you think if you were a american baseball player in japan,
it would help increase your marketability, if you could speak japanese?

the heat coming down on him

I hate this pov. Its oversaturated in wrestling in the states as well. So many foreign (especially non english speakers) wrestlers aren't allowed to do simple **** like cut a promo in their language or with their language w/ sprinkles of english in what they're saying that the audience can get the overall gist of they're saying. Instead the having doing these god awful struggle english promos that you just want to end. English speakers go over to Japan all of the time all of the time & make a name for themselves. Xenophobic pov's like this have kept Americans culturally dumb to foreigners and even the varies subcultures here in American alone.

you don't think it would help as an american professional wrestler working in japan to be able to speak japanese?

Didn't Awesome Kong learned some Japanese i think?
why did she do that? was that a waste of time?

Some of what I alluded to earlier. like I get his point and he could have delivered it better but Baseball has bigger problems at hand than your best star needing an interpreter.

SAS is speaking on behalf of a base that is fading away. Placating to them does nothing to benefit your future

I'm pretty sure Ohtani speaks english anyways but on a individual level does it help his marketability? Sure. Does this advance the league in any significant way? No

That was mainly the issue with his initial statement. He is saying it could hold the league back when in reality his train of thought is what's keeping the league held back. You want the MLB to succeed then it's going to need to aggressively pivot away from the old guard.

I didn't say "American" I specifically said "english speakers". On average if you live foreign setting you are gonna adopt some their customs. English speakers typically go to Japan & learn the language vice-versa, but are allowed especially if they're heel to speak their own.

And Ohtani definitely speaks english. SA may not like how it sounds, but that's his problem. Any good journalist should be able to guide who they're talking to & elaborate on what they are attempting to discussed if there happens to be a mix up in communication.

Well yeah, he posted it on Twitter.
It just seems very, "Let me stand on the soapbox and let everyone know I don't condone this behavior."

But, I know I am typically cynical with anyone making those types of posts. Especially "them."

it'd help, but you'd be surprised at how optimized japan is in terms of daily functions - meals, transportation, etc ... a lot of these things require little to no japanese proficiency.

but it depends i think. if you're brought over specifically to work in the industry, i'd imagine you'd have a team taking care of the background stuff where japanese could be necessary, (like i'd imagine ohtani having a team to help him here in the states).

i'd like to see if SAS would have the same take if ohtani was asian american

Baseball is a dead sport overall. Bat flips won’t save it. The games are too long and if you’ve been to a game they just stand around majority of the game. Once the starting pitcher goes out (if he’s any good anyway) the games always blow up. You got a guy who can pitch 6-7 innings but after that the next guy can barely throw a strike. Plus the batters can’t even hit too. Only trying to hit HRs which leads to strikeouts. Sport is finished overall. Better to play than watch.
