The barber is charging you how much?! Vol. Real Life Curb Your Enthusiam Scenario

How much do you guys expect to pay for a cut? Serious question?

Im a Barber and have been for over 15yrs.
I currently dont work out of a shop and strictly do house calls.
My prices depend on the client.
Ive havent charged less than $40 for a cut in at least 5yrs.
Ive charged up to $100 for a housecall.
Im not about to pay for no damn booth or let anyone take a cut out of my pay.

maybe a dub at the most with beard just a regular #1 ceasar is all i need especially if im coming weekly.

My wifey nails got more fancier designs than my haircut and she be in there over 2 hours and im paying her nail person 40

Unless these dudes getting some fancy haircuts like my wife nails maybe thats why they can justify 30+ on a cut.

House calls i never understood. You already saving money by not renting a chair and you charge more?

Understandable as you have to factor in the drive to the person's crib. Gas ain't cheap

Find a Personal Nail chick who does house calls and i guarantee you she aint charging no $40 for a full set.
As far as house Calls, you have to think about it like this. Ive owned and worked out of a shop before,
I never more more money than i do now as a personal and house call barber. Of course i built my clientele over the past 10yrs to the point where i dont need the additional walk ins that you get in a shop.
As far as my clients, they prefer to sit at home and chill while they get a cut rather than wait at a shop, or even make an appointment and have to drive to a shop. Ive gotten calls for a cut anywhere between midnight to 5am.... best believe im not charging no $20 or even $50 for emergency calls like that. If i have the time, ill be there, if you are willing to call me at 1am or 5am for a cut you must be doing something important and you have to be willing to pay the price.

im not knocking house calls i see it as paying for convenience and that can vary from person to person. 1am for a cut is dumb so im not even going to blame you for taxing dude

gas not not cheap? not even $3 a gallon.

2 gallons of gas round trip is plenty. So $6 for gas $30 for the cut $40-50ish after tip with house call is fair to me but not in a shop.

As far as nails naw wifey goes to the shop.

I’ve been dropping 20-30 for haircuts, but it’s not from consistent barber. I got one at this spot in NJ for $23 or so but he did a good damm job plus he did the hot towel joint. Here in texas dude took like $27 I was it’s whatever I needed groom myself for a job interview. Haven’t cut my joint since November so I’m looking like scruffy dog.

I think I’m gonna cut my hair every 2 months now. Not because it’s expensive but not to overly cut my hair every 3-4 weeks, and accelerate baldness.

I'm noticing a few barbers are starting to go up to that $30+ mark. I'm currently at $25 with mine. Anything else more, then im defenately cutting back on visits,or im finding a hood cat in a Barber College lol. I think its monkey see monkey do with these barbers+social media gasses all of them up. I understand it's a hustle. But everybody isnt going to go for them $30+ or $40+ prices. I know a cat who stopped going to his Barber out of spite because he went up to $30+. He goes to a hood shop now lmao. I told him he spends the extra money on gass alone to go to a Barber who charges less.

So it still adds up to more money. Dude is over the top petty like Camron lol. He frowned at me and said it's just a haircut. I'm not paying someone that much just for a fade or cesar. I feel the same way though. Cutting mens hair doesnt warrant a $30+ or $40+ charge. And let's keep it 100 up in here. Barbers are finessing with the best of them nowadays. No barber is spending over an hour cutting a fade or cesar. Unless if theyre bored and dont have anyone else to cut. Average time for them is 25 to 45 minutes. So its really $30+ to $40+ twice an hour when you think about it. Social media has helped there hustle.

It also depends on where you stay at and the clientele the Barber has. The max ill go is $25- $30. Cats out here acting like straight divas and like it took them 8 to 12 years to get there Barber license. Barbers are like Instagram models nowadays in my opinion. They think there bigger than they actually are. I'm really interested in seeing how long they can keep finessing people by raising the prices up in the future. I'll be in the hood paying $15- $25 to the younger up and comer. Before i pay $30+ to a wannabe social media diva thats gassed up over knowing how to fade somebody up the right way for 30 minutes.

It does depend on your relationship with that particular Barber. Like ive said before on here. My Barber charges some cats $30+,some lesser. Funny how this topic gets a thread every few months. Due to social media the Barber Diva syndrome must be spreading state to state lmao. Can't knock the hustle though.

What are y’all paying more than $20 for? (And that’s IF you got wild facial hair from wolfing) I seriously don’t get it. Is it a status symbol for y’all?

I pay $18 for my go to and $23 for my back up.

Edit: Felt like I haven't seen OP since 2011. Damn time flies.

Prices are inflationary...

The cost to rent the shop aint the same as it was 10 years ago...rent goes up, chair prices go up, haircut prices go up...

With that being said. I'm tired of getting my cut every week .. I been scruffy since the fall... got about 2 or 3 haircuts since sept..

would you trust that barber to step in your crib, what if he like nice things and you own nice things. Streets watching.

I wouldn't do house calls to the barber house or him even stepping inside my crib nah chill their are limits to it. unless im cool peoples with him and i can trust the dude.

I do gotta get a haircut badly though, im not doing these diva like barbers here. just cut my ish nice and let me be on my way.

Don't get me wrong. I totally understand the $25- $50 prices ive seen for them haircuts that takes real skill and procession. Wesley Snipes in New Jack City, practically everybody in Juice=(Aka the top YouTube Barbers). That defenately takes skills because thats like molding something into a shape. Plus your parts/edge up game has to be on point. I know some older Barbers on the East and West who get busy. But you down south Barbers who can barely fade with the line still showing around ya head, that also love pushing people's line up back need to stop raising yalls prices. Those are the cats truly getting over.

being a barber is a profession(it highly regard in some countries), just like someone who's in the medical field doing surgery. You can't trust anyone to put metal blades on your head and think they can cut your hair. Its part of the human hygiene, just like how you brush your teeth.

i've had barber give me solid advice to help reduce my razor bumps and recommend me products to help that situation.
Can't be cheapsake with your hair all the time, cause its also a confidence booster when shorty's compliment you on a nice cut. Just part of life.

But you talking to a dude who dont go to the barbershop and probably never will.

its your life man, not everyone walks into a casino to actually spend their money, some just chill and watch for fun or just grab a drink at the bar and watch the game. Different strokes, for different folks.

TLDR:
-I've always struggled to find good, consistent barbers.
-My friend takes me to this shop and barber does a good job. So I keep on going back.
- While talking I found out that the barber is charging me almost 2x times as much as he does my friend, and other people
DESPITE their cuts being more complicated and probably taking more time.

Question
-SHOULD I MENTION THIS TO THE BARBER?
Son that's wild flagrant.

Did your boy not tell the barber you were putting him on?
