The Dallas Cowboys ... vol. Wrap This Thing Up, Who To Draft?

Anybody remember all the pissing and moaning last year about the preseason and how Wade had to leave the guys out there longer than he wanted before just pulling them because they never found a rhythm? Last year turned out OK...

Yeah I remember that. People just like to complain. They lost last years 3rd preseason game to the 49ers too 20-13.

It's just a different standard with this team unlike any other in the league. The media's reaction to this game is ridiculous, you would have thought it was the season opener.

I saw some interviews and some of the players were saying they don't really game plan during the pre-season.
So its whatever for now.

Its even worse if they are going out there with a vanilla offense and cant even look decent doing that. I dont care if someone is sceaming you or whatever. They still got out muscled on both sides of the ball. Yes, they were missing a few key guys because of injury, but they still should have looked better.

This is two straight games where the defense has gotten abused by the running game.

Quarterback (3)
Tony Romo
Jon Kitna
Stephen McGee
Summary: Romo and Kitna are entrenched as Nos. 1 and 2,respectively. Stephen McGee's 304-yard, one-touchdown preseason finaleperformance ended questions about his roster security. Internally, theteam was pleased with his recent progress but wanted to see him playwell in a full-game audition. He'll run the scout-team offense onceagain.

Running Back (5)
Marion Barber
Felix Jones
Tashard Choice
Chris Gronkowski
Deon Anderson
Summary: The Cowboys elected to keep two fullbacks,Gronkowski and the fourth-year veteran Anderson, rather than a thirdtight end. Gronkowski, an undrafted rookie, played some wing at Arizonaand could help fill injured John Phillips' role in three-tight endsets. Anderson is back as a run blocker and core special-teamer. Nochanges among the three-running back rotation.

Wide Receiver (5)
Miles Austin
Roy Williams
Dez Bryant
Kevin Ogletree
Sam Hurd
Summary: Ogletree slides up a spot on the depth chartfollowing Crayton's departure. The Cowboys also kept Hurd, who signed a$1.759 million restricted tender in the offseason, despite trade rumorsduring the week. His special teams ability - he had a team-high 19tackles last season - likely gave him a better chance than Crayton tobe active on game days.

Tight End (2)
Jason Witten
Martellus Bennett
Summary: The Cowboys did not elect to keep a third truetight end after Phillips' season-ending knee injury, but they're likelyto keep as many as two on the practice squad for depth. Witten andBennett are again the primary resources in two-tight end formations.

Offensive Line (10)
Doug Free
Kyle Kosier
Andre Gurode
Leonard Davis
Marc Colombo
Alex Barron
Montrae Holland
Phil Costa
Robert Brewster
Sam Young
Summary: The Cowboys went heavy with 10 linemen, due in partto the Colombo and Kosier injuries. Colombo (knee scope) is expected topractice this week, but Kosier (sprained MCL) - the starting left guardand primary backup center - could miss up to three games. Holland isKosier's guard replacement, and undrafted rookie Phil Costa is thecurrent backup center. The Cowboys also kept three backup tackles:Barron, the primary swing tackle; Brewster, the second-year vet whoalso can play both sides; and the sixth-rounder Young, who will missanother two-to-three weeks with a sprained MCL.

Defensive Line (7)
Marcus Spears
Jay Ratliff
Igor Olshansky
Stephen Bowen
Jason Hatcher
Josh Brent
Sean Lissemore
Summary: Another heavy position. Five of six rotationplayers from 2009 are back: Spears, Ratliff, Olshansky, Bowen andHatcher. Seventh-rounders Brent and Lissemore beat out the sixthrotation guy, Junior Siavii, who signed with the Seahawks on Sunday. The Cowboys decided to go younger with Brent, a powerful nose tackle, and Lissemore, who can play end or tackle.

Linebacker (9)
DeMarcus Ware
Keith Brooking
Bradie James
Anthony Spencer
Victor Butler
Brandon Williams
Sean Lee
Jason Williams
Leon Williams
Summary: Heavy again, particularly the five insidelinebackers: starters Brooking and James; second-rounder Sean Lee; andveteran backups Leon and Jason Williams. Leon Williams likely beat outSteve Octavien for one of the final overall spots. To be active, hemust contribute heavily on special teams. Victor Butler grabbed thethird outside linebacker spot and is expected to spell Ware andSpencer.

Cornerback (3)
Terence Newman
Mike Jenkins
Orlando Scandrick
Summary: The Cowboys had to go light somewhere, and this isit. The fourth cornerback competition was heated through training camp, but ultimately only the top three made it. Those other heavy positionseliminated Cletis Gordon, who had double-digit interceptions inpractice, and undrafted rookie Bryan McCann. The Cowboys havecornerback flexibility with their safeties, though; starting freesafety Alan Ball can play there in a pinch, and fourth-rounder AkwasiOwusu-Ansah has been working in the slot.

Safety (6)
Gerald Sensabaugh
Alan Ball
Mike Hamlin
Akwasi Owusu-Ansah
Danny McCray
Barry Church
Summary: Sensabaugh (shoulder subluxation), the startingstrong safety, has a good chance to be ready for the opener. The Gordonand McCann cuts made room for two undrafted safeties, McCray andChurch. McCray figures to make an immediate impact on special teams, and he and Hamlin could help as dime safeties/linebackers. Owusu-Ansahperformed well on kickoff and punt returns and could split time withDez Bryant.

Specialist (3)
David Buehler
Mat McBriar
L.P. Ladouceur
Summary: Buehler's excellent preseason (10-for-11 fieldgoals, including 4-for-4 and the winning kick last Thursday) earned himfull-time kicking duties. The Cowboys hoped he could handle kickoffsand place kicks because it would create an extra spot for anotherposition backup like Lissemore or Leon Williams. McBriar (punter) andLadouceur (long snapper) are entrenched at their positions.

Soooooo what're we doin in the defensive backfield?

They said they'll swing Ball when they need a 4th corner... I figured Cletus Gordon was a lock...

Really hinging on everybody being healthy... Someone goes does and they're in trouble there.

AOA is the 4th CB for now. If Jenkins, Scandrick, or Newman get hurt though, I'm sure they'll hit the waiver wire during the season

How do you guys feel about AOA being our fourth corner? it kinda scares me when we play teams like Green Bay and New Orleans

i dont understand ... scandrick has been getting burnt for 2 years now and we are carrying 3 corners ... Newman gets hurt damn near every season ... what is going on? we have THREE corners in a passing league ... someone is on drugs ...

Most teams' 4th CB is average or worse...that's why they're just the 4th CB. McCann and Cletis Gordon weren't very good in the last 2 preseason games so I really don't think there will be much of a drop-off between them and AOA. And besides, AOA was a CB in college anyway and would have been a project at safety.

You're getting caught up in labels.

AO-A has always been a corner, but we moved him to free safety to try it out. Now, he's officially being moved "back" to corner, so you can refer to him as "cornerback number four."

Garrett is trash...he still tries to get too cute w/ his playcalling and putting pressure on this torn up offensive line to pass protect. Just line them up and let Felix, Barber and Choice pound the rock

different year and same +%+!@#% problems

the D is just fine

offense has way to much talent to play the way it did.

and coachs are still stupid. baron +%+!@#% sucks so why not put a TE or RB over his way so he knows he has help?

he should be cut before the plane leaves DC tho

no comment on that crap at the end of the 2nd QTR

the more i think about it, the more i'm cool with it ...

will that play att he end of the half ever happen again? No
will alex barron be starting at RT ever again? No
will we have to force feed Dez the ball to get his "feet wet" again? No

Is Dez the mother ifugfhbfw truth? YES
Do we have a #1 receiver in Miles Austin? YES
Do Felix and Barber look like scary compliments? YES
Is Romo protecting the ball? YES
Is Doug Free a top tier LT? YES
Is our D nasty? YES

We have some things to work out but we have so much talent that I think we can overcome having an inept offensive coordinator ...

Man that O-line has been our down fall for the past two years.. thats why we only put up 3 points against the vikings in the playoffs last year.. even when everyone is healthy.. there are still gonna be plenty of holding, false start, and other unacceptable penalties.. I think watching the Cowboys play makes my blood pressure rise.

Garrett is an idiot ... His interview was dumb as %+** ... he didnt man up until the media basically forced it out of him ... %@%#+%% %@%#$ ...

Wade handles the defense and Garrett handles the offense ... someone needs to tell jerry to eat !%+$ and get that punk out of the organization ...

When are we going to overcome the remedial mistakes? That's what I'm waiting for.

I don't even know who to blame for it anymore.

i was talking to my friend at work today and he brought up the same point i was thinking in my head so it might have some merit ... we might be so good that we are making a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE coordinator look half way decent ...

romo, witten, barber, felix, miles, dez, roy e, gurode, free etc... there isnt a damn offense in the league that can matchup with us from top to bottom ... it's disgusting ... and we score 7 points ... it doesnt make sense ...

QFMFT

It's only the first game and we were going against a defense that we didn't have much tape on, so I'll go a little easy Garrett.  LOVED the formation with Felix/Barber/Choice.  Why we only used it once I have no idea.

This offense can seriously cause match up problems and if Jason Garrett can't figure that $$%+ out soon he better be gone by the end of year.

QFT I agree every single point you made. We'll get it together at some point...
