dude started the all-star game.

That's a helluva deal
I'm really shocked that he got $2.5 million less than Wood. I assumed, at worst, he would get the same deal, or maybe even more money.

We sure could use that extra $2.5 million right now.

Oh well. I'm not complaining.
Derek Lowe Rumors: Wednesday
By Tim Dierkes [December 31 at 4:07pm CST]

4:07pm: Jack Curry of the New YorkTimes weighs in. He can see the Mets bumping their offer to $39MM for three years, but agrees that they won't add a fourth year (despite four-yeardeals given to inferior pitchers in recent times).

8:43am: MetsBlog'sMatthew Cerrone says a Derek Lowe signing is "feeling inevitable" for the New York National League club. They'll have to uptheir three-year, $36MM offer; Cerrone sees the Mets as unlikely to guarantee a fourth year or reach $15MM per.

Just don't let him go to Red Sox, come on Mets!

Milledge in left, Dukes in center, Bradley in right. that would be gangsta overload.

Between Dukes temper and Bradleys the Nationals would lead the league in one category: brawls. At least it would add excitement to the games at the park.

With the Cubs close to finalizing another trade -- right-hander Jason Marquis to the Colorado Rockies for right-handed reliever Luis Vizcaino -- the deals are seen as a precursor to the Cubs negotiating a free-agent deal with outfielder Milton Bradley.

The Washington Nationals are believed to have offered Bradley $30 million over three years, and the Tampa Bay Rays are also in the mix, sources tell ESPN.

what makes you think that?? he had a tough season last year but thats because he had a hurt arm and dint get the right attention...
he had tommy john surgery...he COULD bounce back great.

he was screwed over by the nats tho because he was sent to AAA and then needed surgery but the AAA docs are not great and the pro docs wouldnt give him medicalattention...he then later got attention from pro doctors and they found the problem...he is recovering fast and should be ready for sping training

no need to be so salty with no source....

I hope he bounces back great I went to the game he pitched against the Cubs in 2007 and he threw a shutout, he has potential I think and it's not like theNats have anyone else in the rotation.

actually, they do. Lannan, Olsen, Balester, Zimmermann, Martis, Clippard and many others are all miles ahead of Chico in talent and on thestarting pitching depth chart. believe me, Chico is forgotten in the Nationals rotation.

By what definition did Milton Bradley quietly have a monster season?

The guy was an All-Star starter, and plenty of people talked about him being the best hitter in baseball last year when he was healthy...

Win 97 games. Sign Dempster, sign Wood, make a damn deal for Peavy by trading away nothing, move Marquis for a peice if you want, and maybe try to add a lefty bat (Abreu, maybe Milt) whatever. Call it an offseason and go forward. It shouldn't be that hard.

Instead, we're rolling dice and hoping it all works out. Gotta be @*%@#%* kidding me.

The Rangers are miles closer to being a competitive baseball team than the Nationals... You talk about the Nats like they're evenremotely close to fielding a competitive team... They're not... If Ryan Zimmerman is your second best hitter and Scott Olsen is supposed to be a mainstayin your rotation, you're not close to anything but the cellar...

And Scott Olsen being as good as anybody on the Rangers staff (even though it's not remotely true) doesn't change the fact that he's a terriblepitcher, and always has been...

You're a clown...

Side note actually pertaining to the offseason...

The Rangers joined the low-risk/high-reward club, signing Derrick Turnbow to a one-year minor league contract... Worth a shot, at the very least... He'sbeen really good in stretches, and he's been really bad in stretches... If he can get the control problems in line and avoid any more injury issues, heshould be able to return to being the shut down type reliever he was back in 2005...

They're also poking around the idea of signing Chad Cordero and Jason Isringhausen to low-risk contracts... Jon Daniels loves the low-risk relievermarket...
laugh.gif
Eric Gagne and Eddie Guaradado the last two seasons and bothwere flipped for prospects at midseason...

Oh, and wildKYcat and KLJ...
Turnbow Agrees To One-Year Deal With Rangers
By Drew Silva [December 31 at 11:59pm CST]

According to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, the Rangershave reached a tentative agreement with Derrick Turnbow on a one-year deal.

Turnbow was also targeted by the Marlins and Pirates, but chose Texas in the end because of his relationship with pitching coach Mike Maddux. Turnbow will make $925,000 if he makes the major league club out of spring training. The contract also carries $325,000 in pefrormance incentives. The31-year-old right-hander last pitched effectively in 2007, when he posted a 4.63 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 68 innings.
