The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- Cannonier, Imavov, Reyes, Rosas on NOW

That kid got star potential. Sucks he’s on PFL. But glad he’s getting money. If he has a successful run during the contract…folks going to have to throw $200K or more per fight.

Ufc don’t need to depend on stars as much

Anyone else should… probably have stars. Kanye shrug
That’s fair. But Stars milkshake bring the boys to the yard.

Can’t front and say there’s not a difference when you’ve gotta Ronda Rousey or Conor Mcagregor and when you don’t. I get it. They went back to a brand first approach. But you look at the Messi effect in Miami or big PPVs in boxing, it all depends on stars.

I love MMA so I’m not the common bloke. It’ll be interesting to see if PFL buys Bellator AND that antitrust case.

I don’t get what the dude is arguing lol

Stars make sports go, generally speaking

Not sure what’s to debate or argue about that. But dude can get his had pants had pants on all he want

Yeah…but if that turns MMA into Boxing (eg independent contractors, open market with sanctioning bodies) then how does PFL benefit?

PFL benefited from the model the UFC created. PFL just happens to be a small player because WSOF was a second tier MMA promotion competing with Bellator prior to the Viacom purchase. Things have improved for them with ESPN coverage and some buzz here or there. But maybe the first shoe dropping is buying Bellator then trying to make a run at improving their name brand and their major stars.

They resigned Clarissa Shields. They have Kayla. If they get Cyborg they can make the biggest women’s fight outside of UFC.

They need to get more exposure for Doumbe and figure out how to make more male stars.
It wouldn't turn into boxing though. The lawsuit has nothing in it about having the Ali Act implemented. The plaintiffs want less restrictive contracts where fighters would be able totest free agency like other sports in shorter time spans.

PFL would be able to offer someone like O'Malley 30 mil for 4 fights/2 years. Being able to buy already established stars in their prime to put on big fights would be best for them at this time. They wouldn't be able to make home grown stars right now because no one cares/knows about the PFL.

From what I read the biggest thing would be change in contracts in the lawsuit against the ufc which would free up talent. The ufc can’t continue to keep fighters trapped.

Would def help the market as a whole because you would see more of a free agency and a bidding war for fighters to make big fights happen.

But what if the antitrust does lead to an Ali act like law for MMA fighters?

But I do agree the case would definitely change the championship clause, forcing the promotion to offer fights, etc. I don’t think it would change the pay though.

I speak french and been checking your boy Doumbe for a while. There are some intricacies that make what Doumbe did last night incredible. The pre fight stuff he did was unreal. On one of his prefight Vids on his Chanel he plugged a real mattress add saying to Jordan zebo the canvas where I'm gonna knock you out is not comfortable so he literally had a mattress delivered at MMA factory (Ciryl Ganes coach Fernand Lopezs gym) to his opponent Jordan Zebos attention (3 min mark of video below) and had the whole thing filmed. The promo code to get 10% off the matress was "Bonnenuitjordan" (good night jordan). Just ruthless. In all of his pre fight stuff he kept saying Jordan.. t'es mort (Jordan your dead) that's what the crowd was chanting and what he was shouting 2 seconds before separating him from his consciousness. If that wasn't enough, in his post fight speech he said he had no beef with Jordan zebo, infact he ask the crowd to show respect to Jordan and show him love on the social media. He encouraged his opponent to keep training that he has big potential and keep his head up. He then said that KO was not meant for Jordan, it was in fact meant for "the guy that likes to beat his wife/ex-wife" Fernand Lopez. Yes that same Ciryl Gane coach that had beef with Ngannou. He outted the wife beater for the world to see and Fernand was in attendance at the fights. What happened last night is a first in MMA history. The guy Smoked everybody and everyone without saying one foul word (muslim). In a later interview a reporter told him why he made those bold claims about fernand and asked him if he had seen him beat his wife. Doumbe explained that he was on the phone while it happened, and called the cops and pointed to the police reports if anyone wanted to know more. Bro that **** was a masterclass from top to bottom. I think he is going to be bigger then Conor (without the degeneracy). I wish you guys could speak french to peep the level of trolling this guy is operating on. Wow just unreal

I think you summarized the backstories and aftermath pretty damb thoroughly

I hope he keeps this up, we've been waiting on him to breakthrough in MMA. Had no clue he was a good troll too, raises the stakes that much more

steevoo1 steevoo1 so I've been reading up on the connections between Lopez and the PFL, as well as Ali possibly blocking the UFC from signing Lazy King

Apparently Lopez is the matchmaker for PFL in Europe? Did any of us ever mention this, I don't recall. I read that Dan Hardy and Lopez are the main matchmakers for PFL Europe

Does Lazy King train with Lopez or managed by him?

More PFL tidbits, lol smh

Yeah, PFL and Bellator deserve each other

Also read that originally the PFL event was supposed to be actually competitive but turned into nothing but showcase and can fights. I don't blame them, but yeah. Not surprised

I don't think he's the head matchmaker. Dan Hardy is the head of ops for their EU division. I know his wife has ties with MMA Factory and Fernand. So I'm pretty sure they use him and his promotion to farm talent for the PFL similar to SBG for Bellators EU and Dublin cards.

Yeah unfortunately Lazy King is managed and trained by him. Pretty much everyone out that gym is managed by him.

Thanks for the insight and background to the main event. Man's was a menace in Glory too. Really wanted to see him in the UFC. Folks would've been surprised with his levels of trolling . He was also a much better KB than Izzy and Alex and his style translates well to MMA because hes so unorthodox.

Even if he doesn't ultimately end his career in the UFC, seeing the man fight with 4 Oz. Gloves is going to be appointment viewing everytime. Man's power is real.

I hope Dillon doesn't smack Shill Ariel. Dope that he's got Doumbe on there post fight. And Tony should be good entertainment lol.
