I don't see that happening with them two. They need each other. Ben is the creative side of the brand and Cam is the "hype man".  I can see it applying to Rene and Cam. Crisp blows up and all of a sudden Rene "owns" it because of the money Ben and Cam "borrowed".

Cam getting criminally involved with Rene is going to bite him in the +*% and probably hurt Crisp somewhere down the line.

When dude at the bar said "the way to get rich is slow" I think they were dropping a clue about Cam wanting things to happen too quickly and making decisions without thinking of the long term costs. Cam made two very rash decisions in that episode, one paid off, I think the other will go down as an L...

Also: why the extreme hate for Rachel? I just dont see the reason.

For me at least she has nothing to do with the show. Her character didn't develop at all, and in all honesty she isn't that attractive either. Ben, Cam, and Rene would still be who they are for the most part if Rachel wasn't on the show.
exactly...shes essentially some a&$ ben never got over...the show doesn't develop her character, which actually had potential, for her to spend more time finding what she wants to do in life and pursuing that...they lost their target with her after that first episode where she was talking with her friend working in Africa saving kids or something.

i just think you guys don't like her cause shes not that hot. her character relates to a lot of people, wanting a certain life style and once she has that decides its not for her

i find her annoying also btw

Cosign on all of that

I like her character, and I dont think shes unattractive at all.

First of all, when Rene borrowed the 100 grand he made sure to take the vig and not UCC the business (which means if he missed a payment he would've lost Rasta Monsta). He knows Ben and Cam are paying the vig for the loan and in no way does that mean he owns part of their business. Also you're forgetting they're family (which is why Cam didn't get his teeth kicked in). Also, Rene's been trying real hard to go legit and I think he's happy Cam is also starting a legitimate business. I feel like he wants both of them to succeed.

Second of all, Cam is not "criminally involved" with Rene. Rene covered his bases to ensure he never has to worry about being accused of insurance fraud. He made Cam light the truck on fire so he's just as guilty as Rene is. That's it. They both don't want anything about the van coming back to haunt them so it'll never come up.

yeah but didn't Rene say something along the lines of "if I'm going down, you're going with me?" to Cam right before he torched the truck?  There was a bit of hesitation on Cam's part before he put the lighter to the rag.  Somehow....someway, I think Cam having his hands dirty may come back to haunt him.

I don't see how you can say Cam isn't criminally involved when he's helping with insurance fraud.  1)  He knows Rene's motives behind burning the truck 2)  He PARTICIPATED in burning the truck.

Rene wants Cam to succeed, but he was selfish to involve him.  Jabbar could have easily returned the shirts w/o Cam suspecting that Rene was involved in the theft.  Remember, Cam asked him to make some calls and dude was acting real shady...that's what put Cam on to Rene in the first place.  A lot of this could have been avoided and I do think it's going to come back to them if there's a 2nd season.

Anyways...I love the show and hope it gets renewed

Yeah, because lighting a truck on fire and being an accomplice in insurance fraud isn't criminal, right?

You must be applying Wall Street ethics to this case.

" HBO hasn't decided if "How to Make It in America" will make it to a second season.

The show, which wrapped up its eight-episode run Sunday night, follows a group of 20-something New Yorkers trying to make it their mark in the fashion and design worlds. Described as either "Sex and the City" for the bridge and tunnel crowd or what would have happened to "Entourage's" Vinnie and Eric if they never left Queens, "How to Make It In America" has struggled to find an audience.

The first seven episodes of "How to Make It in America" averaged fewer than 1 million viewers on its Sunday night run. Even for a pay cable channel such as HBO that does not count on ratings as much as commercial TV networks, that is a small number. If one factors in viewing for episodes of the show from HBO on-demand, digital video recorders and repeat airings, the figure grows to just under 3 million.

From Mark Wahlberg, whose production company also makes "Entourage" and "In Treatment," HBO insiders say the show has been tracking well with younger viewers. However, that may not be enough to ensure a second season. While the pay cable channel has often carried shows for several seasons that have strong critical acclaim but small audiences such as David Simon's "The Wire," "How to Make It in America" has not attained that feverish devotion of so many other HBO shows.

But the Wahlberg connection may be enough to buy it a second season. The executive producers -- Stephen Levinson and Rob Weiss -- are going to be discussing a second season with creator Ian Edelman and then will make their case to HBO.

In the show's favor is that it is not expensive. Furthermore, HBO rarely gives up on a show after just one season. Even "Mind of the Married Man" got a sophomore year.

i didnt think it was the greatest show ever.. but it definitely kept my attention for 8 eps. i hope it gets a chance for a full second season.

Guess I am. He lit a fire and, yes, became an accomplice to insurance fraud. However, Rene and Cam BOTH hope that the truck doesn't cause problems for them. They both have a vested interest in nothing ever coming up about the truck. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Cam keeps this from Ben. Cam is not joining Rene's crew and this is probably the only instance of any serious criminal activity we'll see from Cam. I don't think this will come up in the future unless the writers want to send Rene (and possibly Cam) to jail. However, I think it was important to show Rene and Cam acting as equals. Cam is starting a legitimate business just like Rene and he's starting to see success. He's not Rene's little, good for nothing cousin anymore and it's good to see Rene understanding this.

I quickly looked and after 3 seasons Entourage was averaging 2.5 million viewers per show.... So I am going on a limb and will say they probably averaged either below 1 mil or a little above 1 mil viewers per show in the first season.. So they need to give the show a couple more seasons and see what happens.. And I think it will increase in viewership as a couple seasons go by.. And if it is 3 mil with recordings and repeats it will definitely double with time and triple etc.

They also have to figure that for a few weeks they were competing with things like the NBA All Star Game, College Ball Tourny & Baseball opening game for the season. Since it was a new show plenty of people choose bigger event over the new show

Most shows deserve 2 seasons because it is hard to get huge following right off the bat. You need to build it through repeats and word of mouth.

I just watched the Finale.. Hopefully HBO has a new season coming out VERY soon..

So Cam is an accomplice to insurance fraud but he isn't 'criminally involved' with Rene? Maybe that's not the coined term, but Cam has definitely committed a crime because of what he did with Rene that night in the episode.
The part with Wil Fredo is definitely a foreshadow. He says not to trust anybody and this even comes up again when Rene and Cam are in the car and Rene says not to trust anybody, including family. Ben and Cam are tight and they both definitely need each other, but what Cam did to get the shirts back is going to hurt their friendship a lot. Ben trusts Cam already and I am pretty sure somewhere along in the story line, Cam and Rene are gonna go down for that truck incident. When that happens, Ben is gonna flip because I am sure that Cam isn't going to tell him about lighting the truck on fire. It's gonna be a mess and that's what life is all about, and this show is all about coming up right? Well +%*+, sometimes when you are trying to come up +%*+ doesn't pan out right. This could ultimately affect Crisp as a whole as well.

I enjoyed the show for what it was and I am excited for a second season.

I didn't like Rachel before the last episode for the most part, but she actually does affect people, Ben especially. Ben isn't as aggressive of a character for awhile because he's depressed over Rachel. She is a MAJOR influence on him and will continue to be if she is kept around in the series, especially if Julie and Ben get something going on. She has a place in the story and is definitely needed. She didn't develop as much as everybody else, but it's a bit hard for someone who is already doing something that they 'want' to do to develop in eight episodes. We'll probably see more of her.

Ben had to make sure his business was straight first. And once a crook, always a crook.

There should be NO reason this show doesn't come back for a second, third, fourth, fifth etc. There are so many people that don't even know its on. Every single person that I have told about this show has fallen in love with it immediately.  Anyhow, I doubt this show will not be renewed.

This. her role was bigger than cudi's however. but ben should chill with that trick. now julie or w.e her name was...the shorty who hooked him and cam up with the 50/50 vintage, she was

. she can get the biz early.

i'd like to see cudi get more of a significant role along with kappo and gingy. i want more hustle, and more new york-ness depicted if that makes any sense....plus some cameos from real designers like they did with john varvatos, of course they don't have to be as mainstream.

more of julie/ girls n general. marky mark needs to borrow some of those fine girls from Entourage and port them over to this show.

......or just go to the spot in nyc which has the highest concentration of beautiful women

I get what you're saying (and maybe I was wrong about "criminally involved" although it still sounds off to me) but I don't know about Cam and Rene going down for the truck incident. If the writers went that route, one of them would end up locked up and that's probably not going to be Cam. Rene makes the show in a way because he's also "making it in America" so killing him off essentially would be like them shooting themselves in the foot. The only way to avoid that would be some sort of miracle which would be too unrealistic IMO. Also keep in mind that they burned the truck and probably got rid of it. Rene didn't really do anything that would blow up in his face. The only mistake he made was telling Cam about it but now Cam is involved so he has a vested interest in not bringing it up. I feel like both scenes (Wilfredo/Ben and Rene/Cam) are foreshadowing for problems between Ben and Cam next season. They both were told (at the same time) not to trust anyone but they need to trust each other. Maybe Ben finds out about the thing with Cam or something. They're both trying to build a brand together and as it gets more successful, there's more pressure for them both to step up and work together. If they're not on the same page and it appears to one that the other is slacking, it's not just damaging to the friendship but to the business. I guess the writers are going to force Ben and Cam to test their friendship with a business relationship similarly to how Vince and E did in Entourage (Season 5 which ended with Vince firing E until he realizes E landed him a Scorsese flick).

There WILL be a second season. HBO ALWAYS gives their shows a second season, even if they suck. Plus I feel like Marky Mark has enough pull off Entourage's success to get it greenlit regardless. The break between seasons will probably be good in getting people hyped about the show. It's a good show but not enough people watch it. They got about 1 million viewers over the 8 episode season (not counting On Demand and when the show re-aired). Keep in mind HBO doesn't need that many viewers because they're a paid station which doesn't take in ad revenue so although it's not good, it's not bad. The show is also cheap to film from what I understand, so the cost to film another season isn't so exorbitant that they'd reconsider it. Especially if it blows up and becomes the next Entourage (which, if you think about it, might be necessary because Entourage is already in its 7th season). They just need to get people watching.

the show is pretty authentic ny woman for the most part aint that hot man....lol its just a reality
