Macbook Air 128GB SSD.

iPhone 128GB that I need to backup before I upgrade. Is there any possible quick/easy way to save a backup to an external HD?

Your backup should only be the size of actual space used and the not the entire size of the drive in the phone, unless that phone is maxed out and really will require 128gb, or if you have your MBA pretty full and your phone's backup won't have enough space to save to the laptop.

But in iTunes, you should be able to specify where to save your phone's backup and point it to the external drive if you have it plugged in....I believe. I am not at my computer to confirm this, but I am pretty sure that you could do this. Pretty standard thing.

Pretty much don't have enough space of my Macbook to backup my iPhone. I searched around but could not find the option to do that on a mac. I know you can for windows but am not sure on a mac.

This was the only option I saw. http://osxdaily.com/2016/03/04/backup-iphone-to-external-hard-drive-mac/

Very long and tedious compared to just pushing a button when clicking backup.

Yea that and another article with the same steps were what I was about to send to you. Interesting that you would have to do all that for it to backup to an external from the Mac. It seems long, but the steps really aren't that bad....granted this is coming from an IT guy about 9 years in that uses command line scripts and functions

Granted, I just checked and iCloud storage options would make is easier and would probably be the easiest outside of using iTunes for backups:
United States (USD)
50GB:  $0.99
200GB:  $2.99
1TB:  $9.99
2TB:  $19.99
You could just buy the 200gb for $2.99, backup everything, do your restore and then either keep the plan for future backups and such or just cancel it and pay only for the 1 month.

Bros can i get help with the ssd? Is it another one just as good as the samsung 850 one? And where is the best place to get products for the mac other than apple and amazon. Looking for great product at a great price.

What do you use your computer for? I'm using a Crucial BX200 and it's fine for me. I don't edit video anything.

This is a solid option and would be cheaper than an external HD.

web development, photoshop. Just need it to be able to handle that and of course surf the web

You should be good with the Samsung Pro series TBH even the Crucial MX series is good too. Did you max out your RAM? What you do is more RAM intensive than anything.

Anyone know a good brand/location for Macbook Pro batteries? Looking to replace the one in my early 2011 laptop.

Alright NT fam please excuse me ahead of time if I sound so ignorant or broadminded, I'm due for a new laptop and have always used Windows and now looking to try out iOS for a new experience.

Would making the switch be a good experience? What advantages do Macs have? besides how well-constructed their laptops are (from what I've heard).

So far, I like what I've been reading on how you guys are upgrading/updating your 2011+ laptops which I never knew you could do on Macs. While on the other hand, while researching on Windows, it seems like there's a new laptop/device every month (exaggerating) adding a bunch of new upgrades and features, when I want to avoid to spend money on getting "the best to my needs" when it'll be obsolete the month after by another company, or incompatibility with programs due to processor speed, built in RAM, or lack of durability on misc components i.e screen, speakers, keyboard, mouse pad (beyond annoying).

I would use it for browsing, streaming music/videos, maybe some apps, and compatibility with my phone (which AirDrop seems nice to have) for files and such without the need of third party apps or clouds, and especially battery life.

Educate me NT, haven't been keeping up with computers/laptops since smartphones came out. :o :lol

ok so I'm about to pull the plug and I know i've asked a lot of questions about ssd's but i just want to make sure i'm getting the best one at that price range. I only have 75 to spend on a ssd.  I have a mac pro mid 2009, Which is the better choice?

I have the samsung 500gb for about a year now and haven't had any issues. Can't speak on the crucial one but I would imagine it's also a top notch company since they make ram as well. Should be fine with either one.

The thing I love about MBP is the ease of use. Since you have an iphone you're already going to sync up everything with no issues. Get a large enough hard drive with at least 8gb of ram and you'll be able to install windows on there and have the best of both worlds. If you can wait it out until the end of the year there is supposed to be a mac refresh at the end of this month. Can't really speak on PC's since I haven't used one since 2011 :lol

So is the 750 evo just as good as the 850?

I just checked and I have the 850evo. 850 is newer so it will be faster but I'm assuming it's just as good.

If you wait it out until thanksgiving you could probably find a better deal for the 850evo 500gb?

Edit: Just checked and I found this deal posted on 11/10/15 for the 850. Deals will be had for the 850 in the coming weeks, just make an alert on SD. Don't pay $70 for old tech.

Im about to do a data doubler on my 2011 mbp

will i need to choose the second ssd when saving information, or will my system automatically know to save to the second ssd when the first is out of storage?

Mac refresh...as in the new MBP?

I went to the Genius Bar today and while waiting, I asked a worker when the new MBP is coming out, she said she couldn't say anything and for me to lurk on macrumors :lol

When choosing a MacBook (or any laptop), what determines what level of computer do you need? I know if you do gaming and such, you would need the higher end one. But for a typical person, or me in this case, where I just browse online, look at videos, use MS Office, and Photoshop here and there. The heaviest thing I do is probably using File Transfer Protocol. With that said, I would never need the high end version, right?

My 2012 MBP is really gonna die soon. It heats up randomly and fan is super loud. I was told by friends and others that a typical laptop lasts about 3 years so I'm at 4 years flat on mine...guess I shouldn't feel too bad :{

Yup. MBP been needing a refresh now since 2015. Since you won't be using it intensely you probably don't even need the pro could just get away with the macbook. My 2011 is still going strong [emoji]128170[/emoji]
