I can't argue his offensive stats. He's definitely up there with the all-time greats.

Anyone can argue about his advanced stats defensively, but at the end of the day, he's a cone on defence, players will constantly hunt for him and he will be subbed out for defensive possessions of close games. No idea why that's being ignored.

Then you talk about narratives, Zach Lowe (who is arguably the most influential media personality with MVP votes) is all in on Joker which is ironic because he said this a few years back: "Zach Lowe in 2019 on why he voted for Giannis as the MVP over Harden: "Giannis is not quite Harden as a scorer, or passer. He is unguardable. But the gap on offense, is not big enough to trump the gap on defense. Harden is a defensive liability even with the Rockets defensive scheme"

The goal post shifts to fit narratives which in the media space, is very important with influencing the votes.

Everyone is talking about how Denver is the #1 seed in the west, but guess what? Philly is half a game behind Denver in overall standings. Not to mention the top teams in the west is dealing with injuries (Zion when the Pels were #3, KD, LeBron, Curry etc...).

I'm too lazy to find the clips, but also the narrative of Joker never playing with an all star or all nba player over the years and still do this. I mean, technically, Embiid isn't playing with an all star this year either. And why are they talking about previous years in some scenarios and not others? Oh yeah, to fit the narratives.

On the last note, Value over replacement player: When Deandre Jordan is your replacement player, that's not a very impressive stat to look at.

When is Jokic going to be subbed out for defensive possessions in close games? I think osh kosh bosh pointed out already, but for all this focus on Jokic’s defense as of late to try and cherry pick his performance game by game — the Sixers are only .5 points better than the Nuggets in defensive rating.

Embiid is definitely a better rim protector. They’re also going to pull him out on the perimeter and make him switch on PnRs and he’s going to struggle there as well.
