early 2000s shape is totally different and looks much better

That neoprene or whatever material on the Griffey AM90 is pretty comfy. Has more give so your toes have some movement area. I'm sure it'll be a dirt magnet over time but the comfort aspect makes up for it.

Thought the same thing when I threw mine on. Reminds me of the pants I wore with my uniform as a kid. Shout out to my mom for getting those things clean somehow after every game
