I get what you're saying, but I also understand what the coach is saying. Yes, as the coach you are the leader, however, you need that alpha player who's acting as the leader on the court. Who's willing to bark on cats if need be and set expectations and settle nerves, inspire guys etc. The Celtics have an identity crisis imo.
Brown was there first especially during the IT days, but he never had the offensive skillset and was seen as a project player. Boston got lucky and landed Tatum who had a better offensive skillset than Brown at the time. Plus with him working with Kobe etc, it seemed as if he was pegged to be the leader of the team. Browns game,/skillset matured quickly than people expected, so now he feels he has a say as well. Their games are similar, and it seems as if the leadership changes from game to game based off who's hot and who's cold.
The solution may be to break up that duo unless they can figure that out which doesn't seem likely at this point. In Futbol, the manager elects the captain and that is subject to change based off said players performance, attitude or if they are injured (someone else would fill in during their absence). Ime may have to do something similar.
