The Official Photography Thread - Vol. 3

thanks for the input and link, i don't have a subject to test out and experiment with on my own at the moment. i was under the impression that if both eyes were on an equal plane, focusing on one eye would sacrifice the focus of the other. when the opportunity presents itself, i want to be able to get a clean portrait with both eyes in focus without messing up and taking too much time.

guys thinking about switching back to 6d but, i kinda dig a7 too (the first one)

so pick one
a7 + fe 55mm 1.8
or
6d + sigma 50mm 1.4 ART

both has the same value in my country

thanks guys!

I have the that particular Sony setup with the addition of the batis 25mm. love it but I invested in it as I believe Sony's mirrorless system is the way of the future. however, I'm going to sell you canon as it is a cheaper system to invest in with a better assortment of legacy glass. I'm planning on investing $3k in Sony's upcoming 70-200mm 2.8 alone [emoji]128548[/emoji], where you can find the equivalent lense for sub $2k on the canon side.

first of all thanks for the reply!

sweet!! can i see some pic sample from ur particular setup bro?

but i forgot that 6d + 50mm is more expensive than the sony setup which cost about $200 more for the 6d

and what is the bang for the budget sony or 3rd party zoom lense for the a7?

and if i buy the a7 right now, will it be outdated in 2years or so?

1 last question
which one perform better in the low light zone? my guess will be sony right?

thanks bro!

if having access to native functions is important, the canon is probably the better choice both for your pockets and peace of mind...the sony setups can be expensive as noted (you will almost certainly have to pay more to get the equivalent sony lenses compared to canon & nikon systems), but also because sony does tend to release cameras more frequently in the alpha series, i think it makes people FEEL as though their current alpha camera is outdated, despite it being exceedingly capable of producing excellent images...

the sony cameras in general are probably better in low light compared to canons,

Can't go wrong with either. Canon for their more affordable native and third party glass. Sony for their versatile lens mount via adapters and smaller size. New versions of cameras get updated all the time, if you feel your current camera is no longer meeting your needs, then you should upgrade. If you plan on going the A7 route, look into the A7ii, definitely has improvements like you IBIS, improved autofocus, improved grip/ergonomics but is around $400-500 more used. But for around $650-750, a used A7 body is one of the best bang for your buck cameras around. Just bought a used A7 and love the camera, use it with my vintage lenses but I still enjoy using my DSLR as well.

everyday stuff from the past week. tokes99 tokes99 that short ira glass vid was dope.

i think i will end up buying, a new 6d + 50mm 1.8stm while saving for a better glass in canon, because like both of you said and astrounout, that canon has more affordable lenses and good amount of used glass market in here compared to sony.

Thank you for everyone suggestion tho! :D:D

School is finally out and I'm getting back into photography. It always gets put by the wayside when the semester picks up.

Here a couple from the past week or two.

Also is there a way to share Lightroom presets? It'd be cool if everyone posted up some of the styles they use when editing.

i have an amateur question. when taking a portrait from close distance with the subject facing directly at the camera, how are you supposed to focus with larger f-stops when in low lit situations to prioritize focus on the eyes? are you supposed to manually focus until both eyes are in focus because each is equidistant from the lens, select the focus point on only one eye, or focus between the eyes? not sure what is the correct approach to this

Focus on one eye. Usually the eye that is closest to you. If both eyes are equally perpendicular to you, go for either.

If it's a portrait shot where I got time to focus and everything, I'd do manual. if not, auto-focus is just fine.

A smoke grenade portrait session I did a little while back for a local aspiring rapper had a couple video crew people and published this BTS video

How do you like that 24-70 :nerd:

Mine should be arriving tomorrow!

Due to the weight, its my favorite lens.

I think its a tiny bit sharper on average than my 70-200

I've done 2 shoots with it now and love it.

I still see myself using primarily 70-200 during ceremonies

Wouldnt be shocked if i did most portraits with 24-70

Trying to find a Yashica T4 for a reasonable price

Been shooting exclusively on film but the camera i have right now is really hit or miss.
What are you shooting on right now?

I've been in such a photography rut lately, I decided to pick up an older film cam to see if it will spark some creativity. There's so much incredible stuff out there at (relatively) dirt cheap prices. Seems like a great time to get into film.
And old Minolta Freedom.

I'm actively looking for an Minolta Freedom escort right now because it's pretty much a clone of the Leica mini but people have been hip to it so the prices are starting to increase.

Right now I'm bidding on a few Yashica Electro 35s because I want to add a Rangerfinder to my collection

if you want to add a rangefinder i highly suggest the olympus 35 sp. so great. my favorite fixed lens rangefinder

Do any of y'all have insurance on your equipment and/or general liability? If so, who are y'all using? Seems like there's a ton of providers out there.

Good question. I'm tying to go through my renters insurance and put a policy on specific equipment. I just have to get my second hand equipment appraised. Covered for pretty much anything except accidental damage all over the world.

I'd consider getting specific photography insurance but I only need it for the gear and not for liability for shoots and all that so it might just be cheaper to piggyback off of the renters insurance.

Definitely a good idea to have insurance. Thank you for bringing this up.

I have an add-on insurance to my home owners through "auto-owners insurance" that costs about $200 per year to cover roughly $15k worth of my equipment against theft and accidental damage. It is really nice to have as often with just my laptop, camera body, and three lenses in my backpack, that is around $8000 to $9000 that could get stolen or damaged rather easily.
