The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

Anyone play Bloodstained yet?
Yes. I've played both Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night and Curse of the Moon. CotM is basically Castlevania III and RotN is Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. CotM is the better game, imo. RotN is cool but I am not a big fan of 2.5D graphics. I also thought that there were some forced unnecessary backtracking as a result of having no idea how to obtain specific items. I don't expect, nor do I want my hand to be held but there is one specific item in the game that you have to obtain in order to progress and I don't know how you're supposed to know without looking it up. My brother had the same problem. Overall I'd say CotM is a solid 8.5, RotN is a 7.

You're lying if you can't tell
I honestly feel like people tend to over hype frame rates... 120 is over kill. 60 isn't even really needed for most game types outside of fighting, racing, FPS and maybe some sports games, but most games do just fine @ 30 fps. I'd rather have true 4k resolution and 30 fps for most games as opposed to 60+ fps at below 4k res.

The difference between 30 and 60 is extremely noticeable to me, 120 isn't needed but 30 is absolutely unacceptable in 2020.

Doom Eternal @ 165 fps is ridiculous.

I didn't say I couldn't tell... I said for many games, the sacrifice you would have to take in resolution and graphics fidelity is not worth it.

How much does refresh rate matter?
Somewhat, you'll still be fine on a 60hz screen, especially if you never upgrade. The moment you try a 120/144hz panel though you'll notice the difference and it'll be an adjustment going back. Now you'll notice things like ghosting, tearing, skipping etc in more than just fps games. I'm not super sensitive to that stuff though so i'm fine though some people are.

What kind of tv do you own if you don't mind me asking?

It's preference, I don't really care about 4K, I want the frames.

A lot because you can run into a bottleneck.

If your monitor has a 60hz refresh rate, the max frames you can get would be 60.

So if a game was 4K/120fps and your monitor is 1440p/60fps, you're getting bottlenecked by your monitor.

A lot of people do this crap w/ PC's where they buy a crazy system and skimp on the monitor,

Fam, I'm going to need you to dumb it down or post a link that dumbs it down for a non tech savvy guy like myself.

Speaking of blur, that game was so much fun. Split/second also. Only good Arcade racing games we got this gen were onrush, wreck fest, crew 2 imo

Anyone picking up Tony Hawk?

Only game I currently have preordered.

Contemplating Dirt 5 and maaaaayybbe Destiny Beyond Light.

I was all the way out, but the amount of content I get for the price of a new game is unmatched (for me).

For me, it depends on the game you're playing, I guess. If it's some 3rd-person adventure game, then resolution would probably matter a bit more, as you're spending more time admiring the visuals, background, etc. 4k, 60fps. But if you're playing a racing game or an FPS, where everything is happening a lot faster and reaction times are important, then I'd much rather see 1080p, but with 120fps, for the response. When you're playing games with fast-moving backgrounds, I don't think screen rez will be as important of a factor.

And that's what Kazunori's going for.
