Thread about Jesus - Questions, Bible Verses and Prayer Requests

How does God explain/justify humans that are born with deformities? And how do I (believer of Science) not take it as were just susceptible to it just as any other species.

This is exactly why I dont subscribe to religion. If there truely was some type of god, why would he/she rely on men to give the "message" and why in an age where man seems to be at the peak of intellectual knowledge do we not get any "solid" messages from these this god?

It doesnt make one bit of sense but the theist will come up with the same exact excuse, no matter what religion.

Are we seriously gonna believe that a book written thousands of years ago, during a time when we barely had a fully understanding of the place we live in, is going to hold all of the answers to our life?

The human mind is truely a strange thing.

Instead of attacking me, contribute with your own scriptures. I respect any form of scripture and religion if it's aimed towards positivity.

If you understood anything from the one I just quoted, you will know why.
Get that hate out of your heart, fam. Life is a wonderful thing.
Hate? I was actually asking a question I feel like a lot of people constantly have. Where did you get hate from? And who is attacking you? It definitely wasn't my post. If you aren't referring to me, my bad.

All religions teach the basic tenants of morality. Be good to each other. Be humble. Do more for others than yourself. All this is great stuff, that I wish more people lived by. So if religion makes you do these things, I applaud it. If you don't need religion to do these things, I applaud it as well. The intricacies of each religion is where they start to differ from each other. However, overall they all basically teach the same things.

But a question I always have, especially for individuals who follow religions that specifically state it's the only way, it's right, others are wrong, why specifically do you follow that one religion. Why not the others? You still didn't answer it.

in a nutshell...WHY ISN'T THERE A UNIVERSAL RELIGION?

I'd like to know as well.

Why would you automatically people assume that people believe other religions are wrong?

Or are these more generalizations?
Just answer the question.

I'd like my previous one answered too.

How did your parents get rich and is it a christian thing to buy jewels and floss?

I'd like to know as well.

Some religions come together either by coincidence or "fact".

Great floods
Great beasts
Looking up = heaven
Down = hell

Interesting stuff. One could argue that religions began to part ways to suit the "needs" of the situation

In my mind that question is simple. In the context of the universe the world is a speck, but in the context of human beings the world is a large place. Different regions of people far apart develop different philosophies on morality/ways of keeping people under control and not reckless. People ponder what all of this is. Boom, you formulate different religions all around the world.

Love this so much lol. Such peace and comfort in so little words.

*warning* this may come off harsh****

Why do we condemn islamic terrorists when we've enslaved and crusaded in the name of GOD for ages?
I'm about to start defending myself again and start asking questions of my own, specifically to those attacking me.

Questions such as assets, education, credit score, physical and mental state/shape.
I'm VERY curious to know these.
Maybe I should PM your parents then? You're in school but have 100k cars and jewels. Let me guess..#BLESSED

Yes, you disregarded my entire post just to throw shots. That reaks of evil intent.
If any one else sees my post at throwing shots or reeking of evil intent please inform me because I can't see how it's anything CLOSE to that. It's a legitimate question.

And fine maybe I assumed too strongly or quickly, but the religion you follow (Christianity/Bible) specifically states anything else is wrong. So if you follow the bible to the t, you are believing other religions are wrong. If not, sorry for assuming that, but I feel like it's a safe assumption.

So if you don't believe other religions are wrong, why not also take part in their customs? Fast for a month, or celebrate a specific holiday. Plus other religions believe in slight differences, such as Hinduism and Buddhism not believing in a heaven and hell. So yes, you probably do think these are wrong. So again I ask why do you specifically believe in this one religion, why not the others? What makes it the supreme religion or the one to believe, when they all in all they believe the same thing.

And my bad @Siete Tres  what was your question?

I refuse to read all 40 pages so if my point has been stated and argued, my bad.

Christianity in principle is a religion and a way of life. As are Judaism and Islam, the other two abrahamic faiths.

The difference between Christianity and Judaism and Islam is that Judaism and Islam have a significant percentage of adherents living in their respective "way of life."

More often than not, Christians do not life in the Christian way of life.  They go through the most superficial motions.  They go to church, take communion, perhaps get christened and baptized.  They may even participate in Church events and upkeep.  But that is the limit.  They care more about the image of being Christian than actually living that life.  Not only that they use Christianity as a socially acceptable cloak for their personal prejudices (and it's fast becoming no longer acceptable).

If you eat shellfish or pork or any "bottomfeeder" animal, you are not living a Christian life.

If you mix fibers within a single garment, you are not living a Christian life.

These are some of the rules that a Christian must follow.  There are plenty more that I can't recall off the top of my head but you get what I'm saying.

Just a former believer's two cents. I'm agnostic if it matters.

Uhm for some reason I wouldn't equate islamic terrorists with he crusades etc. I get what you're saying, but I guess the reason we condemn them is because those Crusades were a long time ago, while this islamic fundamentalism is seen as recent. I guess people see it as we've grown as human beings, we understand the crusades were wrong. We're more advanced as people. Also, as Americans we condemn them because we see it as wrong, but to the other side they may see it as fair/payback. Different perspectives from both sides. Two wrongs don't make a right though so it doesn't matter. Wrong is wrong.

And @WhatCanISay  what does ANY of that have to do with questioning religious books/higher being/purpose of life all that jazz lol? I don't see the relationship at all?

But if you want to know

Assets: None I'm 21 and in school living with my parents. No school now though, it's summer.

Education: Attempting to get into medical school, studying for my MCAT right now actually. Things got in the way and postponed when I should have taken it.

Credit Score: Got none

Physical and Mental State: Mental state is great, I'm a happy go lucky guy. Physical I'm tall and lanky, Kevin Durantesque, jumper not that smooth though

. Putting on weight now, since I can focus on that more with school out of the way, but studying getting in the way.

Now what does any of that have to do with the reasonable questions brought up? I know for sure I haven't attacked anybody.

More generalizations, mockery, attacks and envy.

I'm not surprised, though. This a how things usually go
smokin.gif

I will quote scripture to describe these exact situations, but apparently even that is now offensive to some people in here.

Can you please point to mockery or attack or envy anywhere on this page? Specifically if you want show me if there are any of that in my posts. I don't want to come off that way. And you haven't answered any of my questions.

Or you will also be like him." (Proverbs 26:4)

@ WhatCanISay you're either trolling or you're oblivious to your own ignorance and hypocrisy. In any event you're coming off as extremely immature and obnoxious and you really haven't added anything of value to this thread. Just exit stage left.

Like I said earlier...it's the equivalent of being a "sneaker head"

Christ delivers a message of love. Something this world greatly lacks.

When you have scientific questions, you seek the answers. You have questions about life/God, you don't research that. Are you afraid of the answers you'll find? Do you not see the state of our world? You're satisfied with this?
Christians don't accept the possibility that someone has researched questions about god unless they agree with the Bible, though.

When you trust someone
You abide to their words
And promises

Like atheists do
Scientists.

Our trust in God is
Much greater
He made us and
knows more than we
Think we know

So we lay our trusts
In his hand.
