A VP at Samsung has confirmed the company will be launching its latest smartphones flagship, the Galaxy S5, by April. The executive vice president of mobile business at Samsung - Lee Young Hee - has shed some light on company's future plans about the Galaxy S5 flagship.

Just like its Galaxy S4 predecessor, Samsung is once again targeting March for the official announcement and April for the release date for the Galaxy S5. This means the manufacturer won't be bringing any flagship phones on the upcoming MWC in Barcelona next month.

Since the Galaxy S5 is going against Apple's latest iPhone 5s and in the meantime it should be prepared for the upcoming iPhone 6, Samsung is considering a fingerprint sensor and an iris scanner options. Thus it will not only catchup with the competition but will go way ahead of it. According to Mrs. Hee, the company is exploring its options, so this is no guarantee the iris recognition technology will make it to the Galaxy S5 in time for release.

A brand new design is going to be one of the Galaxy S5 key features. Samsung has acknowledged the users weren't impress at all with the Galaxy S4 reused design and that's why the company has gone "back to the basics" and created its new flagship from scratch. Here is what Lee Young Hee is saying about the new design:
gsmarena_001.jpg

"When we moved to S4 from S3, it’s partly true that consumers couldn’t really feel much difference between the two products from the physical perspective, so the market reaction wasn't as big. For the S5, we will go back to the basics. Mostly, it's about the display and the feel of the cover."

Meanwhile gossip also has it that Samsung is working on a three-sided display for the Galaxy Note 3 successor. The innovative screen will let you see various notifications on the sides of your phone. Samsung has already demonstrated similar technology before, so it won't be a surprise if we actually see it implemented in the next flagship phablet. All this new technology also has a downside however and in this case it is the higher cost. Mrs. Hee confirms: "We are targeting consumers who want more professional use and tend to be willing to pay more for handsets".

Finally, Mrs. Hee unveiled Samsung is working on a second generation wearable device to replace the Galaxy Gear. It will add more functionality (especially health-related) and reduce the bulkiness. It will premiere with the Galaxy S5.

So, with most of these coming straight from Samsung, it's almost certain to come out true. So if you ever worried that Samsung's well of innovation is starting to dry up, you don't have to anymore.

The rep I spoke to tried to offer me 1 gb and unlimited talk

**** Am I gonna do with 1gb?

I added a 2nd line & whoever the rep was at the store made my plan unlimited everything for 2 phones. Lord knows why

I never noticed since I had my sprint line on auto pay. I ended up putting the 2nd line on stand by and the bill went down to 177..which is still a ton.

I don't understand why they can't cut my talk to 450 from unlimited..i NEVER use the phone..i just need text and data.

I'm not a big phone spec guy, so I figured I would ask here. In terms of a device that will be "modern" spec wise for the next two years, which one am I better off with? G2, N5, or Note 3?

Thanks. The Nexus is so cheap compared to the other two phones too. If the battery reviews for it werent all over the place, this would be an easy decision.

Isn't the Moto X supposed to be $350 off contract? :nerd:  I see it at $399 on verizonwireless.com and some absurd price at bestbuy.com....

That was a limited time offer. It's $399 from Motorola off contract. You can also go to motorolatradein.com to trade in a device for a rebate.

Don't listen, ESPECIALLY if you root your phone. I'm using a custom ROM x kernel and easily get 15+ hours with heavy usage (play music, twitter, NT at the same damn time.)

Most battery complaints come from people who don't close out apps, sub their cells for computers/tablets, and generally don't need to have smartphones in the first place (see: Boondocks ***** technology episode.) Nexus 5 battery on stock is meh... With a decent kernel its definitely great tho.

If battery is your biggest concern get da G2.. If you wanna root and rom and do everything grab da nexus. If you want a big *** phone that's powerful and can't rom then da n3 is your lane.

I've had all 3 and still got the G2 .. The nexus is the one I go back to. If battery is your concern don't get an iphone. My i5 battery is dew dew.. Gotta charge this bastard not even halfway through my work day. I like it but battery is poo to the poo.

Like yeah said with kernels like Francos I get around 4-4.5 on screen pretty normally

I got stonewalled today at the store trying to upgrade because I didn't have the billing pin number.

However I peeped the G2 and thought it looked awesome... Just not sure how i feel about the back buttons.

How many phones did you own in 2013 @Carver
 ?

Tbh I do not know  2014 I don't think I'll do the same.. Girl be questioning my purchases lately. All I got her for Christmas was some boots lulz.

Honestly.. That was my biggest concern with it, but you do get used to it. Your fingers just find themselves there when you're using it. The knock knock feature is fantastic but it's not 100% and I found myself having to do it a few times before it turned on.

:pimp:

But I like where the power button is on the n5 I'm not eem worried about it.

Eventually it will give out. Hopefully not while I still own it tho

iPhone battery that bad? I've been jealous of the battery life on iPhones but haven't looked into the new one.

My personal use it gets less time than on my N5. I have to charge my iPhone at work if I use it.. That never been the case with my nexus. If I don't take my iPhone charger it's dead  everyone's use is different so take this how you want.

The standby time is great along with the Nexus but when you start using it surfing the Web :x.. Again personal use everyone is different

I've also had great battery life on my iPhones, however the Androids always seem to have a drop off the longer I've owned the device. I do appreciate an external battery though. Went to ATT today and saw the HTC One and that seems like the perfect size phone for me. Going to wait until May for my upgrade and cop the HTC M8. Probably going to keep my iphone to unlock when I'm out of the country.

I think that's the same thing I'm going to do.

Wait and see what HTC/Sammy/LG have coming up and go from there. The one phone I am slightly excited about is the "M8".

Then wait til September or whenever the new iPhone comes out and see what they're going to do.
