Another trade deadline...another head scratching move by the front office. Andre Miller from 2014 is not the Andre Miller from 2004.

This trade is weak.

I think yaw missin the fact that Andre Miller at 37 is prolly still better than Maynor on HIS BEST day as a TRUE backup PG.

Losing a pick is the downside to this trade, NOT getting Andre Miller.

Personally I think Jan had some potential if given more minutes and with better coaching (one that can develop players, IE NOT Randy W.). So losing him is a downer IMO, another bad facet of this trade.

Frustrating thing about the trade is we had Kendall Marshall.

This.

Guess we'll never get to see the chemistry between Jan and Tomas Satoransky (if he ever comes over) flourish

Doubt Kendall would have had much if any value here. He's playing in a system very conducive to his success right now.
He's averaging 9.8 ast per game on a team with no talent in LA we should have gave him a opportunity.

Look, I'd be the first to celebrate shipping Jan Vesely out of town, but this was the wrong move.

One day Andre Iguodala was in here, posted right in this thread.  I said, "Iggy, you used to hang out with Andre Miller.  Just between me and you, how old is Andre Miller?"  He said, "Hey, Andre Miller's 137 years old.  137 years old."

Not only is he 137 years old.  Not only is he disgruntled, but he's also taking up $5 million next season.  Now, first of all, we could've picked up Aaron Brooks today.  We could've picked up Jarrett Jack.  We could've picked up Steve Blake.  We could've taken Roger Mason, Jr. for free.  We could've signed a free agent and exiled Maynor to the D League.

Why we decided to get into a bidding war with Flip Saunders for 75 year old Andre Miller is beyond explanation.

This is exactly why I wanted to stand pat.  We're now minus a draft pick and we've ADDED $5 million in salary next season for a guy who's on social security - all to clean up ANOTHER Ernie Grunfeld blunder.  This madness must end.

His assist numbers are probably flukey due to the system he's in and the possessions he's using up, but his shooting, court vision and passing is real.

This was Vesely's last year.  We get $350,000 more to spend this year and about $2.5 million LESS this summer.

Which is more significant?

And who cares about signing Beaubois now?  You're committing $5 million a year to Andre Miller.  He'd damn well better be able to nail down that backup point guard spot.  Our other glaring need was in the frontcourt.  Not sure who we'll get to help there for $350,000.  Jason Collins?  Chris Wilcox?  The ghost of Marcus Camby to complete our Nuggets reunion tour?

Meth - you're preaching to the choir.

My opinion is this...personally, I don't mind the team getting Miller. Upgrading the PG spot was a priority since we let AJ Price walk. My issue solely lies with the circumstances of WHY we had to get Miller in the first place.

The underlying issue is the FO's incompetence.

Yep.

Look at it this way.. we shipped out Vesely (Ernie's #6 draft pick) AND Maynor (Ernie's 'prized' FA acquisition last summer) in this trade. How much more obvious could it be that Grunfeld's incompetence has set this franchise back?

I think it's apparent that he won't be retained after this season, regardless of what happens with the team. Grunfeld's track record as GM has primarily consisted of screwing up, and then trying to cover up his mistakes by screwing up more. It's the picture of incompetence.

On a side note, good luck to Jan in the future. He'll most likely be in Europe next year, where he can be a superstar and smash all the skinny pale chicks he wants. Good for him, but he just wasn't an NBA player. Probably the biggest Euro flop since Darko

You can't say **** about Andre Miller after thinking Eric Maynor was going to amount to something

When healthy, Maynor was/is a solid back-up. He hasn't been the same since his knee injury...whether that's physical or mental, who knows.

I'll keep you in mind when I formulate my next opinion about the Wizards dealings.

Your posts are always so insightful and thought provoking.

^I think it was a 2015 second we traded. So we still have our second for this year

Also, strictly from a team perspective this trade will definitely help us. Andre Miller is old, but don't get it twisted he can still play. I remember seeing him do this in last year's playoffs:

I think he will have a positive effect on the team, on and off the court.

Andre will be a nice addition.  He's always been a steady and consistent lead guard.
