He was brutal but in the end he was just like any villain that wanted to kill everything.
In IW he gave an almost convincing speech to Gamora about her planet birthing babies that known nothing about hunger and suffering.
The universe he wants to shred to atoms includes that planet too.
What a chump.
It worked. Remember, they approached IW as Thanos' movie, from his perspective. He was a much more tragic and sympathetic figure. Endgame is really about the Avengers and their perspective. The Thanos we see here is one who realizes that he achieved his goal but these pests are trying to undo everything that he did. In Thanos' mind, he's a hero, he did the universe a favor. So anyone who would go against that is the ultimate *******, from his perspective. He was willing to sacrifice everything to achieve his goal and he wasn't going to let them get in the way. He's not like every villain. We're basically seeing two versions of Thanos, one that succeeded and one who is trying to stop (by any means necessary) the interlopers from undoing that success. And if that means going the extra mile, then so be it.
