Why are there ads on NikeTalk? The answer is inside.

Can't log in at Yuku for some reason. It says the email address is not registered. I'm definately that same email as the one in my NT profile.

Now we're quite a few pages deep regarding this whole banner topic, and I'm going to type this loud and clear for everyone, because I've gotten quite a few PM's on the issue, and it's been brought up in here numerous times ...
BabyJordan0312 (even though this response is not directed ONLY at him):
Well, I am not about to search these pages ... But Are we now endorsing FAKE SHOES on NikeTalk ?
WE DO NOT PICK THE ADS YOU SEE!!!

WE DO NOT ENDORSE FAKES OR VARIANTS!!! We never have, and we NEVER will.

WE (mods/admins) HAVE BEEN GIVEN AN E-MAIL ADDRESS TO CONTACT WHENEVER WE FIND A FAKE WEBSITE IN THE ADS.

WE CHOSE TO HAVE TWO TYPES OF ADS FILTERED OUT OF OUR AD BANNER: 1) ADULT SITES, AND 2) SITES SELLING FAKE/VARIANT PRODUCTS.

BUT ... it's harder to filter out ALL of the fake/variant sites. Adult websites/ads are easy; you just filter out certain words, and bam ... no porn ads. Done.

Sites selling fakes and variants? Not so easy. What words are we going to filter out? Jordan? AF1? Dunk? Bape? Seriously ... how do you filter out ALL of the fake sites? It's more difficult, but we ARE working on it.

That's right; as difficult a task as it is to keep fakes OFF of here, we are doing it, and google ads will keep working with us until there are only AUTHENTIC ads up there.

In the meantime ...

NO ... WE DO NOT ENDORSE/SUPPORT/CONDONE ... WE DO NOT LIKE SELLERS OF FAKES OR VARIANTS!!

Got it?

happy.gif

And if YOU come across a website selling fakes, PM one of us so we can e-mail our contact. I've e-mailed twice in regards to about a half dozen sites, and the response was pretty speedy.

Gee Thanks Ska...

Here is what I get to see & My Point Of Post.

Leading me to this site for " Wholesale Jordans " @ Top Left Corner of Screen.

Which leads me to @ The New NikeTalk

You mentioned A LOT about endorsing fakes, and a LITTLE about the wholesale link. Here are some of YOUR WORDS ... not taken out of context at all:
BabyJordan0312:
Are we now endorsing FAKE SHOES on NikeTalk ?

this is a Sad Day For Niketalk. When our users are now being directed by ads "directly on the Niketalk homepage" as to where to buy Fake Jordans.

But Endorsing " Fake Jordans " & Directing Veiwers to
" Wholesale Jordan Lists " is completely unacceptable in my opinion.
Now, we understand your concern, and it's an absolutely valid one. But to say, "Umm ... I was taken out of context. You responded about NT's endorsement of fakes. I wasn't asking about that," is false, in my opinion. From what I read, you mentioned concern for users being directed to sellers of variants. You also used separate terms for 'endorsing fake Jordans' and 'directing viewers to wholesale Jordan lists', showing that you do, indeed, have a concern about both. And that's fine.

But I don't think anything was taken out of context. I responded to your words, taken in the context they were presented in, and responded to the context they were presented in. If you feel like you meant something else and you didn't explain yourself, that's fine. But what you typed above? That had everything to do with exactly what I responded about- endorsing fakes on NikeTalk.

Counterfeit shoes were addressed specifically in the very first post.

Method Man even went ahead and bolded the text for skimmers:

Quote:

I locked up a half dozen independent threads myself yesterday recanting that NikeTalk has never condoned fake shoes and it never will.

Until the the individual sponsorships are arranged, Google Ads are what's keeping NT afloat. It's been mentioned numerous times in this thread alone that anyone who spots an ad hawking counterfeit merchandise or inappropriate content can and should PM/email the staff, including the staff account ([email protected]) and the ad will be removed.

To the comments regarding the wholesale (and that's what the figure would be) transfer of the Niketalk domain, content, and ownership, the very FIRST thing the buyer would do is plaster the website with advertisements in every fissure and crevasse. We've held that off for 6 1/2 YEARS. The staff hasn't even seen a thin dime yet.

No person or entity to my knowledge has ever made a serious run at NikeTalk. Method Man has stated before that he wouldn't sell NikeTalk for $10,000, much less $100,000. At that price tag, how many individuals do you think would be so generous and beneficent to keep this place running advertisement free? This isn't like making a one time payment to buyout a fully catered hotel room for a lifetime. It's more like a downpayment on a house with 50,000 guests who throw parties every night and 100,000 walk-in visitors who wear down the furniture. The hosting fees alone will quickly turn buyers back.

If you really want to see a sad day on NikeTalk, hand the keys of this place over to the highest bidder and see how well you like the upkeep.

Will any of these ads or links give you spyware once you click on them?

I still haven't seen them yet.

method man, i think you should edit your first post w/ all the info that you and the other mods have told us in the past couple of pgs. cuz some people just read the first couple of replies and continue on asking q's that have already been answered.

it would be a long first reply, but you can just put the questions in bold and the answers in normal font.
Not new, just an alternate sreen name

I understand what you had to do in order to keep this site running. But in the same time, when people who were serious in offering money for the "Niketalk Name/Ownership", Why not at least entertain the offers & Sell it to someone who can afford to keep it running and "ad free".

Do you know why people want to buy Niketalk? To make more $$$. Trust me, it wouldn't be ad free.

Just PM one of the mods and eventually there will be less and less fake sites hopefully eliminating them altogether.

Just make a whole new locked sticky titled "WE DO NOT SUPPORT FAKES - READ HERE" and put in ska's information.

For those of you trying to log into Yuku...make sure that your ezBoard e-mail is exactly the same.

When I originally registered with ezBoard, I was using a different e-mail address than what I'm using now. All you have to do is go to your account settings, do change e-mail, they'll send you a confirmation e-mail and it should work.

If you created an account over there, just delete it, do the account transfer, and everything (post count, avatar, recent posts, etc.) should transfer.

Here's my Yuku profile.

I dont have any probs with it, do what you do to keep this place, but does it save you guys cash to lock posts that ask for help? what gives? yall outlawed that?
don't even remember saying that .....

i say scrap yuku and go with the vbulletin i have a license so if ya'll need free software let me know :D

Our community is so large and influential that we can literally SEE sneaker companies acting on our suggestions or desires. Just look at the Military Blue and Fire Red AJ IV retro. Tell me with a straight face that those have nothing to do with NT. In 99, none of the higher ups at Nike gave a damn about what we thought or even knew we existed. Today, they have no choice BUT to listen if they want to succeed.

Inspirational; good words, Meth.

Edit: gotcha.

Also, blondesoccerplyr, can you help me a bit on loging in to yuku. I am having some techincal difficulties. My AIM is shamknight20. Thanks.

that Yuku board ain't working for me. i deleted my acoount and when i tried logging in under my new e-mail addy, it says:

Sorry, your login attempt failed.
Login Failed: Please re-enter your Email and Password

so, i might just wait til the Fall when everything gets explained on how to transfer the accounts over.

While I suppose it's theoretically possible given Google's relative lack of scrutiny, I have yet to hear of a single instance where a users has encountered spyware or viruses by clicking on any of our ads - and I imagine that thousands of clicks have taken place over the past day and a half.

As a precaution, though, it's always advisable to use some form of virus/malware blocking software when browsing the Internet.

I hope you recounted that NT has never condoned fake shoes rather than recanting our stance.

Hey, your new Yuku profile said it - not me.

In all seriousness, I'm glad you're enjoying Yuku thus far and remember - what you're using now is really just a stripped down beta version of what Yuku will ultimately become. I'll be sure to let you all know about additional features as I learn more about the development of the product.

I had a request: can one of the admins/mods please compile a list of all the websites that have already requested to be removed? Thanks.
Posting a list of fake sites has its merits - it tells people what to watch out for - but it also has the effect of PROMOTING these sites by alerting people to their presence.

If you're asking because you're wondering if a given site has already been reported, just go ahead and report any fake sites that are still being advertised. Yes, that means the staff will receive dozens of redundant requests - but I'd rather deal with that than to continue giving fake site X its moment in the sun long after it's been added to our filter.

Unfortunately, we all need to keep in mind and respect that ezboard's personnel are responsible for thousands of communities and they operate primarily during standard business hours. I may read your PM about a given fake site at 3 am on a Sunday morning, and perhaps I'll send an email to ezboard's head of sales immediately after answering your message. However, the sites in question probably won't be added to the block list until Monday afternoon. I don't have direct access to the block list.

The number of ads for fake sites should dramatically decline next week after our initial reports are processed. Rock Deep has even offered to send us a comprehensive list of fake sites obtained through his research for FakePolice.com. Once we add all of those sites to the list, we should rarely see fake sites popping up and, as we recognize them, we'll actually be helping to FIGHT fakes by identifying these sites as quickly as possible. All we can do is identify them and remove them from our site. It's up to Nike to exercise their legal right to put these places out of business.

I know BabyJ has since apologized for his comments and I certainly don't harbor any negative feelings towards him for his misconceptions, but I do feel it necessary to address this statement in particular.

I don't know where you get your information, but NO ONE has tendered a LEGITIMATE offer to purchase NikeTalk.

Every offer I've ever received has been an absolute insult to our community.

If you're referencing I$$' "cool offer" to "purchase" NikeTalk for the tidy sum of zero dollars and convert it into an enormous billboard for an unscrupulous reseller, I would hardly consider that arrangement reasonable - let alone "ad free."

I'm not sure what offers you THINK people have submitted, but no one has EVER offered to simply pay NikeTalk's bills without expecting to capitalize on its profitability or otherwise exploit this community and its members.

No one has the right to demand that we sell NikeTalk, period.

I have been absolutely privileged to be involved with this community since Nelson C and I conceived the project during the summer of 1999. Since we opened up shop in December of that year, we've been joined by over 30 of the most extraordinarily devoted, selfless, intelligent, talented, and capable individuals one could ever hope to meet - and I wouldn't know a single one of them had it not been for NikeTalk. Any attempt to demean their efforts or integrity is an affront to the entire community and all that it's stood for.

For six and a half years, we have run NikeTalk without advertising and without taking a single PENNY in exchange for tens of thousands of hours of exhausting labor - all while overseeing the community expand from half a dozen members to 50,000 registered members and over 100,000 visitors from over 175 countries around the world. If that isn't a testament to our staff's integrity, commitment, and ability - then I don't know what is.
