***WOMEN'S HOOPS THREAD*** Gold medal game: SUN, 08/11 @ 9:30am EST. Going for 8TH STRAIGHT GOLD!

That play did make the rounds, but not to the same degree as Carter's foul on Clark. It's not fair, but not much has been for Reese. She takes the criticism on the chin better than most would. Jones' hip-check on Reese did look similar to Carter's on Clark. Jones received no backlash because those types of incidents are not all that uncommon in the WNBA.

Reese's plea to look at the tape and get the facts straight fell on mostly deaf ears. Instead, one 37-second sound bite made the rounds from the generous 13-plus minutes that she provided in answering all of the assembled media's questions.

Huh man......

Agree with everything stated here. But Reese understands she just has to deal with it. It's expected. Keep fighting.

The amount of think pieces on Carter’s cheap shot and the ensuing comments by Clark, Carter, TSpoon, Angel, etc are getting out of hand. The W has to be salivating at all of this attention.

Regarding the double standard between fouls Angel has received and the foul by Carter on Clark, the situations and calls on the court were completely different. When AT choke slammed Angel, she was immediately ejected and people (rightly) publicized/shared/wrote about the incident as a non-basketball, dirty play. It took a replay, too, to see how it was dirty. When Jonquel shoved Angel, she was immediately called for a foul but Angel was also facing her and it was part of a pair of consecutive bumps.

Carter’s foul was a completely non-basketball play into CC’s back, making her defenseless at the time. That’s why you see commentary saying “oh CC is flopping, it wasn’t that bad.” And on the court, it was only called as a normal foul - which makes no sense given it was a non-basketball play, just like AT‘s slam on Angel. Everything has really popped off after Carter refused to acknowledge it and then went on to criticize CC on social media.

The situations were different, the players’ reactions were different (AT didn’t run to social to bash Angel after the game), and almost every commentary and comparison refuses to incorporate that nuance.

But again, the league has to be loving becoming such a focal point, even if the heat on many of its players is being taken to new (and frankly, unacceptable in some cases) levels.
