Why do people think Tomlin isn’t a good Xs and Os coach?

There are moments like today, where he failed to make adjustments on the defensive side of the ball. Instead of switching up coverages to include man looks, he just continued calling zones and the Broncos were able to exploit which got them back in the game.

I do think he’s a good X’s and O’s guy but I wouldn’t compare him to the greats in that category.
 
Idk how many coaches around the league would be able to lead a team to an 8-8 season and still command the locker room after losing your starting QB to injury and #1 RB and WR that were both all pros. Not to mention having to find leadership on the defensive side after Shazier’s career ending injury.

What he may lack in X’s and O’s He makes up by being able to lead men.

All of that...but to his benefit, Pittsburgh been known to hire "their guy" and he sticks around for years...ride the wave. So commendable. And the fact they've had What? 3 or 4 coaches only in general post-merger era of the NFL is unbelievable...
