Asian Culture Discussion Thread

No, I feel you. Idk why my fam loved going there lol.

I live near Oakridge, it sucks lol. It really started dying like 10 years ago, shops/food court spots going in and out of rotation.

They were supposed to open a 99 Ranch and Meet Fresh there actually last year, but delayed I think.

Got it, I actually haven't been inside the mall itself in almost a decade, so it makes sense. Back when it opened up, it was the "nice but still affordable" mall for my family, so we used to go there during the weekend for dinner and movies pretty often. During high school my friends and I would go there a lot and just walk around for hours since it was closer to us than Great Mall. Didn't really go to Valley Fair as much because we thought it was too high end for us at the time

Thank you for finding and posting. Been quite busy past days and hadn’t found info. Was notified and now finally caught up here and other new thread.

R.I.P. to the named victims.
The news not about Politics or Police.
About the Victims and Perp. Always.
May the POS eternally suffer and be d*mned.
And it’s a Hate Crime. Period. Point blank.

I’m not surprised that Michael Imperioli (can we safely assume his heritage based on his surname JPS JPS or would I be a “simpleton” in doing so? 😂) took this angle but I’m curious as to at what point are people willing to forgive once a person has demonstrated contriteness ?

Two eerily similar stories of hate mobs gathering to attack Asian-American towns

Chinese Massacre of 1871 - estimated 500 whites gathered in a mob to attack Chinese residents in Los Angelas, CA. One of the largest mass lynchings in history.

Watsonville Riots of 1930- estimated 500 whites gathered in a mob to attack Filipino residents in Watsonville, CA. Filipinos were seen as the third Asiatic Invasion.

folks will conveniently erase these stories and experiences when they say "but asians always wanted to be accepted as white"

I am generally not going to hold someone's stupid social media posts at 17 as how they feel about the world now. Go back a decade and look at your FB posts. I was cringe even saying normal **** like "Knickstape babyyyyy". From what I've read those posts are definitely not an accurate representation of who she is now. That could have been a great learning opportunity for those at the company, but now it's just more ammo to the right who think cancel culture is going to start WW3

I think the problem that’s going unaddressed is that the company knew about her posts prior to hiring her, they had conversations about it, still decided to hire her and are now only disassociating themselves from her basically because the story got out and people not in the hiring department disagreed with

They determined and felt comfortable with the idea that she had been rehabilitated with respect to her comments on social media at 17.

I think at that point the company either has to stand by their decision to hire her or also fire whoever made the final call on actually hiring her in the first place.

Always feels weird when companies only change their stance once the spotlight is bright.

This is the second time babygirl got cancelled. She tried to cancel Barkley some time ago and that backfired on her when they dug into her past posts. This **** is like Double Jeopardy. I think she even shut down her IG. I’m willing to forgive some things but if she’s actively trying to cancel people over things they said and turns out she’s not that squeaky clean herself, I can’t give that a pass. And shoutout to Christufah.

At times like these I kinda wish the Vietnamese and Chinese gangs/crews from the 90s and early 2000s came back to Cali (most of these dudes I grew up with are all family men these days). I remember white dudes complaining about not wanting to get into fights with even the smallest Asians because they’d be afraid of a gang of 30 deep coming through to $&@“ them up in retaliation  :pimp: I don’t support gangs in general but something needs to be done to bring back that “don’t $&@$ with us” mentality. Physically attacking elderly Asians in East San Jose and SF Chinatown would’ve been damn near death sentences back in the day if they found out who you were.

if folks aren't gonna hold individuals within their own communities accountable and call this this **** out then **** it, this might be it. this is how Southeast Asians protected themselves when they were resettled into the US and faced hella racism in the 80s and 90s. just because i wear a buddha pendant on my necklace doesnt mean im conditioned to take **** laying down.

i rarely condone violence but **** if folks are trynna assault my mom, sisters, aunties, what ****in option to do I have? legislation aint done ****. law enforcement aint gonna do ****.

What did she actually say?

She loses her current job and gets public humiliation. I think she paid her dues. What do you guys think ?

Screenshot my guy  or how about just not posting any blatant racist stuff.

lol well yeah "dont be a racist/homophobe/misogynist/etc" goes without saying, but if you said some dumb stuff 10 years ago and it still exists on the interwebz for people to find, that's on you :lol

maybe she changed, maybe she didn’t. But at the time, she was old enough to know that racism is not acceptable, and she needs to face the consequences for going ahead anyway.

look, if someone went back and looked up social media, texts, etc. from back then...I never said anything racist or homophobic but my boys and I had an evil sense of humor. We used to roast each other ruthlessly and hack each other’s pages non stop. It’s a reason why I would never be in politics or be a public figure in general. I’ve deleted everything but my career would be over if anyone screenshotted what we used to say to each other back then

point is, I’ve accepted the consequence for saying that wild $@“& back in the day and she needs to too. Why be outraged over being punished for saying racist $@&@ on a social media platform the entire world can see? It’s putting the blame on the victims and telling the world that it’s ok to be racist while you’re young, since you’ll be rewarded later in life anyway. Nah I’m not cool with that

I definitely see your point. We flamed each other and everyone, but you right - I've never said anything racist, homophobic or classist
